The Snarkology: MERMEN by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff @GoddessFish #Romance
From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
These Mermen Don’t Have Tails, They’re Deadly as Hell, and They’ve Got Something He Wants…
INFAMOUS BACHELOR and SELF-MADE BILLIONAIRE ROEN DORAN IS A BASTARD. Yes, he knows it. And no, he doesn’t care. He’s got money and power, and he depends on no one. But when his estranged father dies, willing him a secret island, Roen will come face to face with an even bigger secret: its occupants. And these savage, sea-obsessed warriors are quick to make their position clear: Leave now or die.
There’s only one problem. Nobody tells Roen what to do. Ever. Oh, and one other thing. He’s just met the island’s other new “guest” and something about her brings out his possessive side.
SOLE SHIPWRECK SURVIVOR LIV STRATTON had been adrift at sea for ten grueling days when salvation miraculously appeared: an uncharted island. Only, the deceivingly beautiful men who live there aren’t interested in saving her. No, not at all. Because they somehow believe she is their property, a gift from the ocean to do with as they please. This is not good.
Her only hope? Billionaire Roen Doran, of all people. A man who’s said to care for nothing and no one. But if he’s so heartless, then why is he about to risk everything to help her?
NOTE FROM MIMI ABOUT MERMEN: Anyone who has read the Accidental Series or King knows I love to flip things on their heads. Mermen is no exception. THIS IS NOT A FLUFFY STORY ABOUT men with fins and tails who sweep ladies off their feet and make them long to be mermaids. Uh-uh. This is NOT that kind of story. Nobody in their right mind would want to hang out with these very beautiful yet dangerous men (who don’t actually have tails, fins, or gills, by the way) NOR would anyone want to be their mates. Well, at least, not me! Run. Away!!
Hope you enjoy the ride. – MIMI

Excerpt:
Two large hands popped from the water and gripped the side of the raft. If she’d had the strength to gasp, she would’ve. The man’s face appeared just inches from hers, and it was exquisite—short black beard and dark-green eyes surrounded by long lashes. Ropes of wet black hair snaked down his deeply bronzed, powerful-looking shoulders.
“How the fuck did you get here, woman?” he growled while studying her, his thick lips lacking any sign of warmth or reassurance.
Of course, she didn’t have the mental clarity to respond.
“Well,” he said, “if you live, maybe you’ll save me from the Collection—waste of fucking time.”
Liv now had no doubt in her mind that she was still hallucinating. Large, beautiful men didn’t paddle around in the middle of the ocean and strike up random conversations.
Bump.
The man’s body jerked to one side. He winced and then glanced over his shoulder before being yanked beneath the surface.
Oh shit. Oh shit. The shark. She used her last ounce of energy to flip to her stomach. There was no sign of her manly hallucination, but red liquid clouded the water, encircling the raft. She wanted to scream, but she could barely swallow let alone make a sound.
Large bubbles surfaced next to her, and then the man’s head reappeared.
He half-gasped half-growled. “Fucking shark. Bit my ankle.” He swung his arm and flung a large gray mass right into her raft.
Whatthefuck? The shark flopped around, the lower half of its jaw missing and gushing blood.
Liv stared, unable to believe there was a ten-foot shark bleeding out in her raft.
“And now we’ve got dinner.” The man smiled at her, but it was a cold, calculating sort of smile that didn’t touch his eyes. “By the way, welcome to El Corazón.”

ABCs of Book Marketing: Blog Hops 1-2-3 or Tips for Herding Authors
Over the last couple years, I’ve organized three blog hops. I’ve learned a lot from each one and the process has grown progressively smoother. The purpose of this post is to document what I’ve learned for posterity and also so I don’t forget.
What is a Blog Hop?
Basically, a blog hop is a multi-platform event sponsored by authors for readers. Blog hops are almost always themed. Per the name, author blogs have traditionally participated. However, I’ve more recently seen author websites and even Facebook pages taking part. A grand prize is offered as well as individual prizes. Readers are provided access to a Linked List of participating blogs and urged to “Follow the Hop”. A hop lasts more than one day. Five or six days seem to be most common.
Now, you might wonder why would I, as an author, want to participate in a hop? In simple terms, it’s a cheap and simple means of improving your site’s traffic and also introducing new readers to your books. During the last hop I participated organized, traffic across The Snarkology increased by an average of 2-fold most days and 4-fold on the first day of the event.
Organizing a hop:
(I’m not going to lie. Hops are time-consuming and they can be aggravating, especially if you’re not sure what you’re doing. But they’re also an inexpensive, fun, and effective marketing tool.)
1. Hop organization starts with signups. The easiest method is typically via a Google Document. With any hop, there are four essential pieces of information you need to collect:
a) Author’s name
b) Author’s email address
c) Name of the author’s site
d) URL of the author’s site
After all this information is collected and signups are closed, be sure to keep the master list up-to-date with any changes in participant info.
2. Use the signup spreadsheet to build the Linked List.
a) I prefer Simply-Linked because it’s free but there are other Linky List platforms out there. Some are paid.
b) The Linked List offers a signup form you may be tempted to use as an alternative to Google Docs. Word of advice: don’t. You’ll save yourself a headache later if you personally enter and test every single link to make sure it’s valid.
c) Simply-Linked provides some Java script HTML code that can be copied and pasted into most WordPress sites to show the up-to-date list. This is desirable because the software automatically distributes changes across the Internet. If a participant changes their url or drops out, changes are implemented seamlessly without the hop mistress having to send out a hundred emails.
However, at the time of this post, there are two issues with Simply-Linked to be aware of:
WordPress.com sites don’t support Java script so the HTML code won’t work.
Blogger supports the HTML but the Linked List won’t show in the preview mode. The post has to publish before it becomes visible.
d) Every participant in the hop must receive and post the HTML to the linked list or the URL to the landing page.
3. Work around Linked List issues by setting up a Hop Landing Page.
I typically create a Hop Landing Page on my Blog and then pass out the direct URL to participants to link to so readers have access to the Linked List.
4. Create a Hop banner.
Hop banners can be made in a variety of sizes for use on sidebars and advertising in other social media. You can either commission banners from a graphic design artist or ask around to see if any of the hop participants have the skills and willingness to donate a set of banners. Every participant blogger must post the hop banner.
Below is a sample banners used in a prior hop.

Artwork by Shawntelle Madison
5. Ask for volunteers.
I’ve never had any difficult obtaining volunteers who help verify that complete and complaint posts are up the first day of the hop. Also, ask your helpers to check their assigned blogs at least one more time during the week.
A fair division of labor looks something like:
Total number of participating blogs / Total number of volunteers
As a rule, I don’t like to assign more than five or six blogs to a volunteer. If the ratio got higher than that, I’d ask for more volunteers.
6. The hopwide grand prize contest is the engine that drives your hop.
a) Begin by setting up another Google Document to collect the names, email addresses, and buy in amounts of those interested in donating.*
*Some hops have a mandatory minimum donation. Others are completely voluntary. I prefer to keep the donation voluntary so authors who are experiencing financial hardship aren’t excluded. Ultimately, it’s up to the hop planner.
b) Announce the grand prize buy in to your participating authors and ask them to fill out the form. A $5 donation toward the kitty is a common buy in amount.* Each buy in gives the author one option/action for readers to perform in order to achieve an entry.
*Funds can easily be collected via Paypal. Remember to remind folks that you’re their friend and/or second cousin to avoid those crazy fees.
Examples of buy in options:
Support the author on Amazon
Join the author’s email list
Follow the author on Twitter
Tweet a message
Follow on Goodreads
Warning: Facebook has been counting incoming “Likes” from Rafflecopter as click-farming and deleting them. I’d advise your authors not to include any Facebook Pages for liking because it’s essentially a wasted option now.
c) Rafflecopter is the popular go-to option for hop wide giveaways.
Set up your Rafflecopter and ask your participating authors to verify their own entries.
d) Rafflecopter will provide HTML code for distribution to blogs. The code with pull the giveaway through to the blog so all prizes and entry options will be visible. Alternatively, Rafflecopter will also provide a URL to link to where readers can go to enter the grand prize giveaway. Once the hop is complete and winners are chosen, the Rafflecopter can also be used to display the winners.
e) Every participant blogger should receive and post the Rafflecopter HTML or URL.
7. Close signups at least a week prior to the start of the hop.
You’ll need the time for administrative tasks. There’s a lot to do without trying to stay on top of new people joining at the last minute.
8. Along the way, send out informative emails at regular intervals.
Communication is key. Be sure to let your participants know what’s going on and what’s expected of them. Repetition is also important. Email will be missed, go into spam folders, etc. I also like to double-post the information to a private hop-related social media group when the option is available.
9. What should a blog post include?
a) A hop post must include:
The Hop Banner
The Rafflecopter HTML or a link to the Rafflecopter URL
The Linked List HTML or a link to Hop Landing Page
b) A hop post may include (optionally):
An entertaining article
A book spotlight
An site specific giveaway
Information about the author
10. Promote your hop across various social media!
11. Have fun!
Every October I run The Snarkology Halloween Hop. Anyone interested in learning more, please consider following my blog via email. There’s a signup to follow the Snarkology via email on the left sidebar at the top.

Sheriff Talon Garde has way too much on his plate. Humans have breached shifters’ carefully guarded privacy and are about to go public. If he can’t stop them, what happened to Gretchen’s father is going to be the least of everyone’s worries.
More importantly, despite Talon’s rep as a bad ass alpha whose growl strikes fear in the hearts of criminals, Gretchen’s scent makes him go all squishy inside. She’s THE ONE, he’s sure of it. There’s just that small matter of convincing Gretchen it’s pointless to fight fate…and surviving the way she fights it.

“What was that?” She pushed at Talon’s shoulders, trying to get him to pay attention.
“Huh? What was what?” He mumbled the words into her breast and then swallowed more of her nipple, his tongue going back and forth over the tip.
“Talon,” she said, fighting not to succumb to the delicious sensations Talon had stirred in her body.
“Yeah, say that again,” he said, his voice thick with lust. He’d given up on her belt and was now trying to cram his hand down her pants.
An animal chuffed in the dark, the sound as derisive as a human snort. The hair on the back of Gretchen’s neck stood up and a shiver crept up her spine. There was no mistaking that sound. A shifter was out there, watching them and thinking it was funny.
“Come on, sheriff.” Not knowing what else to do, Gretchen whacked Talon on the head.
He winced and ducked. “Ow. Why do you keep hitting me?”
“Because when there’s no blood in your brain, it stops working. I’m just giving you a little kick-start, so pay attention. Please.”

History/Mythology of Werewolves

Werewolf and his wolf pack
For as long as man has had conscious thought there has been a fascination with the supernatural. Vampires, fairies, witches, sprites and werewolves are just a few of the creatures that populate stories dating back to our oral tradition. What many people fail to realize is the fact that people were tried and executed around the world for lycanthropy, (being a werewolf) in much the same manner as witches and in some places vampires.
Since stories of the werewolf are so widespread and begin before written records were kept it is impossible to pinpoint the exact time or story that started it all. However, you can get a sense of where and why such stories may exist in the first place.
Wolf Connection
One thing that has been noted about the reports of werewolves is the presence of real wolves. If you look at the myths and legends, you will find areas not populated by wolves have stories about humans changing into hyenas (Africa), tigers (China) and foxes (Japan).
Early civilizations were primitive and did not afford the protections we enjoy today, which means if wolves were present people lived in constant danger. In some areas, it has been said villagers commonly awoke to find the fields strewn with body parts of neighbors and friends. Grizzly scenes such as this were likely fodder for the imagination and resulted in a variety of werewolf story beginnings.
Man’s Base Nature

Wolf howling at the moon in the midnight
It has been hypothesized by some that the idea of the werewolf came about to explain the baser nature of humanity. In fact, in the 16th century teenagers who wandered around breaking curfew and getting into trouble on the island of Guernsey (off the coast of France) were referred to as werewolves. The fact that some would disguise themselves as animals to travel to different communities likely fueled the stories of real werewolves, and it is probably no coincidence that we are talking about adolescence.
Think about the transformation that takes place during puberty. Young men and women experience both physical and psychological transformations, over which they have no control. Is the myth of the werewolf simply a way to understand the human struggle to come to terms with and overcome a more primitive nature? One other interesting tidbit is the lunar shifting. It is commonly held that a female truly begins her journey to womanhood with the onset of menstruation, a monthly occurrence. Is it significant that many times in folklore the werewolf transformation occurs on a full moon, which occurs monthly?
Fun Werewolf “Facts”
The facts about werewolves will vary depending on the originating myth, but here are a few of the most popular beliefs:
Transmitted via a bite from a werewolf
Can be a curse for bad deeds or reward for good
Silver may kill or merely impair a werewolf
Wolfs bane – mildly irritating
Werewolves are born via a mating including at least one werewolf parent
Deals with the devil can garner a belt which allows shifting to wolf form
Supernaturally strong
Uncontrollable rage when in wolf form

Enslaved feline shifter, Josephine Young, has learned the hard way not to believe in anything or anyone—not men, not love, and certainly not the blood-sucking mistress who tossed her into the cage with the hungry beast she’d betrayed. But Josephine does what she must to survive, including tempting the dominant werewolf to give her more than promises.
Imprisoned for their blood, Jared and Josephine fight for survival and discover a passion that neither can walk away from. Can these two predators survive long enough to prove that cats and dogs can be more than enemies?

The Snarkology: The Lady Mentor by G.E. Taylor #Romance
The Lady Mentor
When beautiful Joanna Huntington left the law firm of Petersberg, Ryan and Cole, she never dreamed the storm would force her into the path of the car driven by Vaughn Gordon, the man whom she thought she would never see again. Coming face –to- face with Vaughn at the hospital brought back memories of their first encounter when she‘d lived in Chester. How she’d boldly asked Vaughn to kiss her after she’d sensed the attraction between them was mutual. His touch made her forget any cautious teachings she’d heard and his kisses had sent so much heat flowing through her that every cell in her body clamored for his full possession. But now she wanted to hide.
Vaughn had everything he wanted, except the woman of his dreams. Joanna had been marked off limits, not because she was biracial and he was white but because that was demanded of him. He agreed to back off…for a time. But then she disappeared. Now here she was lying before him possibly hurt.
Fate would not be so cruel to take her from him again just when he found her.

“At last,” said Vaughn’s deep voice.
Joanna was so shocked she flopped down into the nearest chair.
“Are you there, Joanna?”
She cleared her throat. “Yes, I’m here. What can I do for you?” she asked, politely while her heart raced away like an unstoppable train.
“I take it you have fully recovered from the accident?”
“Yes. And it’s not necessary for you to continue to call.”
“It’s not necessary?”
“No. As a matter of fact, I wish you wouldn’t. I think you should forget you ran into me. Forget you saw me.”
“But I can’t do that,” came the husky reply. “We’ve been over this already, Joanna. Please have dinner with me this evening.”
“Now, why would I do that when I just told you−−−?”
“Joanna, I’m picking you up this evening. I’m not playing the waiting game anymore. If you’re not ready when I get there, it will be my pleasure to personally dress you.”
Arrogant bastard! “Why don’t you go harass someone else? I’m sure that banker’s daughter wouldn’t mind. Both of you look like a nice little couple in the papers.”
“I don’t mess around with married women, which she is now. At the time, I was asked to escort her to the function. Besides, I want to be with you, no one else.”
Well, he’d told her he would not waste time, and apparently he’d meant it. He was moving forward with the relationship. Truthfully, she wanted to see him again. They had a lot of unfinished business. Some she couldn’t make go away. Having dinner with him should give her some answers.
“Joanna, is eight okay?”
“Yes, that will be fine. Where are we going?”
“Downtown Newark, to the Neck, to one of the Spanish restaurants. You liked Spanish food, as I recall.”
“You remembered,” she stated quietly, blown away that he would remember such a small thing about her after all this time.
“There’s very little I don’t remember about you, Joanna. Give my regard to your lovely mother, and I’ll see you at eight.”
She replaced the phone in its cradle thoughtfully, a deep frown creasing her brows. There was no going back now. Truth be told, she was excited and was actually looking forward to being with him. There was no denying the fact that nobody else made her heart race with such speed or sing with such joy. The time spent away from him made her body even more responsive to him. She craved his touch and felt so alive when she was with him. She didn’t want to look too deeply into why. She only knew that from the first day they’d met, something special, magical was between them. Apparently that had not changed.
As Katherine entered the apartment, she sensed a change, and she looked at Joanna seated on the chair. “Is everything all right, Joanna?” she asked anxiously.
“Yes. I’m going to dinner with Vaughn tonight.”
“Are you sure this is what you want to do?”
Joanna understood this was no ordinary question.
About G.E. Taylor
I became hooked on reading romance novels during my teen years and my attempt at writing began in high school. All of my manuscripts were mailed under my bed. Eventually, I threw out most of them. That was painful especially since I’d hand written them first, then typed them on my old typewriter.
In college I majored in English but ended up with a Master in Social Work and a Master in Education.
Though I had these different career paths, I never gave up my passion for writing. Now I’m much more committed to it and writing full time. I’ve drawn on my years of practicing social work to give my work authenticity and realism.
I live in New Jersey with my family.

Her skin prickled with exposure to the cool air as his strong hands moved slowly up both legs. Henri focused on her hips, kneading out tension she always held there. But the innocent nature of the moment was long gone. The sensation of his strong hands on her made her want to lift up and expose herself to him. If he didn’t watch it she was going to come right here against this silly massage table.
“Let’s turn you over,” he said as he held the blanket up modestly, which made her chuckle. He’d been close enough to finger her a few minutes ago and she wouldn’t have stopped him either so why the sudden propriety now?
She lay on her back as he sat next to her and took her arm on his lap, working through her shoulder tightness. When her fingers brushed up against what was an unmistakable hard on under his shorts, she gasped and pulled her hand away.
“Sorry,” she whispered, mortified.
“It’s okay.”
Henri put her arm back in place so he could continue to work his way down to her hand, which he caressed finger by finger and into her palm in a way that caused her breathing to quicken.
When he closed his lips over her index finger and sucked, her entire body zinged in response. He paid the same careful attention to each digit and ended with a light lick to the center of her palm, nearly sending her over the edge.
She was panting by the time he switched over to her other arm. She left her hand in his lap and brushed her fingers ever so lightly across the silky fabric of his shorts, just to see how he’d react. He shifted closer to allow her more contact and she stroked his full length twice before he took that hand to give it the same thorough and firm caress. By the time he closed his lips over her finger again, nothing prepared her for the fire of emotion and pure need his lips and tongue ignited.
Henri placed her arms under the blanket and passed a very light hand over her nipples, now hard buds of flesh poking through the fabric. Her breath came in shaky gasps by the time he uncovered one leg and propped her foot against his naked chest. She gaped at his amazing muscle definition as he bent her knee to flex her hip. With each bend, his arm came in direct contact with her bare pussy.
Henri kneaded the flesh of her thigh before moving down to rub each toe, then the sole of her foot, which sent those same zinging, nerve rattling sensation straight up to the top her head. She stretched her hands over her head and allowed the blanket to fall away. Eyes closed, she reveled in the pure sensation of his touch. By the time he switched over to her other leg and placed her foot on his chest again, a low moaning sound had begun in in her throat and had to force herself not to grab him and pull him on top of her. He stretched her knee towards her chest.
“You’re very flexible, yes?” His voice was hoarse.
“Yes,” she breathed, tilting her hips up to make contact with his arm.
The last time he bent her knee she felt his tongue flick her nipple. She realized he was pulling the sheet off her completely and she gave no resistance. Raising her arms up over her head again, Grace stretched like a cat in the windowsill.
She heard him make a sound deep in his throat before he ran his strong hands from her shoulders down to her nipples and across her stomach. He stopped to knead her hips once more then kept moving down her thighs to her calves and then to her sensitized feet. She arched up and gasped as she felt his tongue again, this time right on her clit. He teased her flesh then sucked briefly before standing up.
Grace kept her eyes closed, her body was on fire, every nerve ending crying out for more. But he seemed to be done so she struggled up to a seated position.
“”Would you like a bit more? An internal massage, perhaps?”
“Yes,” she nearly yelled out then felt herself blush. “I mean…that’s sort of a lame line, though.”
He chuckled. “I’ll work on my lines a little, after this.” His low, accented voice made her shiver.

Amazon best-selling author, mom of three, Realtor, beer blogger, brewery marketing expert, and soccer fan, Liz Crowe is a Kentucky native and graduate of the University of Louisville currently living in Ann Arbor. She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.
Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction hybrid, “Romance. Worth the Risk,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”).
With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.
Don’t ever ask her for anything “like a Budweiser” or risk bodily injury.

A thirty-year alliance that aligned wolves and hunters has shattered. Victoria Storm leads a few surviving members of her pack in a desperate flight. As the only surviving child of their leaders, the she-wolf inherited the role of Alpha. The violent deaths of her parents and the man she loved left her devastated, and the lives of her followers depend on her decisions. Simple survival often conflicts with the demands of preserving her Norse heritage, so she must struggle to balance her duties as Freya’s priestess and Odin’s Valkyrie. When innocent children are abducted, she must set aside her differences and work with her worst enemy to rescue them.

When she’s not out hunting rogue vampires and werewolves, you can find Crystal Dawn out exploring the galaxy. She can do it all without ever leaving her computer. She kicks ass, takes names, and puts it all down for the enjoyment of her readers. At least that’s what I think she told me. Writing came as a natural outlet for her overly creative mind. The start of her stories is the easy part. Finishing them is a little harder when all the stories are in there trying to get out. She loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Her favorite people, after her family and close friends, are her readers who she says are some of the most wonderful people in this galaxy and the next.
