This Week’s Weekly Photo Challenge Word: ESCAPE
This week’s weekly photo challenge word from WordPress is ESCAPE. I typically think of escaping to a beach or relaxing somewhere near the water, but this photo is one of my recent favorites. I took it as we were heading back from Miami in November after I attended the Readers Favorite Awards Ceremony where I accepted a Bronze Medal in Contemporary Romance for my first novel, “Beneath the Mimosa Tree.” I was literally on Cloud 9, and this photo, the […]

Home Ec Class & A Conversation with My Son
The conversation I am about to relay unfolded in this manner this morning, with three surprises as the result. It went something like this: “Mommy, guess what we made this week in Home Ec?” (They call it something other than this in schools today, but I choose to ignore it…it’s termed something like Family & Consumer Science, but Home Ec works just fine for my storytelling puposes.) “What, honey?” “Eggs with turkey in these little cups. It was really good.” […]

The Neighborhood Improvement Committee
A couple of years ago when I started blogging, my friend, Currie, recommended that I take a look at a blog called “The Meanest Mom.” I took her recommendation and followed it. And I loved it. It is unfortunate, however, for those of us who enjoy being active members of the blogosphere—both reading and writing in it—to know that “The Meanest Mom” is still on hiatus, hopefully writing a book of some sort. I may be her first customer, because […]

Patterns: Showcasing My Favorite Scenery Photo
I was glad to see today’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge was entitled “patterns.” I’ve been wanting to showcase this particular photograph I took last year in Palm Beach. On a bike ride through neighborhoods, my husband and I happened upon this main entrance to a community. It’s absolutely stunning and probably my favorite scenery photo that I’ve taken to date. And you can’t help but notice the stunning arches and railing, which happen to make the most picturesque pattern. Love. […]

Accepting A Blog Award
I am very happy to accept the WordPress Family Blog award from the lovely Mandy Eve Barnett (thank you so very much for nominating me). Be sure to visit Mandy’s blog at http://mandyevebarnett.com. As a blogger for over two years with WordPress, I gladly accept and can honestly say I love this little setup I have–to be able to communicate in this forum is delightful! As I accept this award, I must now do the honors of selecting 10 […]

Happy Wife, Happy Life
In roughly three weeks, my husband and I will own a new home. I will miss the home we’ve made together. Our kids came home from the hospital in this abode, and we have lovingly made this property reflect who we are. We have carefully selected the décor that makes our house feel like our home. I’ll miss my upstairs office that’s very feminine and where I spent countless hours earning my MFA degree and writing “Beneath the Mimosa Tree.” [...]

Armed With Ideas: Thoughts on Moving
We’re moving. Some of you who know me and live near me know this already. Some blog readers may not. After four years of looking and debating, we’ve decided to take the plunge and head back to my roots in Severna Park. I couldn’t be more delighted. We tend to want to recreate for our own children the fond memories we have of our own upbringing—days spent on the Magothy River, hanging at the Ulmstead pool and beach, playing in [...]

I’ve Had A Lot On My Mind
Lately, writing has been way, way down on the TO DO LIST. I’ve been far too busy and absorbed in other things to make time to write a blog post. While it may seem to many that writing a blog post takes as much effort as flushing a toilet, on the contrary, it takes thought, patience, and the ability to carve out the time for it. The truth is, I’ve had a lot on my mind, and it hasn’t been [...]

KEEP CALM Humor
Yeah, sure, easy for you to say. But what about writer’s block? What do you do then? What if you have lots of things to write about, but can’t bring yourself to write it? What then, KEEP CALM? What do we do then? Shop? Maybe. So for now, I’d rather KEEP CALM and Carrie On. For Writers & People Facing Change
Sometimes I see something that makes me stop and pause. This saying did it for me today. As a writer, blogger, professor, and a believer in a positive vision for the future, I love the meaning of this quote. Too often, we hold on to the past, when sometimes, what we need to do, is just look to the future. We are all guilty of doing it at some point in our lives. * * * Photo credit: Tumblr.com, best [...]
