The Horror Fiction Review Gives Heaveworld 5 Stars

Cullen Bunn's Heaveworld was just released by those crazy fools at Skullvines Press, and The Horror Fiction Review has posted their thoughts on the collection. Here's a taste:

" … Cullen Bunn is one hell of a story teller. There's also a very funny foreword by Jeff Strand and some cool artwork by Mark McLaughlin. This is a must read…I loved it. Do not read the four gross-out stories on anything but an empty stomach—they're that bad, but funny as hell. GREAT BALLS OF IRE is also gross, but I...

The Forbidden Dance

Stephen King once said, "I recognize terror as the finest emotion and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I'll go for the gross-out. I'm not proud."

Well, if Brian Keene and I can't give you the shivers with our writing, we're not above resorting to dirty tricks, as evidenced by this photo from VisionCon.

Admit it. You're scared now … and yet maybe a little titillated as well? Hmmm?

Now, if...

302 on 850

Over the weekend, I attended VisionCon, and I got the chance to hang out with Mike Oliveri, Brian Keene, Wrath James White, Mark McLaughlin, Russell Dickerson, John Horner, Jerrod Balzer , S. D. Hintz, Bryan Ward, Roy C. Booth, Cynthia Booth, and a bunch of other awesomely cool folks.

One day at lunch, Wrath, Brian, Mike, and I got to talking about work schedules. I've been relatively productive of late, but I'm always interested in new approaches to tackling projects. Wrath made a great...

VisionCon 2010

I'm leaving in the morning for VisionCon in Springfield, Missouri. It sounds like it's gonna be a fine time. I'm bringing loads of funnybooks, and my gross-out collection should be making its debut at the show. Of course, I'll be spending a good deal of time writing, too. I've set myself a personal goal of having the next prose story in The Sixth Gun universe finished before the weekend is out. I'll post some pictures as time permits, and keep an eye on my twitter account for fairly regular u...

RAZE: Pursuit (Page Two Sneak Peek)

Here's another sneak peek at the upcoming RAZE webcomic, Pursuit, from Evileye Books. The drool-worthy pencils are by Jeff Wamester. Here we have our first look at our "heroes," Kast and Siris. I'm thrilled with Jeff's dead-on interpretation of the characters–sexy and dangerous, as they should be. In the words of my co-writer, Shawn Lee, "even the teeth on the bear trap are strangely appealing." Considering the tone of the series, that just feels right.

The Writer in Winter (A Schematic)

My office is in the basement. It's a nice place, full of books and comfortable chairs and plants and (usually) a sleeping dog keeping me company. Much like the Priests of the Temple of Syrinx, I keep my great computer in this hallowed hall. I do most of my writing there or, as I often say, it's where I do most of my damage. Only one problem … It's frigidly cold down there this time of year. I run a little space heater in the room, of course, but on the coldest of nights, it's a little like...

The Necronomicon is Good For You

On a semi-regular basis, I run into someone who believes The Necrnomicon (and Sutter Kain and the Book of Countless Sorrows) is real instead of fiction. It happened weekly when I worked at the book store. Some kid would trundle into the shop and tell me he was looking for a copy of the dreaded tome. When I handed the customer the 1980 Avon edition (the little black paperback we all carried around in middle school), he would say something along the lines of, "No … I mean the real one...
