{Diabetes Awareness Month} Thought 14

Diabetes Awareness Month

“Annually, November 14 is World Diabetes Day. 11/14 is the birthday of Dr. Banting, who with Best, discovered insulin in 1921.”

If you would like to know more about the discovery of insulin, you can read my book review here:

Diabetes Awareness Month

“Pre-bolusing, or giving insulin for at least part of the meal up front, can help reduce post prandial blood sugar spikes. The goal is to match the peaks of the insulin and the carbs.”

{Diabetes Awareness Month} Quick Reflections on the First Week

Diabetes Awareness Month 2014

When I compiled 30 diabetes thoughts, one for each day of Diabetes Awareness Month, I knew that some of them would resonate with people affected by diabetes.

What I never anticipated was how widely the graphics would be shared on social media.

Sometimes I feel that diabetes awareness is preaching to the choir. Yes, it helps us feel less alone. But for it truly to be diabetes awareness, we need to reach those outside of our own diabetes online community (DOC) to help educate those who may not kn...

Home Decor…for people with diabetes?

Q is growing up and as such wants an update to her bedroom. We promised that when she turns 11 and transitions from grade school to middle school that we would paint her room and change the theme. We might just do it the week that she is away at d-camp.

Though this bedroom makeover is still a good six months away, she’s already gathering ideas.

What she would really like is a loft bed so that she can have a desk underneath. She wants the desk area to be her “studio” for sketching and sewing. Sh...

{Diabetes Awareness Month} Thought 9

Diabetes Awareness Month

“The sugar alcohols in sugar-free candy can cause gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, especially in younger kids. Regular candy can be a better option with insulin to cover it. It’s a myth that sugar-free is always better for people with diabetes.”

Every day during Diabetes Awareness Month, I will share a fact, tip, or thought on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.
