Tuesday Teaser: H C Brown
Today's Tuesday Teaser is HC Brown - boy, when I first saw her name come up on Total-E-Bound's author loop I didn't realise how big in the business she was. So, believe me, I'm a little star-struck right now and I feel honoured that she has agreed to an interview and answered all my questions - the business and the nosy ones. And yeah, she's feeding my tbr-list, too. Hurt Me Good is right up my alley - Enjoy!
The business ones
Please give us a short introduction about yourselfFirst published in 2006, H.C Brown is a multi published, best selling, award winning, author of Historical, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, BDSM, Time Travel, Action Adventure, and Contemporary Romance.
In 2011 she was delighted to received nomination in three categories in the 2011 CAPA Awards.
H.C writes about strong alpha males in complex settings and all her stories have happy endings.
She married her childhood sweetheart and lives close to the beach in Queensland, Australia. Her interests include art, music, and reading romance.
What genre(s) do you write in and why?I write in a wide variety of genres to keep my writing fresh. There aren’t many genres I don’t like to write. I like to seek every aspect of my skill. As for a favourite sub genre, M/M tops the list. I love writing edgy contemporary and paranormal worlds with no rules.
Tell us about your latest release
Hurt Me Good is a M/M, BDSM, Erotic romance set in a world of leather clubs, wealth , drugs and rock’n’ roll. The story is about two guys from opposite walks of life. Take one Dom rock star author, throw an arrogant vanilla stripper in his path, and watch the sparks fly. This story has many sub plots which prevent a smooth ride for either of my characters. But then none of my stories are what you could call ordinary.
Here is the blurb:
Harper Cole may look like a best-selling author doing research for his next book, but underneath it all, he is a badass Dom and ex-rock star looking for a sub. When he meets a sexy stripper at the local gym, he uses the pretence of doing research for his next erotic novel to get close to the delicious man.
To the world Flame is a self-confident male stripper and acclaimed modern dancer, but deep down, he carries a crippling secret that stops him from trusting anyone. When Harper saves him from a life-threatening attack, Flame starts to open up, and even though his vanilla preferences don’t exactly match with Harper’s plans, he finds himself attracted to the big Dom.
Their worlds collide, leaving both men reeling. Harper is determined to show Flame the benefits of taking a ride on the wild side, but Flame cannot trust his heart to another man. What will it take to bring these two men together? It’s up to Harper, as the Dom, to make it happen… if it’s possible at all.

And the winners are...
Sorry, guys, this is long overdue. My - hopefully acceptable - excuse is that I've been hiding in my writing cave. I did contact last week's winners by email, but you still have to get your official announcement. Oh, and congratulations, of course!
So, congrats and a big thank you go to Lasha and strive4bst!
*throws confetti*
Thank you to all the other visitors and everyone who left a comment. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you this week, but there is one more round to play, so what'cha waiting for?

What's with the Muses?
I was recently invited as a guest to a new blog run by four lovely fellow authors. It's called "Four Seduced Muses" and I'm reposting the main article here, in case you missed it (Still, the blog is worth checking out, so after you finished here, go visit them: http://fourseducedmuses.blogspot.com)
I always find it hard to come up with something to write. Guest blog posts are even trickier because they're about addressing a different circle of people than my own readers. In this case, however, it was fairly easy for me to find a topic. The name of the blog. Four Seduced Muses. It's a great name and I like the imagery. Above all, I like muses. Or rather, the Muse—my muse, precisely.
But what is this “muse” that authors, or creative people in general, talk about so frequently?
“The Muses (…) in Greek mythology, poetry, and literature, are the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge, related orally for centuries in the ancient culture that was contained in poetic lyrics and myths.”
The classical understanding of the Muses considered them nine goddesses “who embody the arts and inspire creation with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance”.
"In modern English usage, muse (non capitalized but deriving from the classical Muses) can refer in general to a person who inspires an artist, writer, or musician."
So far the Wikipedia explanation. But do muses exist? And if they do, what are they? Goddesses? Ordinary people who, for some reason trigger a creative process in a writer, singer, sculptor or painter? Or is the muse perhaps simply an aspect of a creative person's own mind, of their subconscious, that reveals itself in certain situations or with a certain stimulation?
Maybe looking at a creative process in action makes it easier to build an opinion. For me, writing usually works like this: I have a general idea to start with. I'll grab my laptop, sit down with it and start. Most of the time, that's the moment the story starts developing. Sometimes what happens is not at all what I thought would happen. Sometimes I find myself writing things I never thought I would write. I wrote characters I never thought I would write. It's like the words are just flowing through me, or, as a friend and fellow author once described it, “the story is being channelled through me”. It already exists somewhere, all I have to do is write it down.
Now I'd like to hear your opinion. What do you think muses are? Favourable goddesses? Ordinary people? A subconscious part of the artist themselves?
I honestly don't know. All I know is that my muse can be very generous. Oh, and I think his name is Matt.
If you'd like to read more about what writing means for a passionate author, why don’t you give my Phoenix-series a try? Jazz Spencer can tell you far more eloquently what it’s like to be a neurotic author.
Catching a Phoenix(MM contemporary erotic romance, novel)
Confined to rural England for a holiday, Ryan Holmes isn’t expecting the only person within a five-mile radius to be the man of his dreams. Hotheaded but introverted, Jazz Spencer, Ryan’s solitary neighbour, may look like a dream come true but has the potential to become a nightmare.
Giving in to mutual attraction, they begin an affair, and Ryan finds himself increasingly intrigued. But even though they are obviously very compatible on a physical level, Jazz remains distant. His reluctance to reveal his feelings, or indeed much personal information at all, forces Ryan to make his own assumptions, which mostly turn out to be painfully wrong.
Ryan soon has to realise that whenever he is about to fall in love, Jazz just shies away, leaving Ryan's heart burned by the heat of passion.
Determined that he can solve the mystery that Jazz is to him anyway, Ryan sets out to catch him for good.

Keeping a Phoenix

As Ryan unveils Jazz’s secrets, he is determined not to let him escape again. Going all in, he shows Jazz exactly how much he's wanted - with astonishing results.

Tuesday Teaser: Nancy Adams (guest)
Today's Tuesday Teaser is my lovely fellow Total-E-Bound author Nancy Adams. She's come up with some very insightful answers to my questions and she tells you about "The Soul Within", her latest paranormal release. Oh, and she's bringing you an excerpt, too. Please say hello to Nancy and remember, all comments will be considered for my big November contest!
Author Interview
The business ones
Please give us a short introduction about yourself.Hi Sage. Thanks so much for having me today. I’m thrilled to be here.
My name is Nancy Adams. I am a full fledge Canadian right down to the maple syrupy running through my veins. I have a few obsessions - all legal of course - like spending a small fortune on bed lines, surrounding myself in lavender and the odd time, I like to sit and write naughty stories. At the moment, my family and I are living in Ottawa, Ontario with our two giant lap dogs.
What genre(s) do you write in and why?Erotic Romance! I love to read romance books, but I find that I’m always left wanting more when it came to the love scenes between the main characters, which is why I write erotic romance. I get to continue where others leave off. It’s a lot of fun, even more so when I combine erotic romance with other genres such as Time-travel, paranormal, contemporary, and historical.
Tell us about your latest release. My latest release is a paranormal erotic romance titled The Soul Within.
It’s about Alex, a government killer, who ends up getting shot by his partner when he stops him from killing an innocent pregnant women. Alex ends up in a coma as a result and his soul becomes separate from his body. Desperate to save the woman and her unborn child, Alex listens to the advice of a lippy ghost and hunts down Evening Sinclair. Evening is physiotherapist/ single mom, who has the ability to merge souls back with their bodies. From there Alex must earn Eve’s trust enough for her to merge him back with his body so he can save two innocent lives.
What inspired The Soul Within?I’m not really sure where the idea of the story came from, it just popped in my head one day. However, the ghosts and layout of one of the houses in the story is the same layout of a house my parents bought in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. It was an older house, that was close to the ocean, and whose former owners just happen to die in the house.
Creepy!
There were always strange things going on in that house. The water would suddenly turn on in the kitchen, doors would close by themselves up stairs when no one was up there and my dogs sometimes wouldn’t pass a certain spot in the upstairs hallway. Yikes, I still get chills when I think about it. I used some of those creepy experiences and simply adjusted them for what I needed in The Soul Within.
Gahhhh! That is creepy! Did they make you live there, Nancy???
Who is your favourite character in The Soul Within and why?I’d have to say Justine.
She has the best smart-mouth, she’s feisty, she’s funny, and despite that fact that she has recently been killed and is now a ghost, she doesn’t let that...or otherworldly spirits, stop her from helping the people she loves.
A line from The Soul Within that will leave readers saying, “What the...?”
“I know.” Justine wiggled her arms. “I just hate when my soul gets used as a sweater.”
Lol I just love this line, it makes you do a double take and ask, ‘What did she just say?’
Your favourite drink and food when writingMy day starts after I drop my kidlets off at school, so a coffee beverage of some type, usually a latte, is my drink of choice. Then I switch to juice or water with a bagel or yogurt and fruit. Nothing to exciting.
The nosy ones
How much of the real “you” is in your stories? Not too much. I like to add a little here and there, like my favourite type of coffee...Latte, the sassy-mouth of my heroine is usually something I would say or think, and so far all my stories all have some type of Canadian element thrown in. Wow, I bet that’s a real shocker. lol
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who was it?Absolutely! It’s Will MacKenzie, the hero in my next book The Bannockburn Spell. I needed a Scottish hotty with dark hair and a killer smile and Gerard Butler popped into my head. So every time think about my character Will, I see Gerard Butler. How could I not...GB is so darn yummy.
What’s the silliest error in a book you’ve submitted?Ah geez! I have this thing for mixing up quite, quiet. That drives me crazy. Thankfully my friend Rhonda (Who I like to call ‘my editor, before the editor’) catches most of them.
Who is your least favourite of the characters you’ve written? Why?Lilly Marten from my first book, No Matter When. And I wouldn’t say she was my least favourite to write, in fact I love really enjoyed creating her. She is a complex character who has had a difficult life and as a result, she is very cautious, which comes across as being timid. That’s what I found difficult, making her cautious when the situation calls for it and timid at other times, while trying not to painting the image of a helpless women.
The steamiest scene from your books.I think the steamiest scene is in my up coming release The Bannockburn Spell. It takes place in a bathroom and even though the shower is on in the background, it’s the heat between the main characters that steams up the room. Definitely my favourite.
Favourite comfort food? That’s an easy one, it use to be Macaroni and Cheese. But since learning I have a gluten allergy, it’s rice noodle Mac and Cheese. Not quite the same, but it still has the same comforting effect.
A person you admire. This is a great question. I admire a few different people, but the one that stands out the most is my mum. And it’s not because she can cook well (which she can’t by the way, the woman burns water...seriously), or that she is a nurse, or that she is fantastic with kids, but because she has this way of remaining calm and level headed through any situation. It’s quiet...argh! I mean quite amazing. I wish I was like that.
If you could ask any person in the world one question of your choice, who would it be and what would you ask them?Katie Holmes: Tom’s to short for you...what were you thinking?
LOL Despite all their other troubles, I always thought that it looked silly when they stood next to each other. She towered over him.
If you got word that The Soul Within was hitting the big screen, which actors would you choose to play your main characters in the movie version?I love this game, I play it all the time.
For Alex I would have to say Sullivan Stapleton. He’s an Australian actor with dark hair and beautiful blue eyes, he is just…wow! Google him I promise you won’t be disappointed.
For Evening, that’s a tough one, maybe Amy Adams. She’s cute.
And because the Alex’s soul goes into another body (police office Cade) I’m luck enough to get to pick another one…if only for his body alone. *grin*
For hotty police office Cade, this is easy, Jared Padalecki. Again, all I can say is WOW!
The fast ones
Favourite colour? Blue
Favourite pet? I have two. I’ve nicknamed them Beauty and the Beast.
Dog or cat? Dogs
Coffee or tea? Latte, Baby! De-lish!
Quickie or candles? This is a no brainer...candles. LOL Okay that was a lie.
Hunky or chunky? Hunky all the way!
Suit & tie or jeans & boots? Jeans and boots...my favourite!
Walk in the park or chat over cocktails? Since ‘frolic in the bushes’ isn’t a choice, I guess I’ll choose the next best thing...walk in the park. LOL
Promotional info
Short author bio: Nancy’s addiction for a good trash novel began in her late-teens when her grandmother gave her a bag of Harlequin Romance books. She was hooked and spent the next few years lurking in the dark corners of used bookstores searching for her next fix. Until, one marriage and two kids later, her own ideas had her jumping up at 3 am (much to her husband’s annoyance) and typing them into her laptop. Beside her husband and children, Nancy has three passions, rearranging furniture, buying bed linens and, of course, writing. Nancy lives in Eastern Ontario with her family and two over sized lap dogs.

Book blurb:
For generations, the Sinclairs have been healers. Using a gentle touch to heal the body and a soothing word to heal the soul. Evening Sinclair is no different. Yet despite her secret abilities, Eve has a somewhat normal existence. She enjoys her small physiotherapy practice, dotes on her eight-year-old daughter and occasionally helps souls get back into their bodies—that is until Alex, with his brooding good looks and glowing eyes, appears in her kitchen. Alex is desperate to get back into his body—two innocent lives depend on it. His only obstacle is Eve and her stubborn fear. Unfortunately for Eve, Alex is ruthless and just as stubborn. He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He will not ‘go away’ and no matter how much Eve tortures him with her lush body and perfect mouth, he will not change his mind. Eve will merge him, and if it takes him haunting her day and night, she will merge him back with a body—any body.

Steamy Excerpt from The Soul Within:
He lowered his head, his mouth hovering above hers. “You taste good.”
“I do?” She sighed, feeling his heat seep into her skin.
“Mmm. Like sex and honey, but better.” He kissed her. Long and slow until her body was aching for more. “How about a ride?” he asked, nibbling on her lip while she tried to catch her breath. “Ride?”
The only warning he gave was a deep chuckle before he rolled onto his back. Seated now on top of him Eve pouted down at him, doing her best to play innocent. “I’m not sure what to do.”
Alex raised a dark eyebrow. He gripped her hips in his big hands, raising her just above him.
She slowly lowered herself over him stopping just before he entered her, then pulling away. “Oops. I missed,” she teased. He grabbed her hips again forcing her down onto him but she held firm. “Let me try again.” This time she took a little more of him in and pulled away. “This is harder than it looks.” She gave him a wicked smile.
She knew she had pushed him too far when his nostrils flared and his hands gripped her hips painfully. He thrust deep inside her. The sensation was so overpowering her head rolled back at his delicious invasion and she groaned in ecstasy. He tugged her down and nipped at her ear. “Don’t tease me Eve, fuck me.”
Her heart jumped at the passion in his voice and her body trembled. Without any hesitation she did as he asked, moving hard and fast, bracing herself against his chest and shoulders. He slid his hand into her hair and pulling her face to his, he kissed her hard, his lips bruising hers.
Panting, she had to pull away, she couldn’t breathe. She sat back and closed her eyes, rocking her hips and covering his hands with her own when he touched her breasts. The steady movement of their bodies grinding together was all-consuming. His hands on her, stroking and cupping, their bodies joined as one. His lips pressed firmly against her. She never wanted it to end.
She locked eyes with him, his look dark and full of need. He tugged her forwards brushing his lips tenderly against hers. At that moment, little wings brushed the inside of her stomach.
“Now,” he growled out. “Give it to me now.” He clamped down on her hips and forced her to move fast. When her body began to throb, Alex was there, rolling her onto her back, forcing her thighs apart, driving into her harder and harder.
“That’s it,” he groaned with satisfaction. “I love how tight you are.”
She cried out this time as he continued to plunge into her, pushing her body far beyond it’s normal limits and she loved it, she wanted more. She wanted him to move faster, harder. She raised her hips meeting his every time he drove into her, wanting, no…needing him deeper. When she didn’t think she could stand another minute of his passionate onslaught, Alex’s sweat covered body stiffened as he covered her mouth in one more heart-stopping kiss before he called out her name, his entire body shaking.
Mmm, that book is intriguing. Thanks so much for being my guest today, Nancy - even though you did creep me out a bit, lol.
LOL

Special guest: Diana MacArthur
Hi all, I'm over at Blak Rayne's blog today for an interview *gnaws nails*, so I thought I give this space to Siren newbie author Diana MacArthur whose debut, "Windswept" releases today! She's telling you why you should not read her book - at least if you know her...Oh, when you're done here, come on over to Blak's place and see what we've been up to: www.blakrayneblog.com
Dear Family and Friends,
I have a confession to make. I have recently embarked on a new career path. No I didn’t quit my job. Let’s call it some extra money on the side. I wrote a book called Windswept and it’s being published. Yes, I’m super excited about it! I’ve always wanted to be an author. Remember that book I wrote in Grade Three about The Little Green Snowman? Well, this book is definitely not for children. In fact, I would really rather none of you read it. Why? It’s a romance book, and I know you think that’s not so bad, but according to Siren Publishing’s Heat rating, it “will definitely offend mainstream readers” and is “not for the faint-hearted”. My book contains words I’d rather you didn’t know that I know.
You still want to know? Ummm…I’ve attached the cover art. Yes, there are two guys and one girl. Yes, that says “Ménage amour”. They are musicians but I swear it’s not autobiographical! It’s easier to write about things you’re familiar with, so I chose music. Am I familiar with sex with two men? That’s kind of a personal question, don’t you think? Yes, I wrote about it, but just because Laurell K. Hamilton writes about sex with vampires doesn’t mean she’s had sex with vampires. Though I’m sure sex with vampires is lovely. And if she chooses to do it, she shouldn’t have to answer nosy questions about it. Okay, apology accepted.
I’ll let you look at my blog, (http://dianamacarthur.com) but I’m warning you – there are excerpts from the book there. Visit at your own risk. You could follow me on Twitter (https://twitter.com/DianaMacArthur), or like my Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Diana-MacArthur-Author/271967129580492?fref=ts)
Don’t read it.
I mean it! You’re too nice to be reading stuff like that!
Sincerely,
Diana

Tuesday Teaser: Clair de Lune (guest)
I'm thrilled to have a very special Tuesday Teaser today - talented author and dear friend, the lovely Clair de Lune! She's patiently answered a bunch of questions thrown at her and once again, she's managed to make me blush. Wanna know why? Read the interview, I'm sure you can work it out... Q. What genre do you write and why?
A. My first book was contemporary BDSM erotica. When that was accepted, I had an idea for a Regency ménage mystery, which I wrote at the same time as book 2 in the “Prometheus in Chains” series. When I retired, I had time to read for the first time in years. Then, I bought a Kindle and let myself loose on Amazon. I enjoyed reading BDSM fiction and bought some factual books on the subject. When it came to writing my first book, the genre was obvious. I’d always loved the Regency period and read widely about it, both fact and fiction so the Regency novel was no surprise. What was a surprise was the ménage. I’d never written anything apart from the first two Prometheus books, so a ménage, with hindsight, seems a bit of a reach, but I enjoyed writing it and that’s what counts.
Q. Do you start with plot or characters?
A. Characters always come first, well if you can call 9 books always. With “The Locket” the triplets came into my mind and, once I’d worked out what they looked like, the heroine and her plot came next. It’s the same with the “Prometheus in Chains” series. “Initiation” had several secondary characters all with their own stories and gradually I’m writing them.
Q. Do you have a particular person, or picture of an actor or actress in mind when you describe your characters?
A. No, I don’t. I suppose that a particular type of hero and heroine appeal to me so maybe that does influence me. Master Angus has a lot of Sean Connery in him, which is no surprise to me. Mostly it’s a physical description that fits the name I’ve chosen. Llewellyn in “Reconciliation” is Welsh, so the huge rugby players, born of the mining industry with their love of singing and community had to play a part in his character.
Q. How long does it take to write a book?
A. It varies. With “Initiation” it was very quick, just a few weeks, the story meant a lot to me and it flowed. It still can be quick but it depends on how fast the story develops. If there’s a hitch, then I have to leave it and think until I get the characters, or the plot, out of the knot they’re in. Sometimes it’s as simple as sleeping on it and waking the next day with the solution, sometimes it’s redoing chapters. The more books I write the more admin I have to do and that plus real life with the concerns of family, home and garden, slows down the rate at which I can write.
Q. Does reader reaction matter?
A. Yes it does. While I write because I have a story to tell, at the end of every book I add my email address. I like to hear from my readers and answer every email and Facebook contact. I think you can learn a lot from reader reaction, and some of my readers have become friends. Even negative feedback can be helpful provided it’s constructive, as everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Q. What are you working on now?
A. I’ve just written Prometheus’s own story and I’m half way through his friend, Jack Robinson’s story. Jack is the ex-SAS friend who helps Master Eric out from time to time. I have a dragon shape-shifting series to come out in January 2013. That’s a new genre for me. During a family holiday to Moray in Scotland this year, we revisited Loch Ness. The dark waters of the loch and a line from an old song “There is a monster in Loch Ness the fact ye cannae hide” were enough to set off a train of thought and the first novel Dragon’s Mate was started on Findhorn beach, while watching my granddaughters make sand-castles.
Q. If someone hasn’t read any of your work, which book would you recommend they start with ?
A. For me “Initiation” will always be the best book to start with. Although the novels in the “Prometheus in Chains” series can be read as stand-alone books, many of the main characters for them appear in “Initiation”. It gives depth to the subsequent books if you know their back story. Each book is labelled no 1, 2 , 3, because, as a reader, I found it frustrating in the extreme trying to work out the correct order for some of the series I read.
Q. What are you reading now?
A. I have to admit I don’t have much time to read now but I just bought a copy of “Catching a Phoenix.” I loved the cover. I downloaded it to my Kindle and thought I’d just open it and read a chapter, then I couldn’t put it down. It’s a very good book, Sage, and so well written. I’ve just finished “2 Sirs for Sasha” by Cooper McKenzie. I love her Esoteria series.
Thank

Rubbing a toppy sub, a submissive Top and a Dom with attitude together is guaranteed to send sparks flying — but what will they ignite?
Meet Tyler Kane. Ballsy and headstrong, he's far from being the submissive type. Francis Hollister, Dom and proud owner of a BDSM club, couldn't agree more — and yet, as Tyler carelessly suggests a bet, Francis sees an opportunity arise and decides to take him up on it.
Soon Tyler finds himself in Francis' club and about to be trained as a sub. When Shae, the gorgeous Top Francis has assigned to teach him, doesn't appear to be quite as dominant as his role would lead to believe and Francis turns out to be a rather versatile Dom, Tyler sees a perfect match just waiting to be made happen. Too bad though that he's the only one who sees it. Or maybe he isn’t?
Curious to find out what happens when you rub a submissive Top, a toppy sub and a Dom with attitude together and what exactly the sparks from that explosive combination ignite, Tyler enlists the help of Pierce, Francis' brother, and his partner Noah, and sets out on a mission.
While Tyler's plan seems to work out astonishingly well, it seems that there's more than one man in the club who is pursuing a hidden agenda…
Reader Advisory: While this book stands alone, it features Noah and Pierce from 'Sub-Mission' and follows up on their story, so you might wish to read that first.

Snippet from "Re-Submission"
Here's a snippet from Re-Submission - this scene finds Tyler and Shae at Shae's home, shortly after Tyler overheard a mysterious visit from Francis:
When several minutes had passed and Shae still didn’t show any signs of being about to move, Tyler quietly left his watching post and went to him.
“Shae?” he whispered.
Shae jumped. “Yeah?”
“Everything all right?”
For a moment, Tyler thought Shae was crying. He looked upset enough, and there was a giveaway tightness in his voice, but his eyes were dry.
Shae rubbed his forehead. “Yeah, sure.”
“That was Francis, right?”
“Right.”
“A bit late for a social call, isn’t it?”
“Depends on your working hours, I guess,” Shae replied.
“What did he want?” Not the most discreet of approaches, but Tyler didn’t believe in pussyfooting around.
“He…” Shae glanced up at him, and for the fraction of a second, the extent of his misery showed in his eyes before he managed to get a grip on himself and shook his head. “That’s between him and me.”
“He’s not…pestering you, is he?”
“Pestering me?” Shae let out a soft chuckle at the suggestion. “Gosh, no. What makes you think that?”
“Only that he seemed to want something that you weren’t willing to give.”
“Oh. You’ve been listening.”
“Yes. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help it, what with the lack of walls and all. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t catch the details, though.”
“Good.”
“I just thought that maybe there is something you would like to talk about,” Tyler offered.
“No. Thanks, but no.”
“What’s the deal between the two of you?”
“What makes you think there was anything between us?”
“Hmm, let me think.” Tyler put on a mock thoughtful face. “You have sessions together that you don’t want the others to know about. He turns up at your place in the middle of the night and whatever he wanted from you leaves you in distress.” Placing the tips of his fingers under Shae’s chin, he made him tilt his head up to meet his eyes. “Come on, spit it out. Tell me what’s upsetting you so much.”
“It’s not…” Catching Tyler’s stern glance, Shae huffed. “Looks like it’s not just back to bed for us now, huh? Coffee?”
“Yes, please.”
Shae went to the kitchen and busied himself with the coffee machine, obviously unwilling to say more.
“So, what is it?”
“It’s just…hard sometimes,” Shae said, keeping his back turned to Tyler.
“What is?” Tyler asked again. He had a suspicion of what was going on, but he wanted to hear it from Shae. When Shae didn’t answer, Tyler went to stand behind him and put his hand on Shae’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “You love him, don’t you?”
Shae’s head snapped up and he looked gobsmacked. “L—what? I… What makes you think I…uh, that?” The expression in his eyes said everything that his mouth didn’t.
