RAZE: Pursuit (What a Tease!)
"Pursuit" is the first of two web comics that will introduce readers to the brink-of-oblivion world of RAZE, the dark fantasy series of prose novellas and graphic novels written by Shawn Lee and myself. Jeff Wamester is handling the art chores on this story, and it's looking pretty slick. Last night, Evileye Books gave me the all-clear to post a quick look at the first page of Jeff's pencils for the story … just to whet your appetite until the entire tale is published online soon.
So here you ...

Crocogator!
When I was a kid (Yeah, I know. A lot of my stories begin that way. What of it?) my dad told me stories of the meanest creature that ever walked the earth.
"The crocogator," he said, "is the most dangerous beast to ever slither, fly, or crawl. It has the head of a crocodile on one end, the head of an alligator on the other, and …"
(Wait for it …)
"… it's got no butt-hole to speak of, so it's always constipated! Therefore, it's the most ill-tempered critter in all the world!"
That's my dad for...

More Epic Than Epic!
Proving that a talented artist can take pure dreck and turn it into gold, my pal and amazing artist Francesco Francavilla took my Epic Snake Oracle (posted earlier today) and re-imagined him here!
Art Gallery – Epic, man! Epic!
It's been awhile since I posted any of the glorious artwork of my youth. This piece is from around 1982, I'd guess. At some point, I decided to build worlds around some of my artwork. I did so with the House of Mysterious Secrets. But with this series (I've found five pieces of art) I decided to go so far as to title the images. These were fantasy pieces, and only one word could convey the epic nature of the adventures to be had in this world–EPIC (written in some runic-looking lettering, no ...

2010: Year of the Writer
Like many writers, I've been thinking a lot about what I want to accomplish in the new year (fellow writers Maurice Broaddus and Mike Oliveri have recently posted their goals). I have some fairly lofty ambitions for 2010 and, since it's always best to put your goals out there for others to see, I'm listing mine here in hopes that you'll help keep me honest. You'll notice a lot more prose in the mix this year. I stopped writing prose a while back, but I've missed it too much.

CultureGeek's Reader's Choice Poll
For CultureGeek's Readers' Choice Awards, regular readers nominated the books, movies, TV shows and comics they most enjoyed in the 2000s. The Damned was nominated for Best Comic, and Like a Chinese Tattoo (featuring 3 of my stories) was nominated for Best Collection or Anthology. The poll is pretty interesting, and you can vote for your favorites here.

Closing the Books on 2009
No long post tonight. There are celebrations to be had, and I don't want to keep you from them.
A lot's changed for me in the last 10 years. Most importantly, I became a husband and a father. I'm thankful every day for the support of my wife, Cindy, and for my new little buddy, Jackson. I can't explain to them how much joy they bring me.
Did I accomplish what I set out to accomplish ten years ago? Not at all. Not by a long mile. I missed the mark on a few things. I got lazy in the pursuit of...
