THE LITTLE THINGS YOU DO

Screen Shot 2013-01-31 at 12.33.10 PM

Most readers today don’t realize just how important a review, rating, or even a download can be to an Indie Author like myself. It literally can be the difference between the next Best Selling Author or an author disappearing, behind a mountain of his, or her, rejected stories forever.

There are a handful of people determining who will have stories published and who won’t, but with self-publishing here, in a very big way I might add, doors are opening up that were once closed. You, the reader, now have options! The catch 22 is that you’ll never see what you want unless you ask. You do that by rewarding the authors you love!

It begins with something as simple as a download. “LIKE” Author marketing pages. Leave Amazon Book “REVIEWS”. Give “STAR RATINGS” for the Books. Leave one review for each book you read, and do this for each marketing company that sells the books. All these quick things you can do will push the Author ahead of his/her competition, up the mountain, and out of the slush pile of non-writers who also self-publish.

Trust me, I’m not bashing. There are people who think they can write but they really can’t. Everyone can do at  least one thing well, but sometimes they haven’t figured out what that one thing really is. You can find these people just about anywhere. It’s not being cruel, it’s called being truthful. What do you say when you think the writing wasn’t so great? Maybe you thought it was only just ‘ok’, or maybe you don’t think you want to read this author again? Even if it seems most people agree with you, remember it’s still only your opinion, so out of moral respect, if you can’t say anything nice, it’s best to not to say anything at all. My feeling is God bless each one of these souls for putting themselves out there. I say they should go for it. That’s what hope and dreams are supposed to be about. We all must try and we all will fall. Our work will speak for itself and if we want something badly enough then we’ll learn and someday leave a beautiful mark. That’s where you, the readers, come in.

You have a unique opportunity to make dreams come true like never before. You can determine so much by doing so little. Yes, it’s the little things that mean so much. So please, no matter who are, where you come from, or what you may think of my writing, show your support for authors everywhere, famous or just getting started. They are giving you their heart and soul because writing is what they love to do. Won’t you help them make their dream become a permanent reality? Give them a little of yourself and see the magic you can do. Thank you so much.

Last night, while taking a shower, two pivotal moments...

waterproof-notepad-for-writing-down-ideas-while-in-the-shower-video-home-design

Last night, while taking a shower, two pivotal moments came to me for my story. Fearing I’d lose it all, I called it out to my husband, asking him to write it down. Today I have to rewrite it, transforming notes into the story that’s meant to be told. Thank God for husband’s who care enough to take dictation from a screaming wet wife! I love my man. The last thing I told him, after I thanked him, “Oh wow, these ideas– I need to take more showers! That didn’t sound right, did it?”

Well, I have no excuses. Simply put, my writing for the Dark Seeds series better come out clean and smelling oh so sweet after this. This is but one example of a ‘write moment’, when everything in the world stops long enough for the writer to see a small bit of his, or her, story with perfect clarity. Only problem is that these moments never happen at the perfect time in reality. Creativity for writers is more than just finding ideas, it’s about finding ways to keep those ideas when they are found, or quickly capturing them when they mysteriously find us.

NUCLEAR CONUNDRUM
For many of my friends you will underst...

NUCLEAR CONUNDRUM

For many of my friends you will understand what I’m about to say. I am frustrated. The kitchen is a disaster. It looks like a nuclear waste site and smells like one too. If I was into that portion of my book then I might have been far more jovial about the concept of entering the danger zone and cleaning the mess. It could provide some great sensory research material to draw from but I’m not writing that portion of the series right now. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t want to clean, it’s just that I’d rather be writing. See the difference?

Someday, when my dreams have become a reality, when my books are best selling novels and I can afford to pay someone to clean for me, I still could never have someone else washing my pots, pans, and dishes for me and yet, I know I’d rather be writing than cleaning as always.

What a conundrum! Alas, today this post began on Facebook of all places! So did it even really count as a viable excuse because I am indeed writing? I think not. I’m going to have to leave my computer, tackle the kitchen fully armed in a biohazard suit just so I can stop feeling guilty, and when I return… no, IF I return, then I’ll really do some hardcore writing.

I write this post with heartfelt sympathy to writers everywhere. I understand and my heart is right there with you. I feel your pain. I really do.

DEDICATION, TRIBUTE, & REMEMBRANCE: Book three, 13 Deg...

7th Annual Critics Choice Awards

DEDICATION, TRIBUTE, & REMEMBRANCE: Book three, 13 Degrees Below Zero, introduces my all around good guy, secret operative and muscle man to the President of Newmerica, Solomon. He could be the late Michael Duncan Clarke’s twin brother, God rest his soul; but I have sculpted this character from more than this actor’s impressive looks, his heart and mannerisms echo that of a dear friend to our family, a soldier who served our country and more than earned his purple heart. It is with great honor and pride that I give tribute and remembrance to these two men I’ve poured into my one character. I’ve only had the privilege to come to know one but I respect them both so much. God bless them both; they will touch lives now and forever.

THE RINGBINDER

16_manwithsmerk

Please everyone, calm down. If we are going to end this terror, then we must be organized, we must understand what we are dealing with. He is so much more than your legends have painted. They call him Ringbinder, the necromancer in the mountain. He’s been trying to perfect the One Ring to rule us all; it has been his life, his obsession. I believe he’s succeeded, we would not be here otherwise. Your elders knew him when he was a happy child of the woods, a time before your miners strung up his mother and father for witchcraft. He is more creature now than human, intent on seeking revenge for the crimes of our ancestors. He crawls about on all fours with barely a piece of cloth to cover his coal stained body. Only his front teeth are left; he ripped the others out with his bare hands and extracted the silver fillings inside. We were fools to think he’d never come down from his cave. We turned a blind eye and now our children are missing. There was once a time when your blades would have worked, but it’s too late now; you can not pierce that which has no soul. He needs a willing sacrifice, warm blood to feed his appetite, and you were quick to take the bait. He would never harm your little ones, they are a reminder of the joy he once knew, but every moment we sit and argue is another day his thirst grows. If you want to see your children alive again, then drop your swords and take up the torch. I will guide you up the mountain. We must fight fire with fire. Who among you will join me this night to destroy this evil forever? Who is with me?

13 DEGREES TIDBIT: Three Seconds

Screen Shot 2012-11-04 at 7.30.21 PM

Chapter Excerpt: 13 Degrees Below Zero

I heard a trumpet and felt its ethereal waves tremble within my soul. There was a blinding flash and something came out of the light towards me.

“Be not afraid,” she said, “I mean you no harm.”

The something turned out to be a someone and her voice was like a lulling, symphonic melody. Long, white robes billowed up and about her as she drew close. She had a long, silver horn by her side. It’s reflective surface flickered with brilliance. She floated down until she stood a breath away. Her hair was thick and black like mine, but it was long and beautiful. Her eyes were more like lanterns lifted up in the dark of night for weary travelers. I longed for her outstretched wings to envelope me.

“Who are you?” I whispered.

“I am the Archangel Gabrielle.” She spoke without speaking and yet I heard with my ears.

I couldn’t move. “What do you want with me?” I feared what her answer might be.
