Ray Bradbury Challenge, Week 11.

Just finished this weeks Bradbury Challenge story, 844 words off an idea outline I’d written down back in January.

To those who may be concerned, having checked the rules I genuinely do NOT believe I cheated by using an old idea.

I didn’t make any rules about where ideas could come from.

This was not a fully written story, it was just an outlined idea giving vague parameters for a potential story.

It had no ending, it was in fact only 7 lines of text.

I was a bit concerned about getting any Bradbury work done at all this week due to my eye infection which has swelled up my left eyelid making it difficult to see in that eye. I have overcome this issue so will spend the rest of the day relaxing.

Writing update for today

Superman story almost done, a few more entries to do. Hoping to get it done before midnight. Probably not though, so it’ll fall along the way side again until this weeks Bradbury is finished.

New story just finished 2430 words, took about 90 mins. Not sure about the end, but then again when am I ever.

Almost there… but not quite

I am within grasping distance of FINALLY finishing “Panic Over Metropolis“, my Superman fan-fic piece I started almost exactly 2 years ago.

All that remains are the two most difficult segments to write, to get across exactly why the story needed to be told in the first place. I hope to release it as soon as I am finished.

The 4 crimes I typed up took at least a day each even though they are only entries of but a few lines apiece.

Hopefully the legal disclaimer at the end is comprehensive enough. It is ONLY fan-fic, after all.

Who’s Calling, an SF flash-fic story by Ray Daley

Who’s Calling

9/3/14

By Ray Daley

March 10, 1876.

Alexander Graham Bell made the call, the first call. “Mister Watson – come here – I want to see you.”

A few moments passed and the door opened, Thomas Watson entered. “You wanted to see me Mister Bell?” he said.

“Not I Mister Watson, but this gentleman caller. He has a request.” said Bell.

“Yes sir, how can we be of service today?” asked Watson.

“Can you go back into the other room and check all the windows are securely sealed, then come back in here and lock the door from this side. I have something amazing I want to show you both.” the man said.

Watson was gone but all of a minute, locking the door behind him as he returned. “The room is secure sir.”

“And no-one could possibly enter without being seen?” the man asked.

“Yes sir, this is the only way in.” Watson said.

“Your apparatus in the other room, what did you call it?” the man asked.

“I call it a telephone sir.” Bell replied.

“The one next door and the one in here are the only ones?” the man asked.

“That is correct sir.” Bell said.

“And the room next door is empty, that is also correct?” the man asked.

“Yes sir, I checked the room myself.” Watson said.

“Gentlemen, please listen.” the man said.

On the table, the apparatus Bell had called a telephone began to ring.

“Watson, you are certain the other room was empty?” Bell asked.

“As certain that I stand here right now sir.” Watson replied.

“So if the only other telephone that exists is in an empty locked room, who is calling us?” Bell asked.

The man reached into his pocket and the ringing stopped. “Gentlemen, I will bid you good day. And good fortune Mister Bell. I recommend you go to the patent office right now.”

The man left Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson most confused.

As he walked down the street he took a small device from his pocket.

“Hello sir, Agent One checking in as requested. Yes sir, Bell just made the call. I believe he’s on his way to the patent office as we speak. Yes sir, they were both most confused. Thank you sir, happy to help. One more thing before I return sir? How are my shares in Bell Time Travel doing today?”

THE END.

SF Writing Made Easy

How to be a Science Fiction writer with ZERO effort.

1) Google the lyrics to “Down in the Park” by Tubeway Army.

2) Steal EVERYTHING you just read.

3) Listen to the song. Steal EVERYTHING you hear.

4) In your plagiarism trial, claim Philip K. Dick made you do it.

A little something before bedtime

I just wrote and finished a story! 1586 words, golden age style SF.

Super pleased with it. Even the ending. Came so easy.

And now to kip.

Nighty night people.

Health update

I’ll post this now because there’s the chance I might be offline for the next day or two.

Having major issues with pain in left eye, some rest seems to reduce it but not completely.

I’ll check back in when I know more.

Ray Bradbury Challenge, Week 10.

I just finished writing this weeks story, it was 615 words off an image I spotted on reddit.

I wish it was longer.

Super tired now, so off to bed.

March 2, 2014

An update before bedtime.

I’ve invested my time into other writing today as I was unable to finish the story I’ve been working on for the last 3 days. I typed a few things up, posted an unfinished story here on the blog and both started and finished something from the WIP folder, writing 1915 words on something all I had for was 5 sentences roughly describing it.

Not too tough to write or finish with the info I left myself so thankyou me from 2012, you were most thoughtful. Quite unlike me!
