Book Signing Follow-up @ All Things Irish, March 16

BOOK SIGNING yesterday @ All Things Irish in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. What a more appropriate place to celebrate and sign copies of my novel, THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE than at this wonderful store. Lots of green, Irish Music and blarney and great atmosphere. This full service variety store sell almost everything and anything Irish or Celtic related from clothing, jewelry, ceramics, household items, pictures, books, etc.

I had another great signing, met lots of people and sold lots of books, three at a time in one case. Received lots of compliments on my niece, Katrina Brennan Hughes' portrait of Macha, my story's main character. Even though Macha was a British Celt, she was still a Celt and that's what counted to these folks.

There was a parade later that afternoon, sponsord by All Things Irish, that passed in front of the store. Afterward, people poured back into the store for at least another hour.

I want to thank store owner, Ilene Downey Moss, and store associates Terry & Karlene for their assistance in making this a successful signing. The atmosphere could not have been better.

Book Signing Follow-up @ Hastings, Moses Lake, WA, March 15

BOOK SIGNING FOLLOW-UP (First of a double-header). Yesterday, friday, I conducted a book signing @ Hastings Books, Music & Videos in Moses Lake, Washington, a major farm city in the heart of the Columbia River Basin. Met lots of good people and past out flyers. Although the event started slowly, I finished with a flourish and broke all store records for the number of books sold by a local author (for management, you are considered local if you live within a 200 mile radius--it's a 2 hr. drive from where I live). Needless to say, the store manager and the book manager, Kathryn, said I could return anytime I wanted to. I plan to return next year when my next novel is published.

I want to thank book manager, Kathryn DaSilva for her assitance and the rest of the Hastings associates for making this event a resounding success.

I will be @ All Things Irish in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, March 16, for another signing and the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Website Blog Update

After experiencing temps in the mid-30's in Spokane Valley, the trip to Lewiston, Idaho, Friday, March 8, for my latest book signing, just for the weather itself was almost worth it--mid 60 temps! The book signing at Hastings Books, Music & Videos went very well. Met lots of good people, gave out flyers and several people complimented the portrait of Macha, the book cover, painted by my Niece Katrina Hughes Brennan. Best of all I sold more copies of The Sign of the Eagle than I expected. Several Hastings Associates summed it up in one word, awesome.
I want to thank associates Austin and Donal (he's Irish) for there assistance which ensure a successful signing.

Next week will be a book signing double-header: Friday, March 15 at Hastings in Moses Lake, WA and Saturday, March 16 at All Things Irish in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for St. Patrick's Day Saturday. The owner of All Things Irish, Ilene Downey Moss, says this is the store's busiest day of the year, surpassing Christmas. The Coeur d'Alene St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is also coordinated Ilene Downey Moss, starts at 3 p.m. and passes right by the store. I will be watching with everyone else.

I was a guest blogger on Author, Maggie Secara's site in which I discuss how I built up my private library of classical history books and used to write my historical novels, e.g. THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE. See below link for full blog/interview.

Hooray! I just completed the final rewrite of chapter 57, the last chapter of The Wolf of Britannia. My mentor, Patricia DeMars Pfeiffer (author of eight historical novels) conducted another review and found only minor errors in which I fixed. Now I can set it aside until I send it to my book doctor/editor (she worked for Harper-Collins for eight years) for a second and final review during the week following May 24th. After I make the changes she suggests, it goes to my publisher, Sunbury Press, who will consider formatting it as a duo-logy. Now, I can turn my attention to my other historical, The Broken Lance.

On Sunday, March 10, I met with the Spokane Valley Writers Group at Starbucks, inside Spokane Valley Barnes & Noble for another writers critique/workshop session. Since I have finished The Wolf of Britannia (at least for now), I have continued the rewriting and now reading from my next historical, The Broken Lance.

I read from chapter 43 in which my protagonist, Marcellus, who is a Spanish Centurion in the Roman Army and personal retainer for Titus Flavius Sabinus (historical character) and brother of future Emperor, Vespasian. He witnesses a major spectacle, the Naval Games in the great Augustan Naval Arena which is a huge artificial lake in the area now occupied by the Vatican City. A gladiator from India, who used to be a slave of Sabinus, is killed despite the crowd asking the Emperor Claudius for mercy. As a result a massive ensues and Marcellus is caught in the middle of it. More to follow.

In the future, April 16, I will have Author, Maria Grace, as guest blogger. Will include more details as they become available.

Rewriting the final chapter of THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA

Spent three hours this morning in Starbucks @ Spokane Valley Barnes & Noble on rewriting the last chapter of my historical, THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA. I am getting closer to completion. I've had to edit, cut, and combine into one chapter. Probably one more rewrite, then I will have my mentor review it. This is the story my publisher will consider dividing into a duology. Still have to run it past by book doctor as well.

Did a couple more hours of rewriting this afternoon, too.
