The Wolf of Britannia, Part i & II Coming Soon!

COMING SOON! THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA, PART I (FEBRUARY) & PART II (AUGUST) . The exciting prequels to THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE. To be published by Sunbury Press (www.sunburypress.com)

When a young Celtic prince, desperate to prove himself to his father, is forced to gather every ounce of strength and courage to fight an enemy more cunning and powerful than either he or Britain has ever faced, will he be able to save his family, his sacred homeland, and his imperial legacy−or will his own head be among the next spoils of war?

The Wolf of Britannia, is a breathtaking historical novel of action and suspense set in the years between 27 and 60 A.D., in the mysterious land of ancient Britain and the majestic palaces of Rome. In the first millennium's early days, the Romans held power over most of the world's people through disciplined savagery, yet many citizens fought to break from tyranny. This painstaking researched tale is one such fight for freedom.

In the wilds of Britain, the soon-to-be legendary Prince Caratacus and his tribe of warriors are facing down the seemingly unbeatable Roman army.
After winning the southern British throne, Caratacus leads his people as they strive for freedom from the iron-fisted Roman rule that has nearly obliterated their culture and lifestyle.

As the prince fights alongside his wife, a warrior princess who takes no prisoners, Caratacus must also outsmart a duplicitous brother determined to take the throne, battle his beautiful, conniving, and lascivious cousin−a queen who wants Caratacus for herself−and keep his people free.

Action-paced and steeped in ancient historical characters, The Wolf of Britannia is the story of one courageous man who must conquer the entire Roman army or die trying.

Excerpt from The Sign of the Eagle

Excerpt from THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE.
Macha was well aware Rome was a dangerous place when enshrouded in darkness. Lamplight escaping from stalls of all-night cookshops and taverns, and torches posted in wall niches lining the alleys leading to the city's better brothels did little more than allow a victim to see which shadow picked his pockets. Besides hardened teamsters driving produce and goods wagons, by law allowed to make deliveries only after dark, few people ventured forth without an escort or the company of friends. Robbers, footpads, and gangs of toughs roamed the streets searching for hapless victims to rob, beat, and test the sharpness of their iron blades. Gods help the lone woman, including prostitutes, working the streets.

Excerpt from The Sign of the Eagle

Excerpt from The Sign of the Eagle
Because of her harrowing experience as a child of seven in Rome's Tullianum Prison, Macha was no stranger to the stockade. She shuddered as the memories flooded her mind. After waging guerrilla warfare against Rome, her father's treacherous cousin, Cartimandua, Queen of the Brigantes, had betrayed Caratacus to the Romans. He had been captured, along with her mother and herself. The family languished in the filthy dungeon, surviving on watered-down gruel and moldy bread for two weeks before being paraded through the streets of Rome in lice infested rags to appear before Emperor Claudius. Even now she could feel the awful pests crawling on her body and the pangs of starvation within the walls of her stomach.

Second Edit completed on Wolf of Britannia, Part II

I have entered all the manual (penciled) changes for my historical novel set in Celtic Britain and First Century AD Rome, THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA, PART II, into my online copy of the manuscript. I just emailed the copy to the editor, assigned to this book, at Sunbury Press for a brief review. After that it will be formatted for publication. In this case it will be August 2015 before it is actually released. THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA, PART I will be published first in February (tentative). Keep in mind this is a work of FICTION not HISTORY. Sunbury Press Books is a traditional small press, it is not an indie publisher. Those who submit novels or books for possible publication may wait up to eight months to hear whether their manuscripts will be accepted for publication (I waited nearly 6 months. Now, that I am in their stable, only waited one month for acceptance of Wolf). If the publisher decides to take you on as a client, an editor will be assigned to the book. At least two edits/reviews will be done and you can be she (he) will ask you to make changes. I made a lot in both my novels. But they are far better because of it. That is what editors are for. Don't be egotistical to every word you have written is set in stone, it's not! But your work has to be good beforehand or it will be rejected. These people aren't pushovers.

Excerpt from The Sign of the Eagle

For those of you who have not read my historical, The Sign of the Eagle, here is an excerpt. This takes place beneath Rome (71 A.D.) in the great sewer known as the Cloaca Maxima. It was so big that an ancient trireme (three banks of oars) could sail through it. It was also the hiding place of bandits.

"They've got our boats!" A cry echoed from the shore. A rain of stones flew from the darkness and pummeled the little band as they paddled through the watery mess, pulling strongly. A searing pain went through Macha's skull. Something struck the side of her head. More rocks pounded Macha and Shafer about the shoulders and back. For a second she nearly lapsed into unconsciousness. Quickly, she recovered, feeling a ringing sensation within her head. Mother Goddess, she prayed, get us out of here alive. She and Shafer slashed their oars through the water as they attempted to out run the predators.

Three or four torches flew past the boats; one so close Mach felt the heat on her face.

Hearing the loud splash near her boat, Macha looked over the side. She spotted the bobbing head of one of the attackers swimming toward them in the filth. Aghast, she wondered how can anyone could be mad enough to immerse themselves in these scummy waters? She didn't hesitate to grab the dagger from within her tunic. The bandit grabbed the edge and rocked the boat. Macha nearly fell out, her face inches from his scarred countenance, a mask of ooze and slime. She snagged the boat's side with one hand and thrust the weapon deep into his eye and twisted until she hear a snap. He screamed and fell away, sinking beneath the putrid effluvium.

The Wolf of Britannia, Part 2, update

Just received from the editor at Sunbury Press, the second edit/revision of THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA, PART 2. She really likes the revisions (based on her suggestions and mine) I made, especially, near the end (the new chapter). There is one very minor revision she would like me to make and then do a final review before resubmitting. At that time it will be go to final formatting. She will be sending part 1 in for formatting next week. This will keep me busy for awhile. Moving right along!
