Gratitude, contentment & happiness
If you want a life that is joyful, enjoyable and happy then the swiftest and surest way to achieve it is not by rushing out to attain more or busily working to be ‘your best self’ it is actually to appreciate who you truly are already and all that you have today. This is the birthplace of fulfilment.
Of course there is much to be said by pursuing this, working on that etc…it is part of how we learn, gather an ‘intellect’ and how we achieve things. That’s all great but happiness, contentment are about today, now, success tends to be about tomorrow. Even when you have the trophy in your hands after a few minutes, hours or days you start to think about ‘the next thing’. And so it goes on and on.
Meanwhile happiness, gratitude, joy, inner peace – all the things you were looking for which you think will be in the box called ‘success’ – are waiting patiently and graciously for you. The only true becoming is to as I put it ‘become who you are’ and that is actually an embracing of yourself and life itself. By all means play with and enjoy success but success is not happiness although it has a touch of its perfume.

Reflecting on our selfie, tech & social media era
Or will we reflect on it being the re-birth of a raised consciousness, creativity, possibility where anyone with a touch screen can make make a major impact on the hearts and minds on anyone anywhere on this beautiful planet? A time of people creating new portals of possibilities for one and all?…Or perhaps as with so many eras before it may be that we come to reflect on it as a complex blend of both.
****
My own take on this is that – as with all things – our own consciousness is key. It is a time where our awareness, mindfulness and ability to be considered and compassionate is vital. There is little value in an advancement in technology where we are ourselves have not raised the day to day level of consciousness that we operate. This is a topic that I intend to return to in future blogs as there is much more that can be touched on. What’s more important than what I think is how you interact – not just through social media but actually, vocationally, socially in business. What’s important is how connected you actually are to yourself, what you do and those around you and how you bring your heart, gifts and consciousness to the fore to benefit one and all.

Intention – input & integrity – impact
This weekend I was coaching a very talented young doctor who you just know is going places. He is bright in mind and kind of heart. He reminded me that I had set him a task to explore what these words in the image meant – and what they meant to him.
Our coaching session then centred simply on these words; Intention, Integrity & Input, Impact. I invite you to consider them also. We discussed how top athletes are very mindful of this and that they are often clear from very early on in life – the career impact/achievements they seek. That becomes their intention and the the input and integrity required becomes clear. That becomes their life’s work.I am a specialist on inner fulfilment and working from the heart and from there carrying out your work to the benefit of all – not just yourself. But discovering your ‘self’ is often the first step. In the case of this doctor we also spoke about the power of intention in healing – and all the dimensions of integrity. From our earliest conversation his intention – and integrity was to make a positive impact through rich contribution to the lives of others.
In my own case my work: intention-input/integrity-impact is to help people of all backgrounds find fulfilment in all areas of their lives – from within.Within that I often coach teachers, healers and leaders – established and emerging in all fields. Some are in entertainment/music/media, some are in the corporate world, some are CEOs, some are starting out in their careers, some are Sometimes they are aware of their gifts, potential and that they are a leader-teacher-healer ..many are not.
The invitation always is to follow the heart …it is surest way to find your path

Become who you are…. 10 years on
“Sooner or later you’ll hear what your heart has always been telling you: stop trying to be who you think you should be…become who you are” – Rasheed Ogunlaru.
I recorded Become who you are – my semi meditative talk for happiness and inner fulfilment – 10 years ago in 2006. The talk takes you on an inner journey to embrace yourself, gently reflect on your life journey, identify where all ‘your’ thoughts, doubt and perspectives came from. It then helps you ‘brush the dust away from the flower’ and reconnects you to your self. Much like a reboot of a computer.
It was recorded as a stream of consciousness. It was quite a magical process. All I did was to write down the list of 14 chapter headings and went into the recording studio and opened my heart and the words fell out.
Track listing:
1) welcome
2) The myth of modern living
3) Finding yourself
4) The root …before the problem
5) Shopping basket full of ideas
6) Brushing the dust from the flower
7) Call off the search
8) Innate Happiness
9) You are already whole
10) The value of fear
11) A call from within
12) Deeper Understanding
13) The present
14) The birthplace of true liberation.
This recording was the real start of my career. While I had been coaching for a few years this was really the moment that I established my own approach – and my specialism around inner fulfilment first.
I remain very proud of it today. Along with my first book The Gift of Inner Success they say all I have to say about the essence of life. My book Soul Trader then explores how to be it and life it in your life’s work. Fulfilment and peace are a one step journey of embracing yourself, life itself and everyone else. Once this embrace happens in your heart your mind will calm and your life will feel rich beyond material wealth.

Inner magic…
“Know your magic, trust your magic, use your magic and know that you are a manifestation of life’s magic” – Rasheed Ogunlaru, Coach – Speaker – Author.
I saw this beautiful piece of street art in the photograph you see during this week. It reminded me of the remarkable gifts and talents that we all have. Some let their magic shine. While others shy away, hide away, get in their own way, get dejected when things don’t go their way or when barriers are (put) in their way.
To me being a creative means not just creating art, music, dance, film, craft, clothes, literature – or whatever it is but being creative about how we let it it express itself. By that I don’t just mean the work. I mean how you go about your life’s work.
When I was pursuing music I was so obsessed with one door – getting a deal – that I did not look for, explore discover or create other doors, windows or paths. But first and foremost ones creativity – or professional / personal talents – flow through.
Sometimes it’s just about creating…simply for the expression, satisfaction, healing, joy and beauty it brings. Sometimes it is something that somehow needs to be shared with others. Be it on a local city street or via simple yet global social media page.
This is not just a theme for the so called ‘creatives’ among you. It’s for one and all. It’s about recognising your worth, your value, spotting what you do well, putting in the time and attention to develop those skills, ‘backing’ oneself and pursuing your own path passionately. Invariably there are all sorts of ups and downs along the way – on that personal, career or business path but it is a deeply fulfilling one.

Leadership in your own life, career and business
“There is so much talk about poor leadership in the workplace through to globally – often aptly. But leadership – and real transformation – begins within and with each spirit individually. You don’t need to be a Chief Executive or manager. Take responsibility for your own life, acts and deeds. Take the drivers seat personally and professionally. Step up, play your part, sing your song. But do it mindfully, cooperatively and compassionately.” – Rasheed Ogunlaru.
I run many life, career and business development programmes throughout the year. I watch at the start of each course as most people sit at the back of the room. It even happens when I run leadership programmes. “How do you expect to get a front row seat in your life if you sit in the back row of a course?” I often start by pointing this out. Back yourself, trust yourself, believe in yourself. Show up, step forward, share your gifts.
The fact is many are never given – or afford themselves the space -to first stop their gifts, then fully hone their talents and put them to their fullest effect… or at least really start to head down that path. But for that to happen you need to at some point take the lead. You may be fortunate; at some point a friend, boss, manager, sibling, parent, guardian, colleague, parter or a passer by may point your magic out to you. They may take you under their wing. The may mentor you, guide you, advise you, style your or inspire you. I have had that happen to me and I am grateful for it. Sometimes it’s just a word or two said here or there. But it may not always happen… at that moment you must take the lead.
There’s something more: at that moment it may be apt that you take the lead as the baton has been passed to you. Sometimes the wisdom may come from your own inner voice, your own inner wisdom. “Rasheed you have people skills – if you have people skills you can do anything” I still hear that voice (my own) in my mind in my early 20s when I was not sure I had the confidence or ability to step up into a more senior role that had emerged.
This week I begin working on a new leadership course I’ll be delivering in an NHS Trust. While there’s lots of materials, tools, coaching, practical exercises and the like I will be pulling together and sharing as far as I am concerned that is not where the magic resides. The magic is always in the asides. It is always in the glints in peoples’ eyes when then deeply ‘get’ and ‘reclaim’ what you are talking about.
I have a saying “Coaching is a bit like pointing someone to a baton that they already have in their own hands – but where they will run with it I have no idea”.
Whether you are a leader at home, work, socially, in business or in any aspect of your life know that actually that in so many ways you are at the core and the centre. You open your eyes in the morning and their the world is. You close them at night and it vanishes from your view. This world is dependent on you. But it is not your mind alone that will enrich this world. No that is never enough. It is your gifts and your heart that will do that. Once you put your heart back at the centre of your life, your work, your relationships, your art, your sport, your career your business then countless other lives will be touched. Then magic will happen as the beacon of self leadership and reach participation, contribution and collaboration will be aflame. That is a light that is illuminating, warming and emancipating. It is already there within – waiting. We often feel these things tae courage… sometimes so. But more often than not it is compassion; and tenderness toward yourself, life itself and your fellow travellers that will make this very achievable for you.

Step into the world
“Step into the world and share gifts for the benefit of one and all” – Rasheed Ogunlaru, Coach-Speaker-Author.
A funny thing can happen in life; that we play shy, that we step aside that we are far to quiet.. that we wait until ‘the perfect time.’ As a coach I meet so many talented people who are live life like flowers with their petals closed. Don’t be afraid to open up and share your magic, beauty, colour, scent and wonder with the world.
When I run many talks, courses and seminars I often ask: “who inspires you and why? And how can you apply that learning in your own lives?” To me those who inspire us are a prompt – a baton exchange – from them to you for you to share your gifts and do your life’s work. As a coach to individuals, entrepreneurs, CEOs, leaders and team I find that magic happens when – as I put it above – when you embrace your gifts, and share your talent in the world for the benefit of one and all.
You can find more inspiration, tips, tools and insights here on my website and on my YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
