Update

Had some good news today, not sure if I can share any details as yet so it’s just going to be listed as “good news” until I know that I can reveal more.

Reading Rick Wakemans biog, very enjoyable so far.

A bit low in the creativity arc this week, I had to really motivate myself hard to do this weeks Bradbury Challenge story.

I’m totally not feeling any urge, need or desire to write anything this week.

I may be on shutdown until next Wednesday.

Hopefully something I read, listen to, watch or see will kick-start me again.

The lows are low, but you have to take the rough with the smooth in this life.

The only thing keeping me up is knowing I can tell you about this news soon.

Be good to each other.

I’m off for a mug of hot Bovril & some toast.

Ray Bradbury Challenge, Week 14.

This weeks Bradbury Challenge story just finished, 1256 words.

I used an outline I’d come up with in mid-November of last year.

It’s not brilliant but it’s not completely awful either.

At least it’s finished.

Something I wrote 3 months ago

I make no excuses for science fiction. It needs none.

What I do for SF, I do by choice. No-one forces me to write at gunpoint.

What I write down, I do because I enjoy it. Mostly.

I could stop writing tomorrow, go back to where I was just over 2 and a half years ago and just write stories for myself.

But I won’t.

Now I’ve started writing for people other than myself I rather like it.

I’ve got enough pieces finished to release 1 per month for at least the next 2 years and then some.

I make no excuses for science fiction.

And I hope it makes none for me either.

Trouble With Youtube (As Owned By Google)

Do you keep getting that dumb “sign in to comment!” pop-up even though you’re already logged into your account?

Yeah, annoying as HELL isn’t it?

Apparently you have to log in with your Google plus details and it’ll let you post under your old Youtube ID.

I’m putting this here and on the other blog so I can remember how the heck to fix it in the future.

Google really should have fixed this crap by now, but clearly not.

They can run the most powerful search engine ever invented but not sort out a simple login recognition system.

Says a lot about them, doesn’t it?

Writing update before bed

Yes, I’m up late.

Finally! Finished my “meat-flavoured” story that I started in the last week of February. 5124 words.

Implementation & getting the bloody ending to work were the sticking points.

Fortunately I left myself a nice detailed outlined of where I wanted to go.

I’ll give it about a week then subject it to some polishing and fine touches.

Planning Out

I’ve been turning an older idea over in my head for the last few days.

It’s starting to annoy me because it has an ending which does nothing.

And that really irks me. I hate non-endings or no ending.

Stories that just trail off into THE END are super annoying.

And this idea just currently does that.

Super grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

May have to email an expert, ask for advice.

Not a writer, an expert in the field which the story is set.

No spoilers.

A poem about Will.i.am

Will.i.am or Sneaky Willie,

Tweeting glasses on his face he’s kinda silly.

He’s a millionaire & he makes cars,

Tweeting to his homies up on Mars.

Independance Day, A flash fiction story by Ray Daley

“The British are coming! The British are coming!” Paul Revere called all across the land. Rudely interupting tea in many homes.

The cry echoed across the land. “The British are coming! The British are coming!”

“Captain, if he shouts like that again I want you to go out and shoot him down like the dog he is.”

“Yes sir!”

“The British are coming! The British are coming!”

BANG.

“God Save The King!”

THE END.

Ray Bradbury Challenge, Week 13.

This weeks story just completed. 1165 words, an idea outline I’d come up with in November of last year.

Quite difficult to implent and just as hard to finish.

This weeks has been the toughest yet.

I never thought doing this would be easy, I really wasn’t feeling the muse today.

But at least this weeks story is finished and can be improved in rewrites and edits.

At least we’re done for this week.

Next big writing deadline will be Tuesday, my next free ebook release.

I’ll see you there.

Is Writing Art?

Okay. The first thing I had to do was Google the word Art.

I got this helpful gem from Wikipedia:-

Art may be characterized in terms of mimesis (its reflection of life), expression, communication of emotion, or other qualities.

Or this helpful line from Encyclopedia Britannica:-

a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.

Art is about being creative, expressing something through your chosen medium. Mine being words.

Reflecting life. Check.

Expression. Check.

Communicating Emotions. Fuck, yes.

A Visual object conciously created through skill or imagination. That’s a big check there.

Writing is probably the most visual of all art forms.

The reader has to visually interact with the art form, the writing.

The reader then creates their own visuals based on the skill or imagination of the writer.

Sounds like art to me.

So we’re not JUST writers. We’re artists as well.

Our words are the canvas, painting a picture in the mind of the reader.

So, is writing art?

YES.
