TIME TRAVELING HOOKERS by S.E. Burr #Romance @GoddessFish @serinburr
Three modern day roommates and recent college grads take a time machine back to the Wild West. The time machine breaks, stranding them in the past where they are forced to join a brothel to survive.
With the help of future technology, they’re able to trick their customers into thinking they’re getting what they pay for, without actually having to do the deed.
But the scam involves getting much more up close and personal with smelly, 19th century hicks than germaphobe and prude, Anastasia, is comfortable with.
One customer seems sweeter, more attractive, and better groomed than the rest. Could she actually fall for a cowboy from the dirty, disgusting past?

Excerpt:
Etta hooted. “Art of lovemaking!” she said, slapping her leg. “Well that’s the funniest thing I ever heard. Ain’t no art going on here. Ain’t no love either. This is a business I’m keeping, and if you want a room in my brothel, you’ll damn site bring in the money to pay for it.”
Beth was angry. Angry. And when Beth was angry she’d say something she shouldn’t, or worse.
Anastasia put a restraining hand on Beth’s arm and Beth glared at her.
“We’ll make money,” said Anastasia. “We’ll make you plenty of money, but we’re tired and dirty. We’d like a bath and a bed so we can be ready for tonight.”
“Well, we’ll see, give you a trial, like,” said the woman. “Go on in. I won’t show you to your rooms. I don’t wear these dirty things into the house, and I’ve got a good sight more work to do here, but hopefully you can find your own way without waking the whole house. The girls are still asleep, and there are some gentleman callers hanging around, who I’m sure don’t want to be disturbed.”
They went into the whorehouse. It was nice, very nice. On their first trip into the town, Anastasia had taken it for a wealthy man’s house, a house big enough for a big family, with sumptuous room to spare.
But as she now knew, this was a different kind of house, and as she would soon learn, this was a different kind of family.

S.E. Burr wrote Time Traveling Hookers over the course of a weekend at a Tom Bird writing retreat in Santa Fe, NM. It is based on a dream she had a few weeks prior to the retreat, but she did no advanced planning of the plot. She was very surprised to discover that the story was a romance, as she did not often read romances, let alone write them. She quite enjoyed the experience and intends to write more romances in the future, but cautions that what she intends to write and what she actually writes can be two very different things.
She is the author of the young adult novel, Goblin Fruit, inspired by the poem “Goblin Market” by Christina Rossetti. The sequel, Goblin Girl, is coming soon. It was inspired by her desire to find out more of the story.
A nearly lifelong resident of rural New Mexico, S.E. Burr loves the desert, her family, and her cat.

Excerpt:
The counter guy took a sip of his coffee. He turned to Mama. “It’s like the goddamned UN in here, a chink fag waiter and some spic in the kitchen.” He gave a wheezing laugh.
My stomach dropped. Mama gave me a look. Then she focused on him and exaggerated her Castilian accent. “What are you saying about my family?”
“Lighten up. I was making a joke.” From twenty feet away I could see the flare in his nostrils. “How was I to know you’d take it bad? You look white.” He backed away, fumbling in his back pocket for his wallet. Throwing a couple of bills on the counter, he bolted.
I picked up the money and smoothed it out. “On top of that, he shorted us a quarter.”
Mama reached over and plucked his jacket from the back of the stool. She held it so I could see the confederate flag stitched on the back. “And he left his trash.”
There was a squeak of wheels, and Mark rolled up, his dog beside him. He was smiling. “We’ll take it to him. You’re not the first person to get scared by Tuk.”
Jesus, he had nice eyes.

Review by Melissa Snark:
Bear Hearts is a wonderful paranormal romance that explores the relationship between Dr. Elizabeth Montrose and bear shifter Martin Kruger. While I love the premise of enemies who falling in love; fated mates not so much. The story was well written and entertaining.
I haven’t read book 1 in the series but this novella worked fine as a standalone. Following a somewhat blah prologue I could have done without, the story picks up steam and moves briskly forward. The book contained interesting ideas about shifter DNA and curing infectious diseases which were pretty cool. The military aspect was also fairly unique, and not seen often in shifter fiction.
Two thumbs up. I’d recommend this book to lovers of paranormal romance who adore big grumpy bears. I received an ARC for an honest review.
Excerpt:
His bear was primal, feral, animal. It knew only one thing. They had met their mate. The bear had no qualms or reservations. It didn’t care if she was good or evil. It wanted only to mate, protect and love. Too bad the man couldn’t feel the same way.
How could he feel desire for such a woman? He should want to strangle her with his bare hands not throw her down and mate her until she screamed his name. He was verrückt, crazy with mating frenzy, that’s all it could be.
He downed the rest of the beer and set the bottle on the table. Anger burned in his gut like hot coals. Lust poured gasoline on the coals and lit the fire. Then grief drizzled down over it all, turning the fire to smoke and ashes.
This was getting him nowhere. He could analyze it until he was blue in the face, but it wouldn’t change the facts. Why did he keep rehashing it? He needed to take a shower and at least try to get a little sleep. He had to face his Sippe in the morning.
Maybe Bern could help him find an answer. His friend and mentor had always helped him in the past, always stood by his side. Maybe there was a way? Who was he kidding? Himself, obviously.
Martin’s shoulders sagged, so weary now he wondered if he could drag himself up the stairs to his bedroom. What was the point in going on? He had nothing left to live for. His dream of a mate and cubs was lost.
Two hundred years of waiting and searching for that perfect soul mate and she turns out to be the enemy. Unsuitable. Unfit. Evil.
A single tear slid from his eye and he viciously wiped it away. Many bears never found their mates and lived out their lives simply enjoying the companionship of willing females. He had a duty to the Sippe. He could do the same.

Excerpt:
One more piece of the puzzle, and the technology anticipated, even feared, would be born. If he’d calculated correctly, and Walter was meticulous about calculations, the day’s mail should contain the gem he’d saved and scraped for. Every tip, handout, or penny literally scraped from the gutter had gone into a jar, and last week he’d exchanged the sum for a cashier’s check and placed the order. If this final trial didn’t work, he’d lose everything he’d slaved over. His ideas were running out, his home was about to be razed, and what made the urgency even more crucial, he sensed “they” were about to discover his hiding place.
Flipping the wall calendar over his workbench, Walter circled a date two weeks hence. That would give him sufficient time to install the final part, to test, and make note of his achievement. Perhaps even enjoy it himself before he turned it over to the one who would carry it to the world, who could safely deliver the technology where it would do the most good. It was time to plan the handoff.
The sun’s rays pouring from a high window warmed and loosened Walter’s back muscles. The glint on the shaft of metal, as thick as a Cuban cigar, the length of a number two pencil, gave him more than a few moments of pride he’d not felt since the birth of his long-lost son.
He held the eyepiece up and sighted, spinning the dial. It caught and stuck in place. He wrapped it once again in the cloth, gently rested the device between the jaws of the vise and slowly cranked it shut, stopping at precisely the point where the Kaleidoscope would be held firmly in place, but not harmed by the firm grip. He filed and sprayed, working over the delicate prize until the dial spun like butter and the magnificent colors fell into place.

New Release: Too Far Gone (Adirondack Pack, Book 1) by K.C. Stewart #Paranormal #Romance
Too Far Gone
Adirondack Pack, Book 1
It’s either the beginning or the end for Sadie James. She came to the small Adirondack town of Andora looking for a fresh start. One that didn’t include the pitying looks of strangers who saw her on the news. Only days into her new life and already she is in trouble. That is, unless the wolf in front of her was salivating at the sight of some other woman in the vast forest around her.
After killing his sister, Tyson searched for oblivion the only way he knew how to. As a wolf he could run from the life he left behind and become the animal he always was. The time between lucidness grows longer each times he surfaces. One day he won’t be able to come back at all. It was the only thing he looked forward to until a lost woman fell at his feet.
Sadie is in danger and she is blind to it. Although, it was never proven, Tyson always believed Jack was behind his sister’s ultimate demise. Now Jack has his sights set on Sadie. Can he fight the pull of the wild or will he let her face the wolves alone?
Excerpt:
The silence of the forest was almost worse than the sounds of fighting. It was so insanely loud with absolute nothingness. Emptiness sounded a lot like the last second before a roller coaster dropped over the first hill. For one brief second there was absolutely nothing. No thought. No breath. No sound beyond the beating of your own heart in your ears. But even that stops just before the decent begins. Right before you are pulled over, there is a complete sense of weightless nothingness. Too soon, you are half laughing half screaming with a smile so big bugs are getting caught in your teeth.
Was this the beginning of her decent?
In her musings, Sadie had missed the footsteps. Light and airy they floated over the few dried leaves and soft grass to stand beside her. The wolf’s presence soothed and excited her in her twisted mental state. While his tongue licked at her fingers and cold nose nudged at her arm, she became irritated.
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you to not play with your food?” she grumbled. Between her arm and the piece of moss she was laying on, Sadie looked at the wolf. It was the one from before, the one with the yellow eyes. She sighed momentarily with relief then remembered she was dinner before they were so rudely interrupted. He nudged her arm again and that’s when she looked at him, really looked. The wolf was no longer salivating and kind of looked wholesome now that his nose wasn’t scrunched up towards his eyes showing off his chompers. He sat his butt down in front of her and rested his head on his paws. Their noses were mere inches from each other. Behind him, she caught the tip of his tail wagging slowly from side to side.
“Hi.”
He raised his head and looked dignified and slightly abashed.
“So I take it I’m off the menu tonight?”
His mouth opened and his tongue flopped to the side as he panted.
“That’s not a very good confirmation.” She pushed up to her hands and knees and sat back on her feet. The wolf sat up as she did. They were the same height now and looking right in each other’s eyes. At this height he didn’t look like anything more than an oversized dog. His ears stood up straight with pointy little tips that looked like they were dipped in black paint. The line of dark fur on his face did, in fact, run the length of him. Sadie thought he looked a little like a skunk in reverse.
“If you’re not going to eat me can I go home?”
He stayed put. She took that as a yes and began to rise. Slowly, because he was a still a wolf and she didn’t want to spook him and end up losing a hand, Sadie rose to her feet and brushed off the bits of forest that clung to her shorts and t-shirt.
Once more, the wolf followed her lead and got to his feet. Without thinking, or a second glance, she turned on her heel and began to walk back to her house. This was the very last time she wondered this far from her place. If it was not within eye shot, she was too far away.
Lesson learned.
Shame on her.
Bad Sadie.
She stopped.
The soft padding of footsteps behind her stopped too.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she said looking upward to the heavens. “Seriously?” She didn’t want to but glanced behind her anyway. Sure enough, the wolf stood a few paces behind her with a look of, “why’d we stop?” Groaning, she turned back around and continued to walk. She told herself that he was just being a gentleman and walking her home. Then she remembered he was a wolf and was probably just finding out where she lived so he could visit at some point for a midnight snack.

Heartbroken to find out he had gambled away everything they had, she moves to her sister-in-law’s Midwest home to rebuild her life. A trip to the local Renaissance Faire with her nieces leads to a summer job as a costumed storyteller.
Avowed bad boy and fair performer Gage Younglood is infatuated with Connie at first sight. Despite his deliberately commitment-free life, and Connie’s don’t-touch-me attitude, he soon has her in his arms, realizing quickly she is also in his heart.
When she is threatened by her late husband’s bookie, he steps into the role of protector, his fate forever sealed with hers.
Excerpt:
“Who said anything about a relationship?” he said, standing up so he could tower over her again. “I’m just trying to have a little fun. You know, fun?”
If he’d been an animal, she was sure he’d have had hair raised on the back of his neck, he seemed so angry, and it struck her painfully. She hadn’t wanted to anger him or hurt him. She turned away from him and closed her eyes to tamp down the tears she knew would come if she let them. She crossed her arms over her chest, to hold in the pain. Being tired made her much too vulnerable.
“Yes,” she finally said. “I know about fun. Life isn’t always fun, though.”
“Princess.” His voice was soft, tender. “I won’t hurt you. It’s not in my plan.”
Despite herself, she felt the shivers of desire race down from her shoulders, down her arms and legs, and back up to that secret, soft place at her core. She bowed her head and gritted her teeth, hoping for the feeling to go away.
“And what is your plan, Gage?”
“It’s a simple plan. I want you to feel good. I want to feel good, too.”

“Student Gillman.” The sentinel sounded annoyed, and I turned slowly to face him. “Make your report.”
What good would my report do? What difference would it make? All my life I’d planned to be an historian, but not anymore. “These aren’t just names and numbers on a page. Not now. They’re flesh and blood. They have dreams and hopes. They fall in love.” I stumbled over the words. “I can’t go back to pretending it’s just history. It’s real now.”
“Well done, Student Gillman. That is an accurate, if emotive, assessment. I am pleased to see you are extending your studies.”
I stared in disbelief. It was as though I’d said nothing. I drew in a shaky breath and pushed to my feet. “I can’t do this. Not today, not ever. I want to leave.”
The sentinel cocked his head as though he hadn’t heard me.
“I want to leave,” I repeated, louder. “I know you can authorize an emergency portal. I can’t stay here.”
Something like amusement flitted across his face before his mask slammed back into place. “Emergency portals are for emergencies. Critical injuries. I don’t see you bleeding out, Student Gillman.”
I was injured on the inside. I’d never be whole again.

Not long after her arrival she discovers there are insurgents hiding in the darkened forests and the planet is on the brink of civil war. It won’t be long until the Monarchy steps in to “neutralize” the threat.
Will she be able to stop the hostile takeover? Or will her actions ignite a rebellion across the universe?

Excerpt:
“Well, when the Monarchy showed them this,”—Garret nodded to the paper—“and their current Prime Minister dead, his successor was very willing to pass the torch.”
Ren inspected the paper closer while Elian tried to remember what a Prime Minister was. The only words she could make out were “Star Deed” and “Meredith Argent”, along with a seemingly random set of numbers.
“Something that isn’t widely known is that back on Earth in the latter twentieth to early twenty-first century, people would gift stars to each other,” Garret explained.
“Seriously?” Elian asked.
Garret nodded. “And in 1984, a man named Daniel Argent gave his girlfriend and soon to be wife a star for their wedding. Ring any chimes?”
“Bells,” Ren corrected. “And yes, it does. Are you saying because our ancestor named a star, through a company that doesn’t have any right to name stars I might add, that we own it now? And by default, the planet that orbits it?”
“Absolutely,” Garret said with a grin. Ren had hoped her corrections would make him think twice before opening his mouth, or at least put a damper on his mood, but it did neither.
“You are now the royal family of the planet Novae.” Garret bowed towards the new royals. “Welcome to the Monarchy.”
Emerson will be awarding a $20 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour, and a $20 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn host.
