IT’S OK TO SLOW DOWN SOMETIMES

5 September 2016

By Wilbert R. Mutoko

If you are a workaholic like me, you want to keep working and working and working. But there is a danger. If you keep working without relaxing a bit and or having fun; you risk a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual break-down.

I have also realized that sometimes people are too much under pressure because of other people’s success or progress. My friend, it is good to learn from others. But, you should not have sleepless nights because of other people’s progress.

Appreciate the success you have attained so far. You have worked hard to become the brand you are today. Why not appreciate that and grow at your pace?

Yes, you are staying in a one room, while others stay in big houses. You might be earning minimum wage, below-minimum wage, or internship allowance. You may even be unemployed at the moment. Yes, you are still walking or you drive a small car, while others are in big motor vehicles. Yes, your child goes to a public school, while others’ children attend private schools. I know that you lack certain necessities which others have.

But guess what? Just be you. It’s okay to slow down sometimes. It’s okay to look back at your progress and be grateful, rather than complaining and wishing you were like so and so.

It’s okay to slow down sometimes and rest. It’s just okay. Don’t kill yourself with work. Don’t kill yourself looking for a job 24/7. Rest a bit and continue another day. Don’t kill yourself with envy.

It’s just okay to slow down sometimes. Remember I am not saying slow down always. I am saying sometimes.

All the best my friend. I love you as always.

To your success

Interview: Mahalia Buchanan – A Renowned Gospel Artist (South Africa)

23rd August 2016

With Wilbert R. Mutoko

Today at Success in Business & Career (SBC)   we speak to Mahalia Buchanan – a gifted vocalist and worship leader popularly known as a member of Joyous Celebration (South Africa). Mahalia’s musical accomplishments in the gospel industry never cease to testify of the anointing upon her life.

Part One

(SBC) Ms Mahalia Buchanan, welcome and thank you for spending time with us at Success in Business & Career.

(MB) Thank you so much for having me

(SBC) Can you start by giving our followers a brief background of yourself, your experience, education and current career status?

(MB) My name is Mahalia Buchanan, better known from Joyous Celebration, I have been in the music industry since I was 13 years old, started singing with the Legendary Benjamin Dube. So I literally have been in the music industry half of my life.

I am a Business Woman. I run an events company and an Interior and Deco Company too. Currently I am a student with the Design School of Africa where I’m completing an interior and deco course.

(SBC) Wow, that’s so insightful. Before we go far, Mahalia, in your ‘Redeemed to Worship Tour 2016’, you are going to perform here in Botswana on 3rd September 2016 at Rainbow School Hall, Gaborone. The event is dubbed ‘ONE NIGHT IN HIS PRESENCE’ – 7pm till late. What should music lovers expect on that night?

(MB) Firstly, let me express how excited I am about going to Botswana… I have always visited the country and I really love it. Well I also love to travel Thought I should let you know

My fans can expect a Night of Praise and Worship. There will be some amazing surprise songs. If I say much now, I will just give it away to early.

This is a night where we celebrate Jesus and Worship Him for who He is. It is ultimately a Night of Fun. I encourage all people in Botswana to attend and have fun with us in God’s presence.

(SBC) Wow! My family and I cannot wait for 3rd September 2016. How does one get a ticket?

(MB) Tickets are P150 and VIP is P250 here is an alt number to contact +267 74787490 or +267 74170629

(SBC) Now back to you Mahalia, what is your favourite meal and drink ?

(MB) I love South African Cuisine and Lime and Lemonade

(SBC) What is your motto and what drives you?

(MB) My Motto is ‘It’s never too late to start over. Basically don’t give up! If it ever crosses your mind to give up in life. Remember why you started in the first place.’

My family drives me and I want to work so hard to thank my mom for every sacrifice she has made and one day, I would like to surprise her with her dream home.

(SBC) Is there a set of values that you live by such as integrity, teamwork etc?

(MB) Yes I do have. A good name is better than a fruitful career. So in everything you do let it be graceful and speak of integrity.

Also team work makes the dream work. You cannot do everything on your own so having a good team who believes in you and your vision is a blessing from God.

(SBC) Who is your favourite artist of all time?

(MB) That is so unfair. I have so many . Any way, Donnie Mclurkin.

(SBC) What about your wake up time and sleep time ? How many hours do you normally sleep and why?

(MB) I wish I could sleep normal hours. I literally sleep 5 hours a day. I’m always creating and reading – empowering myself; and spending time in God’s Word.

(SBC) Wow! That is so inspiring. Would you like to tell us anything about family and your family plans ?

(MB) I love my family and I am so grateful to God to even have people that just love me unconditionally and always ready to support me. They keep me humble and accountable for my calling.

(SBC) WOW! Mahalia, this is amazing so far. Now, to get where you are there is a story, how did it all start?

(MB) Well, it started way before it actually started. This is the summarized version one day. I will tell you the full story where we just celebrate Mothers and their sacrifice for us.

I started singing at church and when I was 13 I attended Pst. Benjamin’s audition and by the grace of God I made it through. I later joined Joyous Celebration and God has just been good!

(SBC) Mahalia, did you have any life-changing experiences that put you on the path that led you to, what you’re doing today?

(MB) Losing my father at a young age, I had to realise that help is not coming. So, in order to accomplish what God has promised over my life, I needed to arise to the task and be responsible for this calling to hold it as gold in my hands. It has made me very appreciative and always thankful to people who have assisted me to be here. Because I know it has not always been easy. Hence on my Album I have a song called the ‘Thank You Medley’, I thank all the artists that have given me a platform in the music industry.

(SBC) One may want to know when you started singing.

(MB) It all started in Church way back in Sunday School.

(SBC) Mahalia, you have performed on ‘Gospel Truth’ and in programs such as ‘Gospel goes Classical’. You have performed alongside big names in the world such as Donnie McClurkin and others. Can you tell us more about that? Let’s go into some of the work you have done.

(MB) God has been soooo good. I still am in awe all the time. I am going back into presenting again and grateful for another platform to speak about God and His love for us.

Donnie McClurkin is my favourite artist, ever so having to even share the stage, God is so awesome that even this year again on 22 October 2016 – Gospel Goes Classical featuring Donnie McClurkin in a Live Recording.

(SBC) Your face is very familiar on Joyous Celebration. How and when did you join Joyous Celebration Choir? How did this change your career in music?

(MB) I am forever amazed. It was in Joyous 12. We had a rehearsal with Ntokozo Mbambo and JC was rehearsing right after that. I was the only one in that rehearsal who was not a part of JC and I had to catch the taxi by myself. I waited a while and I wanted to see them rehearse. I mean come on this is Joyous we talking about! Turns out that they had a shortage of sopranos that year. I was just in the right place at the right time. That is how I joined JC. Favor of God!

(SBC) Amazing testimonies right there. So who is your producer Ms Buchanan?

(MB) My Producer is Siyanqoba Mthethwa he is the current producer at Joyous Celebration.

(SBC) Where do we see Mahalia Buchanan in the next 5 to 10 years?

(MB) I see my ministry going global. It’s always been a dream of mine. I have the faith that we shall go into the nations and spread this gospel to the entire world. I would also like to empower other musicians and give them a platform to grow.

(SBC) They say ‘iron sharpen iron.’ Did you have any remarkable mentors or advisors who boosted you to where you are today, what you believe in and what you are committed to in your work and life? Share with our followers about it.

(MB) Yes, absolutely that’s true. We need people who will guide us along the right path, and teach us not to make the same mistakes that they might have made.

My Mother is my heroine. Furthermore, my record label owner continues to be a mentor, Mr Doctor Makhubela.

(SBC) Wow Mahalia! That is a mouthful! Where can our followers find your music?

(MB) My music is available online on ITunes and Other Online Music Stores

Or please order my Album Redeemed to Worship in Your Music Stores

(SBC) Which countries have you affected with your work so far? What other countries are in the pipeline?

(MB) London Uk. I have just been there a month back and that was so incredible.

I have also visited Swaziland and it was a Sold-out Show. I will be going to Ghana as well as Lesotho.

(SBC) Let’s talk about Mahalia the lady! Give us a bit of your social and family life.

(MB) as I mentioned above I love my family and I just love for them

(SBC) Mahalia, what impact have your career choices had on your loved ones?

(MB) They have been so supportive and this is something I have been praying for by them so they keep me accountable to stay on track.

(SBC) How would you describe your character?

(MB) I love people.  I love learning new things. I Iove to travel. I can really laugh as well. I love Adventure. Above All I live for God.

(SBC) That’s so good to hear Mahalia. What is the craziest thing you’d like to achieve/attain?

(MB) Craziest would be winning a Grammy Award –  yesss!! I also dream of Chain Stores of my Interior Deco Company locally and internationally.

Part Two

(SBC) What is the worst experience you have gone through in life and in the music industry and what lessons have you drawn from it?

(MB) Losing a friend in the industry made me realise how short life. So we need to make impact and walk in purpose.

(SBC) If you could spend time with someone who has attained the kind of success you are looking to reach, what questions would you ask them?

(MB) I will ask these questions: What are the daily confessions you have made? What has been your hope in this journey? What has kept you on the journey? Why did you not give up?

(SBC) What social cause(s) do you support/advocate for?

(MB) I just started a partnership with a Children’s Home in Swaziland. We believe that as a part of our Social Responsibility we should give back, especially to young people. Someone out there just needs that help to start with. And if you can assist from the resources you might have why not give?

(SBC) Mahalia, if you weren’t doing what you are doing now, what would be your occupation?

(MB) I would be a Marketer. I can really sell and make a product look commercial.

(SBC) Who was your first hero? Are they still your hero today?

(MB) My Grade 2 Teacher Mrs George. Well we have lost touch and I have since found other mentors

(SBC) How many people do you work with?

(MB) The team is as big as 20 people including technical and production team

(SBC) How did you recruit them and what challenges do you face when leading your team?

(MB) The production team is from the record label and these are individuals that totally believe in me. That is such a blessing. The rest is the band. Finding my own was quite a challenge to have people committed to me. But we found the most amazing individuals who I love immensely.

(SBC) How do you solve leadership challenges among your team members?

(MB) I have an MD (Music Director) who constantly keeps things together. And my record label manager is the overseer.

(SBC) Most artists struggle with financing (start-up capital and working capital). How is your experience?

(MB) We had to be smart about it and use our shows to finance other shows. Days are not the same. But, I thank God for keeping us. We would appreciate a Cooperate Sponsor though just saying if anyone out there wishes to sponsor us.

(SBC) How do you network in order to increase your contacts?

(MB) Social Media and a lot of TV appearances

(SBC) Many artists struggle with marketing and selling their music. How do you do it?

(MB) Well it’s been by Word of Mouth and Television. And also air play on radio. These are things I’m really grateful for.

(SBC) Any advice to artists who want to join Joyous Celebration?

(MB) I would advise any artists to join Joyous Celebration. It’s a remarkable platform and it’s a place where you grow and understand even more about Music Business

(SBC) Apart from music, what else does Mahalia do in life?

(MB) Business Woman and Speaker

(SBC) When you are long gone, what would you like to be remembered for?

(MB) The Lady that had Faith to reach higher, dream bigger and create platforms for other artists to become bigger and better in their plight to reach the world.

(SBC) Any special words of encouragement to upcoming artists?

(MB) Keep Empowering yourself. Find your unique sound as that will set you apart.

Have a platform where you grow like serving in your church or singing with local bands.

Get yourself out there and expose your gift to the world. Importantly Don’t Give up

(SBC) Any last words to our followers in general?

(MB) Thank You for praying for me. Thank You for supporting Me. I am looking forward to seeing you at the Show.

Again how does one get a ticket for 3rd September 2016 at Rainbow School Hall, Gaborone – ‘ONE NIGHT IN HIS PRESENCE’?

(MB) Tickets are P150 and VIP is P250 here is an alt number to contact +267 74787490 or +267 74170629. I encourage all people in Botswana to attend and have fun with us in God’s presence.

(SBC) Thank you so much Ms Mahalia Buchanan for taking time off your demanding schedule. We appreciate and value your useful advice. Looking forward to meet you here in Botswana on 3rd September 2016 at Rainbow School Hall, Gaborone – ‘ONE NIGHT IN HIS PRESENCE’ – 7pm till late.

THE POWER OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

18 August 2016

By Wilbert R. Mutoko

Excerpts from the book ‘Think & Gain Financial Freedom’ by Wilbert R. Mutoko

Copyright 2016

You can blame colonization, your parents, siblings or misfortune for your current circumstances. But believe me, it is not going to help you. You need to arise and develop you. You are the difference maker that you have waited for for so long.

Successful people read at least one new financial book once per month. You however, should not just emphasize on reading books on finance alone.

It is not good to concentrate on one area of life because if you neglect learning about health, family, career, business and relationships; you will end up being successful financially but with an ailing body, struggling business, spiritual stagnation, failing at school or sick marriage.

Great people endeavor to develop all-round success. That is financial success, spiritual success, marital success, career success, academic success, health success etc.

By reading books in each of these areas, you end up having a balanced life, and you enjoy true success.

I therefore would like to encourage you to read at least one book per week. If you do not like reading, you can buy audio books to boost your knowledge and skills.

So if you really want this week to be better than last week, learn what you didn’t know last week.

Similarly if you want this month or year to be more successful than last month or year, you must learn what you did not know then.

Such learning usually comes through personal development – reading books and watching good teaching videos or listening to audio cds.

The difference between successful people and others is what they know and what they do with what they know.

what happens when you follow your passion

This is what happens when you follow your passion, work hard on your craft and refuse to give up. Usain Bolt signs a life-time deal with Nike. He is reputed to be the fastest man in the world. He says “athletics is my life. I do it daily.” He has seen it all – defeats, injuries, mockeries; but he refused to budge.

How much do you work on your craft? How much do you keep going when the future looks dark?

Being a champion is not by luck. You have to work at it like Usain Bolt.

Usain Bolt just signed the biggest endorsement deal in Nike history
