I Totally Missed It
You’re supposed to remember the dates of big anniversaries. I didn’t. I totally missed it. Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the publication of my novel. It wasn’t even a blip on my radar; I am wrapped up in other things and didn’t take a moment to reflect on the last year. Anniversaries are for remembering. For reflecting on what has happened since you embarked on whatever it was: marriage, children, jobs, schools, a project come to fruition, etc. I’m [...]

Déjà vu. Again. Déjà vu. Again. Déjà vu. Again.
That’s about how it goes. You have déjà vu. You think you’ve been somewhere before, known someone before, done something before. Most people have experienced an aspect of déjà vu in some way or another. “I feel like I’ve been here before.” “I feel like I’ve done that before.” “I feel like I know you from another life.” It’s not that far-fetched, really. For example, just last night I was lying in bed reading, and I had the strangest sensation [...]

Persevere
I’ve been addicted to Pinterest for the last few days. Seriously. I find it relaxing, and I’ve always loved looking at magazines. Pinterest is such a great way to share ideas, decorating tips, recipes, fashion, books, and more. If you want to see what I’m up to on there, check it out here: Pinning on Pinterest-Stephanie Verni Anyway, I found some great sayings, and I really love this one. I think it speaks to anyone who has set a goal [...]

Moved To Tears
I don’t know what it is about driving in a car by yourself with the ability to listen to whatever music you choose, but there are some songs that are so poetic, they move me to tears. I’m back to my old tricks–the hopeless romantic in me has returned. Full force. On my way up to Local Authors Day at the Bel Air Library (a 45-minute drive), I was listening to John Mayer. He’s one of my favorite artists, primarily [...]

My Own Home Office: In Need of a Makeover?
Yesterday I blogged about home office spaces and what inspires. I need a space that inspires. Since I spend a lot of time writing in there, I thought I’d go ahead and share my current space, despite the fact that I’d love to do a makeover in this room. While the desk is functional, I don’t like the color or its lack of femininity. I’d like to go with something lighter (or whiter). I do love my chandelier and clock [...]

An Inspiring White, I Mean, Right Office
I don’t know if it’s because it’s spring (yes, it is by the calendar, though no signs of warmth, chirping birds, oodles of sunshine and flowers are in sight), but I’m obsessed with writing spaces and in what types of spaces we like to work. When I talk to other writers, it’s interesting to hear what kind of space inspires him or her. Some don’t mind the mess of books and papers, chalkboards and pinboards, or piles on the floor. [...]

The Beautiful Thing About Learning
* * * First, I love BB King. My husband and I have seen him in concert. He’s fun, an amazing musician, and now, to boot, has some dear life lessons to doll out. Second, his quote is the reason I’m in education. Not only do I teach my students, but each day I am learning, too. I learn by reading, keeping up to date on my field, writing, and educating myself on things I don’t know or am not [...]

Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast?
The White Queen in Alice in Wonderland said, “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” What impossible things do we all believe in? Here are six I’ve chosen to share . . . 1—I believe in ghosts. In some form or another, I do believe they exist, and they are here not to harm, but to educate. 2—People can move objects with their minds. If you don’t believe it’s possible, see this clip from “60 [...]

The Good Salad: “Lunchtime” Weekly Photo Challenge
Today’s weekly photo challenge is “Lunchtime,” and what we have for lunch. As it’s Friday, and I’m Catholic, that means no meat. However, I will toast Pope Francis I and wish him well with my glass of wine, while I enjoy what we fondly call The Good Salad. Lettuce, grapes, green apples, and feta cheese adorn the salad. The dressing is homemade. Once you taste this dressing, you’ll never want store-bought dressing ever again! Cheers! Filed under: On Blogging Tagged: [...]

Write What You Know: Writing About My Life in Baseball & Sharing An Excerpt
After I finished writing my first independent novel, I was already working on a second, a growing-pains love story. It has a lot of potential, but midway through, I stopped and had an epiphany: Why am I not writing about something I know about? Why am I not writing about working in baseball? I tabled the other novel, and I’m over 40,000 words into my next piece of fiction. About baseball. I can’t wait to finish it. Having spent a [...]
