Short Story: The Boy in the Window

Snowflakes fall and his breath swirls in the cold winter air as a boy stares through an old man’s window and the magic of words come to life before his eyes.

The man closes the book and the images fade. Andrew realizes he’s late for dinner and rushes home to tell his mother of the fantastical images he was able to see.
Things take a turn for the worse, however, when he realizes his drunk, abusive father is home from the coal mines and waiting for him when he gets there. Now Andrew must face t...

Teaching a Creative Writing Class

Large Ornate Door in Dallas, Texas. How did I find myself teaching a creative writing class?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been teaching a creative writing to a small group of kids in a homeschool coop group we’re a part of. We get together every Friday and teach various classes, from scripting in python to building with Legos, from cooking creations to outdoor survival and forensics, to… well.. creative writing, and so much more. Our kids love it and I’m so glad we’re a part of such an amazing group.

To be honest, this is the f...

Can you see the Milky Way from the Space Station?

I Found Myself Asking, “Can You See the Milky Way from the Space Station?”

I had just written a passage in Chapter 27 of Final Hope where one of my main characters, Julia Holland, is traveling to the space station. This is where the final ramp up of the Chlorophyllium Project is taking place. That’s when I realized something. I’ve never been to our modern-day space station. Was I failing to represent reality? I had no idea whether Earth reflected enough light to pollute the Milky Way landscap...

I’m No Longer Providing That Content

There are times in our lives when we must ask ourselves, ‘Why am I here?’

You are probably here because you’ve either clicked on a link that leads to content I’ve decided to stop providing, or you are browsing around my site and stumbled on this post. You see, I too had to ask myself the very same question. Please, I know you’re busy and you were probably looking for something else, but keep reading, because this is important.

Why am I here?

To answer that question, I’d like to tell you a li...

Template: How to Complete WGU Taskstream Assignments

R Brady Frost WGU Graduation

Okay, so this isn’t a writing update, but I had this post with a link to my Taskstream Template I created when I attended WGU up on my old blog and it helped some folks out, so I’m re-posting it. Nothing wrong with keeping that goodwill going.

Western Governors University is a great school. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. The competency-based learning model provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter without confining you to a time-based schedu...

Blog: Lessons Learned From Starting Over

Some Postmortem Blog Lessons:

Looking back all these years since I first started blogging in 2008, I would like to think I’ve learned a thing or two. Unfortunately, some of those hard lessons learned come at the cost of messing up. That’s exactly where I find myself right now.

I’ve been trying to fill in the main pieces to this site over the past few days and I thought I’d take a look at the wayback machine on archive.org to see if there were any good posts I could salvage. But, as it turns o...
