Lemon, Cold, Sweet and Tart
Another In the Pantry Classics sneak peek… So far, this is my favorite dessert for spring and summer. Perfect because it’s cold and light – not too much to weigh you down! Suddenly, I’m fascinated with photo staging. If it didn’t take me so long to get a good shot, I’d be further along in my cooking for this book. After taking more than 31 photos, re-staging and taking more, I’m exhausted for the day! And it really is true; {Read More}

Slice a Bagel Safely
If you don’t have a bagel slicer, then maybe you don’t know the danger in slicing a bagel. Check the statistics – 1,979 people cut their fingers so badly they ended up in the ER. Not only is it dangerous, but it’s not easy getting an even slice. Lay the bagel on its flat side and cut down through the middle to produce 2 halves. Place each piece, cut side down, to safely slice in half. Related {Read More}

Butter Slices and Cubes
Cutting butter slices and cubes is a time-consuming task and besides, I don’t like getting my hands greasy – I know, it’s a personal issue. Cooks are supposed to get their hands dirty, right? Well, not me – only if I can’t avoid it. If you have an egg slicer, this makes it super easy for cutting butter for biscuits, pie dough and anything else you need sliced or cubed butter for. The only concern is that you must have {Read More}

Strawberry Pie – Not All Classic Recipes Cut It!
What happens to a classic recipe when it’s not as good as should be? It ends up on my blog, of course – not in a classics book! The family fondly remembered this recipe for Strawberry Pie and we all looked forward to devouring it… and we did! It was delish, but sadly not camera or book ready. I knew as soon as I started making the recipe that I would regret it. When you purchase this pie, it comes {Read More}

Peach Krumble
In the Pantry Classics Sneak Peek Update: Just noticed I used “Krumble” in the title of this post and it should have been “Krunch.” My goof, but I can’t change it now. Krunch – it’s a Krunch! I’m currently working on a spring/summer desserts digest and what fun I’m having. I’ve already posted one picture of a dessert that will be featured in the book. Today I was looking at the recipe for a Peach Krunch. As I reviewed the {Read More}

The Blog Has a New Look!
As much as I liked the original format on this blog, I became bored with it, so this week I was experimenting with different backgrounds. Although I thought I liked the yellow gingham, the very next day I decided it just wasn’t doing it for me. And that wasn’t the only problem I had with the blog format. I quickly found that I needed more flexibility because there just wasn’t enough room on the page to add everything I wanted {Read More}

Happy Mother’s Day 2012
I hope you are having a beautiful Mother’s Day. We’re going out to a very old steak house on the Las Vegas strip. I’ve been saving my calories for this lovely dinner! Here’s one of the flowers in the bouquet my son sent me!

American Classic Digest – Hamburger and Hot Dog Backyard BBQ
Volume 1 In the Pantry Classics After writing Volume 1 and Volume 2 for In the Pantry Quick Breads, I needed a break. My brother suggested I come out for my Mother’s 84th birthday and that got me thinking. Why not work on a cookbook together?! With all the late spring and summer holidays coming up, of course it had to be a barbecue… and that brought up all the classic recipes we have. These classic recipes have been used {Read More}

Potatoes for Potato Salad
Potato Salad is a a classic all over the world and is made differently in each country/region. Over the years, I have gone from making the classic potato salad recipe to using many different variations. These variations include trying different potatoes, adding different ingredients to the salad, including hard boiled eggs or not, and different types of acid. Some regions like their potato salad hot and others like it cold; some like it sour and others like it sweet. Did {Read More}
