Happy Birthday, Jackson!
(Super-Cool Birthday Greeting by Francesco Francavilla)
In September, Cindy and I traveled to China to meet our son, Roman Jackson Bunn. Time has really flown since we brought the little man home. His contributions to our family have definitely called for some adjustments (there are some nights when Cindy doesn't get a wink of solid sleep, and my writing time took some big hits until I figured out a new schedule). But I couldn't have asked for a cooler, sweeter, take-no-static kind of kid...

Countless Haints
A couple of years ago, I got together with a number of other writers to create the shared world of Ominous Landing. The project started out strong, but it ended up failing for any number of reasons. The serialized novel I started, though, is something that's stuck with me ever since. A few days ago, I started noodling the idea of starting a serialized novel on this site. Since I still find myself returning again and again to the story of Countless Haints, a tale of witchcraft, destiny, and...

Two Cullens? What Can It Mean?
When people ask me if westerns are a big influence on my work, I'm just going to point them to this picture.
I found this while doing a little housecleaning in preparation for my son's upcoming second birthday party (for those of you who want to send gifts, he likes pre-orders of The Sixth Gun). Back in 1975 (when I believe this was taken), I thought it was the ultimate camera trick to do a dual-image like this.
Also, this proves that not only do good guys wear black, they also wear Levi's...

A Good Day to Die (Some of My Favorite Death Scenes)
"'Tis not so deep as a well, nor so wide as a church-door; but 'tis enough,'twill serve."
Not to be morbid, but I've been thinking about death a lot lately.
Not my own mortality, mind you, but death just the same. You see, whenever I start a new project, especially one with a lot of cool characters (like The Sixth Gun), I start thinking about how I might kill those characters off if and when the time comes. I've always been a fan of a really good death scene. I'm not talking about how well...

Pop! Goes My Heart … and My Pride
You know how you sometimes get a song stuck in your head? Well, today I had this song (from the movie Music and Lyrics) stuck on repeat in my skull.
Not just the song … I had the dance stuck in my head. And as I went from the 2nd floor (where the snack machine is) to the fifth floor (where my office is), the elevator became my own personal dance floor, complete with my badly-crooned lyrics and a bag of chips as a tambourine.
So … of course a group of men and women in business suits decided to ...
A Report from the Road: FCBD 2010
This past weekend, Brian and I journeyed to Texas to sign copies of the first issue of the Free Comic Book Day edition of The Sixth Gun #1. What an awesome trip!
Once … years ago … my driver's ed instructor made me drive him to Berkeley Mall so he could get himself a slice of Luca's Pizza. I remember him gobbling down this greasy, drippy slice while I drove in the wrong lane and nearly sideswiped cars. Once he was done, he licked his pudgy fingers and said, "The only thing I didn't like about ...
