This guy wrote a 3.5k word dissertation on Bloodborne based only on watching Twitch

As we all know, I can be a bit wordy, so when some dude at Forbes writes an introspective, 3500+ word dissertation on the metaphysical merits of Bloodborne (and video games as one-way entertainment) afterwatching over 200 hours of twitch videos, well, you can countme in. Click the link.

One other note, when did Forbes become the goto site for though-provoking articles on video gaming and pop-nerd-culture? Because I find myself ending up there more and more. This Thomsen guy is a solid writer...

Is AI MIA?

There’s been a lot of talk recently about AI being super-scary and that it represents one of humanity’s greatest risks. This has been mentioned, with almost hyperbolic sincerity, by Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking. While that might happen someday, the current state of AI is simply not there.

Google search, while impressive, isn’t “thinking”. At it’s heart, Google search is searching through a bunch of big lists, looking for some key terms and returning associated results. Then, periodically,tho...

DLC coming for Bloodborne

Oh, great, I get to torture myself even more later this year. Just what I need. I’ve never had such a love/hate relationship with a game.

B.B. King Has Died

Way back in 1998, I waited with my friends Rob and Piner backstage at a B.B. King concert to meet the blues legend. I don’t recall which one of us had heard the rumor that, if you waited long enough, B.B. allowed people into his dressing room after the show—whichever one of us uncovered that nugget of information was spot-on. Huddled with less than a dozen other hopefuls, we stood around shivering in the damp cold of a foggy San Luis Obispo night until the magical side door of our newly-const...

No Man’s Sky — Biggest Game Ever?

I just heard about this PS4 (timed) exclusive today. Apparently it’s an indie-ish, never-ending, procedurally-generated, exploration and space-combat game. Or something like that–it’s being kept somewhat under wraps. According to the Sony guy from this article, Sony is banking on it for the holidays since both Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted 4 have been delayed. Check out the vid below for a look at the scale of the game. What say you, J, yay or nay?

Witcher 3 gameplay–should I be excited about this?

It looks pretty, well, pretty. Is this a good game? I think one and two were PC only, I think I recall hearing good things about them. Maybe. I suddenly feel like the PS4 has a bunch of games when just a few months ago it had none. Thoughts?

Konami, Hideo Kojima, and Chinese Head Transplants

Let’s talk about Konami: Konami has been in the news that past few days (and months, really) due to major upheaval in their video game divisionand questions about their overall business strategy. Konami is a large, multi-national corporation based out of Japan. They create all kinds of entertainment… uh, things. Things like slot machines, and trading cards, and toys, and, of course, video games. According to Wikipedia, the company was originally founded as a Jukebox repair business in ’69 (b...
