New Release: HENRY GALLANT AND THE WARRIOR by H. Peter Alesso #SciFi @Goddessfish

SBB_TourBanner_HenryGallantAndTheWarrior copy

In the 22th Century, the people of the Solar System have banded together against an alien invasion. Unfortunately, they’re losing—badly.

As the only Natural remaining in the genetically engineered officer corps of the United Planet’s fleet, Henry Gallant has unique mental abilities that have proven essential to the defense against the Titan invaders. Nevertheless his fellow officers lack faith in him, and worse, he has angered prominent men by speaking truth to power.

Despite this, Admiral Collingsworth has given him command of the Warrior, the most advanced stealth warship in the UP arsenal, and ordered him to the alien’s main base to spy, intrigue, and disrupt their war capacity.

Gallant’s mission leads to risky battles and painful choices, but no choice is more personal, or intimate, than the choice to face one’s own death. And for Henry Gallant—a flawed young man in a hopeless situation against overwhelming odds—a dreadful decision looms before him.

He has only one saving grace—he is unafraid.

EXCERPT

Lieutenant Henry Gallant walked along the cobblestone streets of New Annapolis—head down, mind racing . . .

My orders say take command of the Warrior immediately . . . but no promotion . . . Why not?

He pondered the possibilities, but he already knew the answer. Though he had steely gray eyes, a square jaw, and was taller than nearly everyone around him, what distinguished him most was not visible to the naked eye—he was a Natural—born without genetic engineering.

By the time he reached the space elevator, the welcoming breeze of the clear brisk morning had brightened his mood and he fell into line behind the shipyard personnel without complaint.

Looking up, he marveled; that cable goes into the clouds like an Indian rope trick.

When at last it was his turn, the guard scanned his comm pin against the access manifest.

The portal light blinked red.

“Pardon, sir. Access denied,” said the grim faced sentry.

“Call the officer of the guard,” demanded Gallant.

The officer of the guard appeared, but was no more inclined to pass Gallant through. He touched the interface panel and made several more entries, but the portal continued to blink red.

“There’s a hold on your access, sir.”

Gallant asked, “A hold?”

“Yes, sir. Your clearance and authorization are in order, but SIA has placed a hold on your travel movements. They want you to report to SIA headquarters, ASAP.”

“I need to go to the shipyard and attend to important business before going to the Solar Intelligence Agency,” clarified Gallant, but even as he said it, he knew it wouldn’t help.

“Sorry, sir. Orders.”

“Getting ready to kill someone?”

He heard the words before even realizing they were his own, murmured in her ear. Somehow, the last couple of steps had happened all on their own. And somehow, his voice was steady despite the blood hammering in his ears.

Rae tensed, though she casually brushed a lock of hair behind an ear as if she weren’t surprised to find a near-stranger right at her side.

“Depends,” she muttered.

“Depends on what?”

“Depends on how much someone pisses me off.”

Okay, so he’d snuck up on her. Stealing up unnoticed was one of his best tricks. Coyotes knew stealth—one of the few things about that part of his ancestry that did him any good.

She was playing it cool, but his coyote caught the flare of her nostrils, the pink flush on her cheeks. Either she was annoyed at being caught off guard or she liked having him this close.

Maybe a little of both. His coyote grinned and decided to push a little more.

Never mind that he was supposed to be keeping guys away from her.

Of course not, his coyote huffed. We’re just doing our job. Keeping a close eye on her.

Right. Not showing inappropriate interest. Not salivating over whatever it was about her that was so…so…irresistible.

Well, trying not to, anyway.

“And what does it take to piss you off?” the coyote made him say.

She kept her eyes firmly fixed on the target. “You don’t want to find out.”

Zip! The arrow’s flight sounded different from up close, but the effect was the same: another shaft nestled amongst the dozen bristling from the bull’s-eye. Part of him wouldn’t have minded if that arrow had gone wide of its mark, giving away her emotions. But she was cool, calm, collected.

He hid a smile. He’d been worried about other men getting too close to Rae, but clearly, this woman was not someone to mess with. And yet she let him this close. Why?

“Calling it open season on straw targets?”

“Archery season on pronghorn opens next week,” she murmured, lips against the string.

“You like to hunt?”

“I like to chase.”

So do I, his wolf nodded, licking his lips.

For a moment, he wondered if she’d somehow caught that. Because her lips parted and her shoulder dipped ever so slightly—just enough to make him wonder if she felt it, too. This link. This pull. Like the two of them were a couple of wobbly magnets suspended in that moment of truth before the poles finally made up their minds on whether they’d line up or repel.

“So what’s the bow for, if you’re just going to chase?”

She fingered the barbed tip. “Just in case.”

“In case of what?”

He watched Rae’s eyes close on some ugly memory and regretted the question immediately. Wary fingers stroked the shaft like a talisman, and just like that, her easygoing veneer had vanished, revealing something hard and angry beneath.

“In case I find the right kind of prey.”

TIME IS RELATIVE FOR A KNIGHT OF TIME by Brett Matthew Williams (Contest) @Time1sRelative

MBB_TourBanner_TimeIsRelative copy

Meet Rolland Wright – a seventeen year old orphan living out of his car in rural Woodland Hills, California. Aside from grappling with the fact of being abandoned by his drunken father two years previous following his mothers mysterious murder, his life mostly revolves around finding a warm place to sleep at night. When one day he is attacked by men claiming to have killed his father, Rolland discovers a strange ability to slow the flow of time around him, beginning a journey that takes him to places outside of time, space, and eventually to the early 19th century to fight the sinister General Andrew Jackson. With the help of a rag-tag group of historical and mythical figures with various supernatural abilities of their own (Joan of Arc, Jesse James, etc) known as the Knights of Time, Rolland solves the mystery behind his mother’s murder, falls in love, battles the evil Edward Vilthe – reaper of souls, and finds a home of his own in the paradise known as Eden.

The Time is Relative series chronicles the origin story of the mythical figure Father Time, beginning with the award winning first novel, Time is Relative for a Knight of Time. All dates and events are historically accurate. The participants… maybe not.

Available from Amazon

Excerpt:

It was a muggy, humid morning when U.S. General Andrew Jackson woke to the sound of tribal horns. Immediately identifying their purpose, he quickly gathered both his wits and his pants, grabbing his sword and sidearm as he left his tent.

Known to be tough as hickory, Andrew Jackson was a moderately tall man for his time, standing at six feet, one inch. In this and in his military rank he was often compared to George Washington among elite society in Boston, Washington, and New York, despite his humble beginnings.

Jackson’s rigid demeanor was only matched by his sharp attention to detail. His crisply, pressed uniform was such that it demanded the attention of all the company’s men. Each stood at full attention, showing perfect respect for their commanding officer as Jackson made his way through the columns slowly, careful to catch each and every pair of eyes.

“Today we fight like dogs, and live like kings!” Jackson roared to his men, who cheered loudly in response. Their gusto and appreciation for their General’s bravery in the face of danger was not unnoticed by his adversaries on and off the battlefield.

A slave, brought directly from Africa on Jackson’s orders, walked Jackson’s horse to him around the hustle and bustle of preparing for the day’s campaign. A light rain began to fall on the heads and shoulders of every soul under the barely visible sun, uniting them in nature. They all felt the soft droplets as they landed on both white and brown skin alike. Lightning struck diagonally across the gray sky, followed shortly by an attention-stealing clap of thunder that rocked the previously dry Florida landscape.

Brett will be awarding a $25 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour, and a $10 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn host.

You need to meet Prince Viktor Bach Vlastimir, aka Demise. He’s the royal assassin.

Enjoy a shifters bite!

“I see that you are hungry. Cyn, tell me about you. What do you do? What are your dreams?”

Cynthia winks, and slowly chews her steak. When she’s done, she grins at him, and leans in close to him.

“My dream is to fuck you silly.”

He grins at her and leans in close to her ear. He whispers and nibbles her ear.

“Yeah, that’s my dream too. What other dreams do you have?”

Hell, she’s driving me insane. She’s full of life, sexy as hell, and has taken my soul.

“I dream of …….hmmm. Well, I would love to be part of the World’s Enforcers.”

She bites her lower lip, smiles a sexy mischievous smile.

“I dream of meeting my mate someday and having my cubs. Viktor, I mean that I see it like this. I’m young, I have a lot of years to live. Why can’t I have fun, and enjoy my life until I meet my mate? I can always have a career later, maybe after my cubs are grown. The world realms culture could mature, maybe the technology, and culture would make it easier to reach for my dreams.”

Viktor narrows his eyes to hide his anger. Fuck no! Her mate? What the fuck! Why am I dying with the thought of her mating? I’m not her mate or a wolf. I can’t offer her cubs. I can fuck her silly but would that be enough? Will I be satisfied?

“Viktor? Did I make you mad? I hope not because my family is already mad at me. They feel that I’m too wild and spoiled because I don’t want to go to school.”

Viktor closes his eyes to hide his fear and anger. What the fuck should I say?

He opens his beautiful green eyes, the gold specks sparkle.

“I’m not mad.”

“I hope not because I want you. I want to enjoy our time as long as it is.”

Viktor smiles at her and raises her hand up to his lips. He kisses her hand and slowly turns it over to inhale her spicy rose blood. He places his lips at the veins, enjoying the rapid fiery flow of her blood.

Cynthia watches him. She shudders with wild hot hunger, and leans closer. She whispers into his ear.

“Viktor, I don’t see why we should fight this wild hunger. We wouldn’t hurt anyone.”

She licks her lower lip, watching his lips place a hot kiss on the veins on her wrist. She trembles as a burning shiver races through her body. Her breasts swell and her nipples get harder.

Fucking hell, his lips feel so hot. I can feel his soul, and his vanilla spicy scent bleed into every pore in my body. I’m on fire and aching. What the hell! I’m not supposed to feel like this for a vhampier. I’m positive that these are feelings that I’m supposed to feel for my mate.

He looks at her breasts and nipples. He groans and looks up into her glowing blue eyes.

What the fuck, she has me totally under her spell, my body is in sync with hers, and I’m going to explode. I can feel her wild hunger, her soul is burning into mine, and I can feel her wolf.

“No, we wouldn’t, but because you’re young I would like to know that you’re aware of the chaos that our relationship would cause.”

Note To Reader: My books contain hot steamy sex (it will arouse), adult content, descriptive sex scenes (protagonists may talk dirty), and action. The books don’t contain violence. If this is not the type of stories that you like to read, please skip this book. However, if you like dirty, sexy, hot scorching sex with growling domineering alpha males and sexy curvy sassy girls, then this is your cup of tea. Enjoy!

The Snarkology: Baycon Highlights #amwriting #humor

I attended Baycon 2015 last weekend as a Baycon Virgin. There were a number of interesting panels, a fun variety show, and a terrific art show and dealer room. A few memorable things happened, a couple I don’t want to blog about.

Two outstanding and hilarious moments I do want to share:

The first happened as a result of the panel on SF and humor. I posed a question to the panel to the affect, “I blog humor and I’ve found that a universally funny topic (to women) are their boyfriends/SOs/husbands. In your experience, are there any inherently funny topics in SF?”

The top and best answer came back: First contact situations and misunderstandings.

Right after the panel, I boarded the elevator with one of the panelists, and married couple. We were going up.

“Great panel,” I said. “It was hilarious.”

He grinned and replied, “But not nearly as hilarious as husbands.”

I was trying not to laugh too hard. No snappy replies were forthcoming.

Several long seconds passed and the wife between us began to look very uncomfortable. She shifted, looked left, right, and then to her spouse.

She burst out, “Well, my husband is wonderful!”

Last, best laugh of the con goes to Seanan McGuire, Writer Guest of Honor, who was a panelist on Sunday afternoon (Constructing Urban Fantasy: Going Beyond Vampires and Werewolves).

Per her profile in the program guide, “Seanan would like a Diet Dr. Pepper, a cookie, and a nap, preferably in that order.”

click image for an etsy shop with Dr. Pepper soap

As the panel started, Chaz Brenchley sat beside Seanan. He plopped down a scented soap on the table. “It’s Diet Dr. Pepper.”

Seanan grabbed the soap and stuffed it into her mouth.

The whole room burst out laughing.

She kept that Diet Dr. Pepper soap bar in her mouth for a really long time. The whole audience was in stitches.

My hat’s off to her. Anyone willing to eat soap for the sake of a joke has my respect.

The Snarkology: Baycon 2015 Photographs #amwriting

Depressingly, very few of the photos I took at Baycon came out. My camera phone always produces blurry images and the obnoxious hotel lighting seems to have compounded the problem. Here are a few that aren’t too bad.

If I died… #Humor

…I’m pretty sure Miss Bear would wind up as a working girl on an oil rig if she were raised by single-father Mr. Snark.

An errand took me out of the house this morning. I returned to Miss Bear eating a huge pile of French Fries.

My hands flew into the air and my voice followed. “French fries for breakfast!”

“Yeah!” Miss Bear smirked. Her precious little mouth had a red smear of ketchup which streaked her cheek.

Turning to Mr. Snark, I repeated, “French fries for breakfast!”

Mr. Snark: “She asked for them.”

“That doesn’t mean we give them to her! What were you thinking?”

Mr. Snark: “She wanted Oreos but I said no.”

“That’s your defense?”

“Yes.”

A chat with the heroes of the Lightbearer series @TamiLundAuthor #Romance

When I asked to interview someone from Tami Lund’s Lightbearer series, not in my wildest imaginations (which can get pretty damn wild) did I think I would be sitting across from not one but three rather large and highly attractive shape-shifters.

Three!

They are so much larger than life. When I read Tami’s books, it amazes me the humans do not realize these men are not, well, human. They are all well over six-foot tall, with massive chests and arms. They have either black or very pale blue eyes, and so one of the redheaded Hennigan brothers informs me, their eyes glow.

“When we’re excited,” Finn Hennigan explains.

“Excited?”

His brother Reid, who is two years younger yet could almost be his twin, gives his shoulder a shove. “Don’t go putting ideas in the human’s head. You want her to tell the whole damn world about us?”

“She won’t,” Tanner Lyons, the third shifter in the group and their pack master, says in a quiet, confident voice, while those pale eyes watch me almost as if he is staring into my soul. I don’t believe they have mental powers of persuasion, but I am certainly compelled to do whatever he asks. It could be that he’s so damn good looking, though. Think Thor with dark hair. See what I mean?

“So you live side by side with humans, and none are aware that with just a thought, you can literally turn into an animal?” I ask, still awed by this concept. I have been sworn to secrecy, since it was the only way I could get this interview, but I cannot help but wonder how cool it would be to be the person who told the world about their secret. Talk about fame and fortune at my fingertips…

“Well, we don’t,” Finn says, waving his hand to indicate all three shifters. “We live in the Lightbearers’ coterie, but—” I interrupt.

“Wait, what’s a coterie?”

“It’s a small community located on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Lightbearers have lived there for over five hundred years, unbeknownst to pretty much anyone else in the world. It’s warded against detection, specifically against shifters. And humans, of course.”

“Why? Why against shifters specifically, I mean?”

“Well, the reason the Lightbearers went into hiding five hundred years ago is because we used to be mortal enemies. Some shifters still hold to the belief that to kill a Lightbearer is to inherit her magic,” Tanner explains.

“Huh. So how is it you’re living in their coterie now?”

The look on Tanner’s face softens perceptively. Finn rolls his eyes, and Reid punches his arm. “You’re just as hooked on your own Lightbearer as he is on his.”

“Yeah, what about you?” Finn retorts.

“Me, too. I’d still be living alone in Chicago, if I hadn’t met Carley.”

“Carley?” I ask.

“She’s the head Lightbearer chef. She cooks for the king,” Reid explains.

“We’ve obviously changed our stance on the whole mortal enemies concept,” Finn drawls cheekily.

I look at Reid, something he said stuck in my head. “Why were you living alone in Chicago? I thought shifters were pack-like creatures?”

All three exchange a look I cannot decipher. Tanner speaks for the group. “We are all from one pack. Quentin Lyons’ pack, out in Wyoming. And before you ask, yes, he was my father. He was also a bastard, and he was a lousy leader. He did a lot of unscrupulous things, including pit pack members against one another and spend thirty years searching for the Lightbearers, when none of the rest of us thought they existed. We all assumed they’d gone extinct, when in fact, they’d gone into hiding.”

After another shared look with his two friends, he continues. “All three of us are where we are today because he finally caught one. A Lightbearer, I mean. He captured Olivia – who is now my mate – and who happens to be the princess of the Lightbearers. If I think about it too much, it pisses me off that I almost should thank him and his obsession for introducing me to my mate and the love of my life.”

Before I can melt into a puddle of sappy goo, Finn pipes up. “And me to mine. I was attracted to Cici from the very first moment I saw her, even though I had no idea what or who she was at the time.”

Tanner snorts. “And then you spent the next few months refusing to admit it.”

Finn’s ruddy skin reddens and he does not deny Tanner’s accusation. Reid chuckles. “Not me. I knew from the first second I saw Carley that she would be mine. I just didn’t count on all the other shit in our lives getting in the way.”

Tanner shakes his head. “That’s always the case, isn’t it? I suppose that helps make it all that much sweeter when we finally get our happily ever afters, doesn’t it?”

Reid’s shoulders twitch, as if he is experiencing phantom pains. “Maybe. But it sure would be nice not to have to go through all that bullshit first.”

I feel as though I should apologize for authors in general, even though I know the exact reason readers pick up our books is to read about all that bullshit on the way to the happily ever after. But I decide to ask what I think is a less controversial question instead. “So shifters live in our world, but you live in packs, far away from humans?” I am trying to understand how this works, how they can live in our world, yet no one knows they exist.

“Not always. In the case of our former pack, yes. Quentin hated humans, even though he had no problems selling goods and services to them to support the pack.” Tanner explains.

“I’d say most packs have a healthy distaste for humans, although often they live side by side with them,” Finn added. “Josh’s pack is a perfect example.”

“Josh’s pack?” I ask.

“Josh Tigre. He’s the pack master over the Detroit pack. They literally live in the burbs, surrounded by humans. Yet in general, his pack dislikes humans.”

“Did I tell you guys Josh is dating a human?” Tanner asks, looking at Finn and Reid. “I met her the last time I was down there visiting.”

“Dating?” Finn repeats. Tanner nods slowly.

“As in, unless I’m off my mark, he’s pretty hooked on her.”

“That’s not good,” Finn comments.

“Nope,” Tanner says. He looks at me, and his pale eyes are glowing faintly. “Looks like Tami has another book brewing. And for the record, Josh is my friend. So I expect him to get a happily ever after. However the hell she makes that happen.”

I swallow and nod, feeling as though if it does not happen, this highly intimidating pack master will hold me personally responsible.

I’d better go check on her writing progress…

Tami Lund likes to live, love, and laugh, and does her best to ensure the characters in her books do the same. After they’ve overcome a few seemingly insurmountable obstacles first, of course.

When she’s not doing that, she’s mom to two (growing far too fast) kids and a furbaby who conveniently forces her to exercise at least once a day. She’s also a wife to her own knight in shining armor who proposed in a way worthy of a romance novel. She loves to garden and every year attempts (usually in vain) to keep her lawn green through the month of August.

Tami is multi-published, both self and with a few publishers, including Crimson Romance, Liquid Silver Books, and (as of June 2015) Soul Mates Publishing.

Chances are, there is a new book coming out soon. Be sure to stalk her on social media, so you know when. Which social media, you ask? Well, practically all of them, but let’s start with Twitter: https://twitter.com/TamiLundAuthor and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AuthorTamiLund. HOPE by Sam Rook (Contest) #Fantasy @Goddessfish

MBB_TourBanner_Hope copyThe winged knights—magically altered humans—are the only ones defending the portal from Av’lor to Earth. With defeat imminent, they find an unlikely source of hope in software engineer, Kathryn.

Kathryn doubts her life could get any worse after the death of her mother and daughter. She realizes her mistake after she arrives on Av’lor with only part of her house and hungry creatures looking for their next meal. Once the knights bring her under their protection, she discovers their angry commander is far from welcoming.

Sir Lanclor, Commander of the Knighthood, lives with the curse of betrayal. While the treachery occurred lifetimes before, few see past his guarded shell to the grim man beneath. Barely holding the Knighthood together, his grip tightens when Kathryn joins their ranks. Her stubbornness and surprising strength not only energizes the knights, but also makes Sir Lanclor question his self-imposed isolation.

With the approach of an invading army, Kathryn and Sir Lanclor must find a way to end centuries of war and save two worlds.

Excerpt:

“Just leave it alone, Lord Alextor.” Lanclor didn’t glance away from the window.

“Don’t you ‘Lord Alextor’ me, Lan.” Alextor grabbed his shoulder and swung him around. “Tell me what’s going on.” Alextor looked him in the eye, unwavering.

Lanclor glared at him, but knew Alextor was too stubborn to let it rest. He looked down at Alextor’s hand upon his shoulder. His friend quickly removed it. Lanclor walked over to his desk and sat down, placing his elbows upon the desk and clenching his hands together. “Yes, I had some luck.

“And?”

“And what?”

“Do you know who she was?” Alextor gave him an irritated look.

“Yeah. Someone I should never have gotten involved with.”

“She was that bad, huh? You’ll regroup next time, find someone better.”

Lanclor looked away, clenching his jaw. “Yeah.” He felt Alextor’s stare boring into the side of his head.

“By the Goddess.”

“What?” Lanclor looked up with an innocent expression that didn’t quite meet his eyes.

“You pursued someone you cared for.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Lanclor rose from his chair. “I have reports to do. We’ll have to talk later.”

“Bullshit. You write those reports for me, so if I don’t care about them right now, you shouldn’t either. Who was it, Lan?” Alextor leaned with both hands upon Lanclor’s desk, glaring at him.

Lanclor gave the window a momentary glance, then returned Alextor’s glare. “It’s not any of your business.” He cursed the despair in his voice.
