Chicken Noodle Soup?

Oh my gosh. I am so sick! It seems like I am catching bug after bug. Last week it was stomach aches and the flu and this week it seems to be in my lungs. That's a big weak spot for me ever since my time in the military.

Christy Parks: At what point do we stop revising?
I was bouncing around the web this evening when I came across a blog post by Christy Parks. In her post she wrestled with a question that nearly every author must face: at what point do you leave a story alone and let it stand on its own? The compulsion for continual revision is a basic instinct. As we become better writers we begin to realize the flaws in our previous work. This can result in feelings of shame towards pieces we were once proud to show off.

Writing Short Stories

Sometimes I find myself questioning why I bother writing short stories when I see myself as more of an aspiring novel writer. The answer to that question is a simple one: I'm afraid.

A Writer's Research
I have read a lot of 'How-to-Write' type books. I've bought even more. I have more than an entire shelf in my closet. If you added it all up, I think there's probably over 3-400 dollars worth of information, narrative, name dropping, and useless advice just sitting there. Even though I bought all those books, read most of them, and hoped for some magic answer, I didn't *poof* into some super publishing powerhouse. No one asked me to pose for the cover of a magazine.
