Charles was born in Chicago, grew up in the Chicago suburb of Berwyn, and attended Morton East High, where his English teachers set him on the right path for writing on his own. He received an MS from the University of Illinois and subsequently spent his professional life conducting insurance investigations. Only with the coming of the digital age has he had the time and tools to publish his own works. His private detective series set in Chicago is on hiatus, and his first classic genre science fiction novel has just been published.
