Thrilling and Unique!

Lovely review for my medical thriller, Coma Confidential:

Jane 5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling and Unique!July 31, 2019
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase Telling a story from the point of view of a comatose patient is such an original and brilliant idea, especially since the main character, Ash, has no idea what’s going on and we as readers unravel this mystery bit by bit with her. The book kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly trying to guess what would happen next, and I found it difficult to put it down. Plus, I love plot twists and strong female characters! There were a few instances in the book that sounded a tad unrealistic to me, but all in all a great read and highly recommended!

Embark on a journey

If you like ancient historical fiction about court intrigue, this series of king David novels has a modern twist like no book you have read before. The box set includes three volumes:
Rise to PowerHere is the story of David as you have never heard it before: from the king himself, telling the unofficial version, the one he never allowed his court scribes to recount. Rooted in ancient lore, his is a surprisingly modern memoir.Notorious for his contradictions, David is seen by others as a gifted court entertainer, a successful captain in Saul’s army, a cunning fugitive, a traitor leading a gang of felons, and a ruthless raider of neighboring towns who leaves no witnesses behind. But how does he see himself, during this first phase of his life?
A Peek at BathshebaThe most torrid tale of passion ever told: David's forbidden love for Bathsheba, and his attempt to cover up the scandal. Will he muster the strength needed to protect her and save their son from danger?
The Edge of RevoltDavid loves his sons. The last thing he expects is that they will topple him from the throne. Who among them will remain by his side? Who will be not only loyal, but also eager to continue his legacy? For now, David remains silent, even as Amnon rapes Tamar, even as Absalom lures Amnon to his death. In families other than his, such crimes may be concealed. But when they occur in the king’s family, they affect matters of the state, and result in his escape from the son he adores. Will he finds a way to quell the revolt and come back to the City of David?

The David Chronicles: TrilogyPaperback: Amazon

I love this series for its convincing depiction of real people in ancient times, for its unflinching honesty, and for its vividly real characters. This David is no cardboard cutout to be filled in with bright crayoned colors. His Bathsheba is no plaything. And his women will take their place on the stage of history, will have their voice, and will cry out for love and hate and hope."

Just snuggle up a little closer

A cloud drifted over across the horizon, shielding the sun, and now I could see: her white and black polka-dotted dress was neatly gathered around the waist by a black linen belt. In the evening breeze, dots were flapping against her hips, dancing around her knees. The fabric was crimped, however, which suggested to me that at the last minute, just before coming ashore, she must have taken the dress out of the suitcase and changed into it, with no time to take care of the creases, to smooth them. I imagined she was eager to look her prettiest for someone, a special someone she was expecting to meet. What’s the matter with you, I asked myself. What game are you playing? A spy? A private investigator?Strangely, the closer I got to her the more pronounced was the thumping of my heart. I quickened my step, crossing through a sudden gust of air, in which I caught not only the smell of the ocean but also a whiff of perfume. Somehow it reminded me of Natasha’s, except that in her case, the only purpose for which she used it was to dab the corner of an envelope, when sending a letter to me. “Hello!” I said, trying to strike a conversation with this stranger. “I heard it was a difficult journey.”Just then, the wind grew stronger. It lifted the hat into a tilt and for just an instant, revealed a glint, the red glint of a curl. At once she caught the brim, set the hat properly back in place—but not before I noticed the rosy blush. Burning suddenly with desire I reached for her hand. Instead of taking it, Natasha wrapped her arms around me, coming into mine. Speechless, I embraced her. “Oh, Lenny,” she said, her voice so soothing, so velvety, just as I remembered it. “Just snuggle up a little closer.”

The Story of David as told by himself

Lovely review for my historical fiction trilogy, The David Chronicles: Trilogy:

Susan C Hutchinson 5.0 out of 5 stars The Story of David as told by himselfJuly 29, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition Uvi Poznansky delivers an excellent retelling of the Biblical story of David in the David Chronicles, a trilogy told in an autobiographical form, with David as the narrator in Rise to Power, A Peek at Bathsheba and The Edge of Revolt. Poznansky ‘s gift of descriptive language takes you through David’s life, from his youth as a musician and entertainer, to the killing of Goliath, through his ascension as King to his final days. Written in modern language, David is portrayed as the flawed human being he was, yet you feel a bond to him because of that. The author is a master of storytelling and draws you along with David on the journey of his life.

Mom steps in from the shadow behind the mirror

I gasp, for there she is: mom steps in from the shadow behind the mirror. Even if I try, I cannot grasp her. She advances slowly until she is standing right here, a few steps removed from the bed, tired, covered with a fine layer of dust, the dust of a long travel. By now it has caked on her face, because of the sweat that has already dried up. And in that crust, a crack here, a crack there bring out the crow feet by the corners of her eyes. There is a stack of sheet music in her hands, which mom lets scatter in her path across the floor. Perhaps by now she has grown weary of her journey. I imagine it has been a while since she heard an ovation, since she took her bow in front of a crowd. And now, somewhere out there, a kid must be playing, practicing notes which are drifting in through the open window, out of sequence, confused. She is wavering in her mind whether she should stay here, in this bedroom—which is hers after all—or walk out the door. Finally, her exhaustion weighs in. Mom looks around her for a quiet place, and as if she were a stranger, she tiptoes—so as not to disturb—to the corner of this bed, where she turns her back to the two of them. Her weight makes barely a dent on the mattress. She curls herself, tightening her arms over her knees and interlacing her fingers, which helps her keep loneliness away. Then she starts falling asleep, in the same place where the monogram—Natasha over Leonard—used to be. It is then that I open my eyes and walk out of the room, closing the door behind me as softly and as gently as I can.

Couldn't put it down!

She eventually hears her name, Ashley, and begins to remember some things. Other things she hears in conversations going on around her. Someone had beaten her badly enough to put her in this situation, but who and why? These are the things Ash and hopefully the police must find out. This thriller drew me in and kept me reading from beginning to end. I definitely want to read more from this author!

When we arrive, I hope we’ll find each other.

There is a deep sigh, as if he’s heard me. Then, his voice says:
There is nothing more enjoyable than working side by side with you, Ash, as we have been doing in my garage. If you were here—or at least, if I knew you’d be coming back—that’s what I’d do all day long.
Yes, I know exactly what he means. We would get so immersed in the Virtual Reality world he’s created, that getting out of it would be not only difficult but close to unthinkable.
But now—in your absence—I’m thinking of going in an entirely different direction. What it is, I don’t yet know. A large military ops corporation wants to purchase the Virtual Reality model we have been developing in recent months. At this point, I’m inclined to accept their offer and then, turn over a new leaf.
Yes, I whisper. You are about to embark on a new journey, and so am I. Here’s to new beginnings. I hope we’ll find a new destination. And when we arrive, I hope we’ll find each other.

A great page turner!

Great review for my thriller,  Virtually Lace :

Renee Arthur 5.0 out of 5 stars A great page turner!July 27, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition Ash and Michael are back, finally reconnecting. They used to create vertical reality programs in his garage. Michael's regular job, which also has to do with virtual reality, is becoming a real pain and Ash isn't working right now. When a beautiful woman, Lace, disappears going down to the beach, Michael finds her murdered. He really doesn't want to tell the police about it and immediately become a suspect. Instead he created a virtual reality scene to try and figure out the murder. Michael really wants to figure this murder out and Ash decides to become a temporary model for Michael's weird friend, Bull, to see what he's really up to. This suspenseful mystery is artfully written and I was immediately drawn into it. Pardon the pun. I love the two main characters and love to hate a few others. The minor characters are a big plus too. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommended it. It's definitely a page turner.

By listening to me, you’re putting yourself in harm’s way

Meanwhile in the video, Susan clears her throat.“I have little time and a whole lot to share with you,” she says. “First and foremost, this is between us. You may suspect that I’m jealous of you. And maybe part of me is, the part that has been in love with him, ever since we met, ten years ago, in Varanasi, India. But now, this love is dying. So, it is with regret that I must reach out to you—whoever you are—and beg you to beware of who he is.”Susan lays a limp hand over her heart. “In part, my regret is for myself, because without question, I will be at least overdosed, if not dead, if this video has found its way, as I hope, into your hands. I can’t help but grieve for myself, knowing I’m about to lose it, lose my life.” “But even more than that,” she says, “my regret is for you, my successor, my supposed enemy, my never-to-see friend. Yes, my regret is for you, because by listening to me, you’re putting yourself squarely in my place, which is to say, in harm’s way.”“Perhaps you have the urge to shut me off, or at least to ignore what I’m about to say. But listen you must, because even if you don’t believe it, you’re already much too close to danger.”Susan gathers herself up with a little jolt. Clearly, she is startled by the ding-dong of a doorbell somewhere in the background. “Oh no, I have no more time,” she whispers. “Consider yourself warned.”Her fingers, coming in to grip the cellphone, obscure part of the view, but in the space between them I catch sight of her footfalls, going somewhat unsteadily out of the den and along the corridor. She must be heading towards the entrance. Here, at last, is the threshold. Sunlight starts slanting over it as the door sways open. It is then that Susan draws a quick breath and just before handing the cellphone over into someone’s hand, just before the eye of its camera is swallowed into darkness, she utters her last sentence.“Neil is my undoing. Make sure he isn’t yours.”
