Author Dakota Trace pops in for 1NS 200th Book Celebration!

Who-hoo! For those of you who might be hiding under a rock and haven’t heard, Decadent Publishing’s 1 Night Stand Series is turning 200 this month. It’s hard to believe that it started out as the brain child of Kate Richards and Valerie Mann. Intended to be only a three book project it’s grown by leaps and bounds.

I remember the first time I submitted to this wonderful line. I was worried I’d be able to write a short. Up til that time most everything I’d written had been 40K+. So it made the crafting of Blind Need a challenge. As the eighty-third book in the series, I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular out of it. I spent the day of release on pins and needles, constantly checking back to see how it was doing. I was hoping that my little contemporary tale about a blind heiress and her scarred smoke-jumper would find a home in peoples’ hearts. Especially after I’d read several of the other contributions beforehand. I had quite the shoes to fill. Imagine my surprise when it went to the best sellers list on ARe. Then rose slowly on the Amazon charts as well as on Bookstrand. I was totally floored when I got my first royalty check. It seemed Madame Eve’s magic had rubbed off on me as well as it had on the previous contributors. It was then and there, I vowed to write another 1NS book.

And then life got the best of me. Deadlines on already committed to projects took up all my free time and then I got elected to Music Booster Board as their Concession chairperson during the 2012-13 school year. Okay…workload now tripled as I balanced my duties as a Band Mom, a writer and coordinator of concessions. So over a year had passed, before I was finally able to squeeze in time to revisit Madame Eve’s world. Much had changed for me as an author. As a result my second contribution was vastly different from the sweetly sexy Blind Need. In Wyk’s Surrender, my muse and I did a complete three-sixty. It was still a contemporary book, but this time instead of two strangers meeting via Madame Eve’s assistance, I ended up with a pair of souls who wanted each other but needed a shove from the spunky Madame to believe that they could make it work.

Wyk and Venus were quite the challenge to write as not only were they overcoming the stigma of workplace romance, (Venus is Wyk’s Executive Assistant) I also had a complete role reversal as Venus outside of work is no wallflower. She’s a balls to the wall, in your face Domme who loves to dominate men and push them until they beg. As far as I am aware, there is only one other 1NS book that happens to fall into the FemDom realm. (Ann Mayburn’s Bound for Pleasure) I love being one of the few…especially when I’m in such great company! Honestly however there could be more. But with 200 books, I wasn’t going to try to find out if there were more.

With that being said, let’s move onto the fun part of this stop. I’m going to be giving away 2 sets of signed Rack Cards from Wyk’s Surrender to 2 lucky commenters. It’s easy. Just comment below and tell me genre of 1NS you love the best. (My personal fave? Well it’s a toss-up between the m/m ones and the BDSM ones….imagine that!) Make sure when you answer that you leave an email I can reach you at if you win. I will be announcing winners at the end of the week.

Also don’t forget to enter the grand prize contest Decadent has going on. Some pretty awesome prizes they are giving away. It’s pretty easy. Just follow the directions in the rafflecopter form.
Thanks for having me today Ellie!

Blurb for Wyk’s Surrender
She wants to mark him and make him hers…

Mistress “V” lusts after her boss. She wants him at her mercy, begging for her touch, but he only knows her as his very capable assistant Venus. When an off-hand comment dashes her hopes, the sexy domme turns to Madame Eve at 1Night Stand for help…

He isn’t sure he can handle the dark pleasure she promises…

Living up to his father’s expectations has driven Wyk Havas to the edge. His curvaceous assistant Venus wants to push him past those limits, and he’s damn near attracted enough to try. But Venus’s preference for men to submit to her threw him for a loop. Can a date from 1Night Stand show him if he’s able to submit to a woman?

Can Wyk truly surrender to Mistress V’s pleasure or were they doomed from the start?

Video gamer Krys Dulay stops in with a treat!!

It's OCTOBER!You know what this means?  A Hocus Pocus Marathon!
Okay, and a time to break out my list of notable horror games. :)As a Survival Horror fan, I find that any time is a good time to play the scariest of the scary when it comes to gaming, though October seems toenhance the spirit.  Some games, however, I have not been able to play so I have experienced them in video walkthrough format.  It is just as immersive, believe me.  If you can't take my word for it, watch Youtubers play any of the horror games and you will discover that experiencing it second hand is just as terrifying!
Here is my list of SURVIVAL-HORROR FAVORITES!
Dead SpaceWhere no one can hear you scream.  Seriously.  Dead Space redefined the horror genre when it came out in 2008.  The lone engineer, Isaac Clarke, must defend himself while venturing through the ship the USG Ishimura.  Clarke goes through the ship only to find that he is not alone, and creates powerful weaponry to defeat the creatures called the "Necromorphs".  I, the Unfinished Gamer, have yet to finish Dead Space myself, but have seen others in action.  Why it hasn't been completed? It is extremely creepy and highly recommended for those seeking a good thrill.
Alone in the DarkGoing back in time a bit, we remember a hit title Alone in the Dark.  Graphics may not have been as spectacular as they are for the current generation of consoles or computers, but back then 4 floppy disks is what it took to tell such a chilling story. (Pause for gasps).  Though the movie adaptation was forgettable and the recent reboot did not reach the expectations of awaiting fans, Alone in the Dark was inspired by the fathers of horror, Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft.  What more can you ask for?
OutlastThis is one title I have yet to play as it is not out for console play, but I watched Pewdiepie play through this title.  There are some pretty horrifying moments! As an investigative reporter, you must trudge through the depths of an asylum, but you find out quickly that you are not alone… disfigured prisoners, mysterious people help you along the way through the darkness, as the night-vision on your camera tends to drain the battery pretty rapidly.  Gory scenes like losing body parts, chunks of human remains and graphic nudity are present.  As you run from the beasts, hide in lockers and push barriers over to block your path, and always remember: follow the blood.
Siren: Blood Curse Another game on the UG's list is Siren: Blood Curse.  The successor to Siren (PS2), this downloadable nightmare is quite frightening.  There are several characters to take over, and all of them have the ability to "sight-jack", or take over the vision of another living being within range. Sight-jacking allows you to find a path through the demons, to find your way out of danger. Characters, both big and small, are granted this ability and put use to it here to survive.
The Last of UsYou may be wondering why this title is on the list.  To be honest, it isn't quite a survival horror game when you think of the demons or spookiness of the storytelling.  No, The Last of Us isn't one of those types.  It is however, a gritty tale of post-outbreak America, dealing with a fungal contagion of the cordyceps as it takes over human beings and turns them into rabid creatures.  The survival horror aspect of this game is experiencing what mankind may be like when it is every man for himself.  The storytelling is amazing, the acting is fantastic and the extremes the characters are put through...are enough to make you cringe.
Alan WakeTwisted. Haunting. Sam Lake does it again.  The penman behind the noir saga Max Payne, Lake creates a story about a writer who has a severe case of writer's block.  His wife takes him to this coastal town in Northwest USA to clear his mind, but after her disappearance, he dives straight into the rabbithole.  With a twist of Scandinavian lore, Alan Wake's journey to restore his mind finds himself opening up what seems to be Pandora's box, figuratively speaking.  If you can, find the Alan Wake live-action shorts they filmed as well.
The Walking Dead: Season OneGame of the Year, indeed.  Last year, TellTale games had us at the edge of our seats with TWD: Season One, and we are now drooling for more after the bridge series "400 Days" was released.  This point-and-click adventure is definitely no new and innovative way of telling a story, but it's the way that TellTale designed the game, the caliber of the acting and the top-notch writing that really set this game high above the rest.  The Walking Dead game goes along side the TV series, interlocking events and bringing in familiar faces as well.  This is a spectacular series that you do not want to miss.
Resident EvilForget what you've seen in the movies, please.  Resident Evil, from start to finish (or rather, the latest game in the series, RE6), is a pretty darn good series.  In my opinion, I do feel as if it loses touch with the Survival Horror aspect of it along the way, but Resident Evil still has some good scare tactic to it.  I rented Resident Evil 2 on a whim and fell in love with the series ever since. I even played back into part 1 and its remake, to complete the story.  Who doesn't love a good zombie thriller? The T-Virus will never die...or so it seems.

Fatal FrameI used to think that I had to visit Japan...until I played these games. (Srsly.) Armed only with a camera, you must face the lingering spirits and exorcise them.  These games have some of the most terrifying moments I have ever experienced.  The controller vibrates when you are near a ghost, and the light on your camera Obscura will brighten or dim depending on your distance and the color of the light will tell you if it is a docile or hostile ghost.  The continuity is also there; you will hear recognizable names and events throughout the series as well. Do yourself a favor.  Find this game, and play it.
Silent HillAnd finally, my favorite.  Much like Resident Evil, I feel that Silent Hill has worn down over time.  Though the movies are a completely different entity (even though they take the names and ever loosely, the story of the games themselves), I must say that playing through Silent Hill 1-4 and Homecoming were some of the scariest games I have ever played.  The puzzles in the game made you really sit there and decipher the codes.  The bosses were sometimes impossible! (Looking at you, Pyramid Head)  The chilling part was almost always the resolution.  When all was said and done, when you have come down from having a near-heart-attack, you realize what this character has been through and what it all means and you exhale.  It's over.  However, the hunger for more lingers.  You want to keep scaring yourself because these games are so well-done.  Silent Hill Downpour and Shattered Memories deserve a play through as well, though you will see a definite change in gameplay and controls.  Still, it is at the top of my list of recommendations for scariest games. So check it out!
I know that there are tons of other games out there that were not mentioned, but it's not to say that I don't think they are "worthy" because they probably are.  Horror games come in all sorts of styles, so just find whatever scares your pants off and go with it!
The list above was in no particular order. If you have one to suggest, feel free to leave it in the comments below!

Author Toy Davis brings us a treat!

Ball of the Damned

Nicky couldn’t believe when Amy called to invite her to a ball. She had always wanted to go to a masquerade, but Halloween was months away. She dressed in a white grown with pink diamonds laced through the bodice. She pinned her light pink hair up in a half bun, allowing her curls to cascade down her back. She clipped three rose on top of the bun; one red and two light blue.

She outlined her baby blue eyes with black liner. The dark mascara she applied made her lashes appear long and thick. Her lipstick was soft pink. Smiling at her reflection, she slipped her diamond earrings on. On the top of her earlobe she wore a silver loop. Her nails were well manicured and she wore two silver rings. To finish the fantasy look she wore strapped heels covered with diamonds. She was determined to outshine all the other women that were there tonight.

Her friends Amy and Jill were dressed in nice gowns, but they were nothing compared to Nicky’s. She rode in the backseat as they headed to the masquerade ball that was in the outskirts of town. “Wow,” Nicky said when they rounded a bend and a castle came into view.

“Beautiful,” Jill mumbled.
It was a castle made with gray stone. It had a double door and a splendid garden. Amy pulled into the driveway and stopped at the front doors. Nicky smiled as a man opened her door to help her out. “I can’t believe this,” she told her friends.

Amy giggled. “I told you tonight would be great.”

The men in fancy suits helped them out of the car before the valay slipped into the driver’s seat to park it. “I didn’t know there was a castle out here,” she said over her shoulder.

The handsome man on her arm smiled. “It’s the best kept secret in Scottsdale,” he assured her.

“Yes it is,” Amy laughed. “I’m glad we were included in it.”

The men stopped at the door as they allowed the women to enter the house. Inside the foyer opened up to a ballroom. The host, Seth, had decorated it in white. The floor had a blue shimmer clothe on it. It was meant to make you feel as if you were walking on water. There were white trees scattered throughout the room. The ceiling shimmered with blue jewels. Mirrors were placed on the walls so the guests could watch themselves dance if they wanted to. There was also a small indoor waterfall that cascaded down rocks into a pool, and it was filtered back into the waterfall.

“It’s beautiful here,” Nicky whispered, completely impressed with this place.

“Thank you,” Seth said as he appeared beside them. He bowed has he took her hand. “You are beautiful as well my dear.”

“Seth,” Amy said as she stole his attention.

He was a handsome man with dark hair, dark eyes and strong features. His traitor suit fit his body perfectly.
“Amy,” he purred. “I’m pleased that you make it.”

“Of could I could make it.” She playfully rolled her eyes. “I never miss one of your events.”

A serving man standing next to Seth, cleared his throat. Seth shot him a look as his curved brows slid into his brow. “Oh yes,” he said as he remembered why he was standing with them. He toke a frosty mug from him. He smiled at the ladies; his dimples caused Nicky’s heart to fluttered. He was a handsome devil indeed. “If you are to stay and partake in the excitement here you must drink from the mug of temptation.” He held it out to them. “It represents your willingness to be free of the chains outside of these walls.” His smile turned savage. “You must drink it of your free will so we know you will enjoy and participate in the fun and scandalous activities we have planned for tonight.”

“We?” Nicky raised a brow. “I see only one of you,” she teased.

“Me too,” Jill added. Jill was a quiet girl with blond curly hair, a pug nose, and was slightly overweight.

“I mean, we, as in all of my other guests here tonight.” He nodded to the people standing and dancing behind them.

She glanced at them. The dark hunger she saw in some of their eyes made her uncomfortable. She forced a smile as she pulled her shoulders back, convincing herself she was just imagining things.

Amy took the mug first. “I drink this of my own first will,” she repeated what Seth told her to say. She closed her eyes as she took a long drink. The hair on the back of Nicky’s neck stood on end, this wasn’t right. Amy handed the mug to Jill.

Jill followed the ritual that Amy had started, and then she passed it to Nicky. “You’re turn,” Seth told her.
She eyed the golden liquid with distrust. “What is it?”

“The drink we all must drink when we enter here.”

“That explains nothing.”

He laughed, gently. “Say the words and drink it,” he replied, offering no further explanation.

“Come on,” Jill whined. “I want to dance already.”

Nicky sighed before she said the words. “I drink this of my own free will.” She felt silly but completed the ritual. The golden liquid was sweet and thick. It was nothing she had before. Chills caressed her bare skin, and it felt like ice-cold cords slid around her wrists. When she looked at them she saw they were bare.
Seth took back the mug. “Good. Now go mingle, after all we are here for fun.” He leaned into give Amy a kiss on the cheek. “I will meet with you later.”

“Promise?” she asked.

He laughed at the neediness in her voice. “Of course. Now go,” he dismissed them with a wave of his hand.
The three fanned out onto the dance floor. Right away Nicky found a partner. He was a man with a light brown complexion. His black hair was combed back. He slipped his arms around Nicky’s waist to pull her close to him. She laughed, feeling intoxicated. Their bodies moved as one to the music.

Hours passed. Sweat lightly covered Nicky’s body. She searched the dancing mob for her friends as she kept her body moving as one with Alan’s. She spotted Jill first. Her curls were now limp on her head. Her make-up was smeared from the sweat. She laid her head on her partner’s chest as he nuzzled her neck.
Amy was to her right. She appeared tired, wore out even. She danced in jerked motions as her partner whispered in her ears.

“Excuse me,” she breathed to Alan before she ran off the floor. She rushed to the refreshment table, needing a cool drink. The serving man poured her some punch, and handed her the glass with a smile. “Thank you,” she mumbled. She drank it, slowly.

A mirror caught her attention. She set the glass on the table before she walked over to it. She had to make sure she still looked gorgeous. Her pink hair was a little flat from dancing. She ran her fingers through it in hopes of bring back some volume. She slid her finger under her eyes to fin her smeared eyeliner. Just like that she was back to looking beautiful.

She smiled at her reflection. The smile fell from her lips when she saw the ballroom reflected in the mirror. Amy and Jill were being fed on by twisted inhuman things. Diamond chains were wrapped around her and their wrists, extending to the ceiling. Seth and his people were not human, and they laughed as they tormented their human guests. Nicky’s heart dropped; she spun around.

The ballroom was normal again. Amy leaned on her partner as they danced. He now nuzzled on her heck. Her complexion was pale and chalky. Nicky worried that she might not be feeling well. Seth shot her a charming smile from across the room. She smiled in return.

Get a hold of yourself, she ordered herself. The liquor in her last drink had gone straight to her head. Determined to prove to herself she was just drunk she faced the mirror again.

The horrid image remained the same. She eyed the diamond chains around her wrists. Looking down at her flesh she saw nothing was on her. Odd, she thought knowing she wasn’t crazy.

Her eyes narrowed on the diamond chains in the mirror. Watching her reflection, she reached out to grab hold of the left one. She could feel its rough surface against her fingertips. Glancing down, she saw her hand was empty. Looking back into the mirror as she broke the chains, first the left one then the right one. She was free of the magically hold.

The diamonds fell from her hand as she turned to face the ballroom. She was not imagining the nightmare in the mirror. The humans had diamond chains latched onto their wrists that extended to the ceiling. The jeweled ceiling had people reaching out of it as they guided the humans on the strings. The indoor waterfall now was filled with blood.

Seth and the others were not humans. They had gray dead flesh, hollowed eyes and tattled clothes. They were ghouls. Seth stood on the edge of group. There was a large gash on his right cheek, and she could see his jawbone and teeth. His eyes were sunk in, and his nails were long and dirty. She stepped back, needing to escape but not without her friends.

She searched the thriving mob. Amy and Jill were happily allowing the ghouls to feed on them. “No,” she cried out.

The ghouls turned towards her. Hungry eyes coldly stared at her. It was too late for Amy and Jill, she knew she could not help them if she was ghoul food as well. Seth raised a hand to point at her as he let out an ear splitting scream. The herd of ghouls ran towards her.

“Shit,” fell from her lips before she turned to run out of the closest door.

It opened to a hall of doors. Her heart raced as she randomly chose one. She ducked inside and quietly closed it. She faced the brown surface as she held the knob, determined to keep her hunters out. She heard the ghouls rush by and howl. They wanted her blood.

Calm down, she ordered herself knowing she had to get together if she wanted to survive. Behind her came the sound of chains rattling. Her body tensed with renewal fear. Reluctantly, she turned to see what was behind her.

Suspended in the air was a man. Hooks dug into him and stretched out his skin as the chains kept him in place. She covered her mouth to hold back his scream. There were parts of him stripped of skin. Horrified, she backed into the door.

“Nicky,” Seth called from the hall. She spun to face it again. “Come out Nicky. I’m hungry.”

Oh no, she panicked. He was going to find her. She had to escape. Franticly, she eyed her surroundings. Past the suspended man and chains she could see a curtain. Her heart slipped a beat as fresh excitement coursed through her because perhaps there was a window behind her curtain.

“Nicky,” Seth quietly called from the other side of the door. “I can smell you in there.”

She suppressed a chill as she moved forward. Dropping to all fours, she crawled under the man hanging in the chains. He moaned as he tried to pull free. Please be quiet, she silently begged him.

“Boo,” Seth yelled when he opened the door. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked with an amused smirk on his face.

She rose to her feet, and ran to the curtain. Pulling it aside, she was relieved to find a window. She struggled with its latch before she managed to get it unlocked.

“Come here!” Seth demanded as he tossed the suspended man aside. He screamed as the hooks ripped his flesh from his body.

Nicky hopped out the window. Her heels sunk into the wet grass. She kicked them off, knowing she had to run. She headed towards the woods.

She could hear Seth and the other ghouls chasing her. She felt helpless as she ran blindly into the wilderness. The trees cleared as she ran into a road. She screamed as a car stopped inches from her. “What are you doing?” the driver yelled.

She ran around the front and hopped in the passenger side. She pushed the lock down. “Go, go, go,” she told the young driver. She recognized him from working at her favorite restaurant. He was a busboy there.

“What the fuck lady?” he exclaimed, startled she was in his car.

“Go,” she pleaded. “They are coming!”

“Who?”

Seth ran to the door and hit the window. She screamed as she coward in her seat. He slammed on the glass as he gave her a deadly growl. “Please,” she looked at the driver. “Go.” He stepped on the gas and got them out of there. He drove her to the police station.

It took her an hour to convince them to send on officer out to the castle. She rode in the backseat to direct him to it, since no one knew of a castle being in Morgan.

“There’s nothing here but a bunch of abandoned cars,” Officer Dan told her as he rounded the bend.

“What?” She leaned forward to see it were true. The castle was gone but the cars remained. Her eyes narrowed on Amy’s. “They’re gone,” she whispered as tears filled her eyes. “Those bastards took my friends.” Enraged, she hit the wire that kept the bad guys in the backseat.

“Calm down Nicky,” Dan said. “You have had a long night, probably a lot to drink as well.”

“No I didn’t!”

“I’m taking you home.” He turned the car around, and drove towards her house.

“But-“

“But nothing.” And that was the end of it.

Amy and the others would not be found, and no one would believe Nicky’s story. From that point on she would keep her doors locked, and stay in at night. Seth stalked her in her dreams and made it hard for her to sleep. She now questioned the stories of old, and avoided the shadows. She had survived that night but in the end those ghouls had still stole her life.
