Movie Review: Act of Valor

An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original film making, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure. Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home. Each time they accomplish their mission...

9 out of 10 Oscars

My Review
This movie is NOT for those looking for a cheap Action thriller. Although there is action in this movie it is cut scenes and takes a bit of using your own mind to put all the pieces together. It leaves parts out, it doesn't show everything.
This movie is not done by big actors. People are downgrading the movie due to the actors and shot work of filming. To you I suggest just stay to you A-List actor  movies.
This movie has also been thought of as a cheap buck for the Seals that act in the movie. Yes they are real Navy Seals that are acting in this movie.  People say they are sell outs as your not suppose to show what you do or how you do it. That is probably where the lack of some information is.
I personally loved this movie. I don't know if it is because I have Military people in my family and have went through the NJROTC in high school but never went into a branch myself that makes me unable to see any hatred towards them.
The movie brought tears to my eyes and rejuvenated my belief in what we can accomplish. The strength and pain that our troops go through daily. The pain those at home live with and the fear. You have to look outside the box to connect with this movie. But if you are capable. Then I think its worth it.

Book Review: Skull Flowers

Skull FlowersBy: Jazon Dion Fletcher

Skull Flowers is the story of Alexis, her robot 808, and her bumbling friend Officer Whistle Britches as they set off on an adventure to find out who and what was behind the assassination of her father Governor Champagne. Along the way they encounter many villains including Special Agent Scarzensky, Mistress LaReaux, and Dr. Necropolis and explore many strange places including the Death Factory owned by Controlled Substances Inc., the polluted bayou along Fiddlers Creek, and the Pyramid ov tha Priestess ov Mars. In her journey she is aided by her mentor Professor Proxy, her pirate friend Junebug, and his girlfriend Minx. Where the stars will shine eternal, where the sky it never ends, where all will ride eternal, where the moonlight shall attend, amongst the riots and make believe.

My Review
Like if you were to pick up a Shakespeare book and read it you will find that Skull Flowers is written in the format you would see a play script. Although this does not pull away from the story I felt the need to share with you in case you're the type that doesn't do well reading plays.
The story follows that in the case of love, betrayal, action, revenge, and seek of power. As it opens you can already see that like most places the "governing system" does not get along on all aspects of what should be done for the people and area they are over.
This argument over this or that soon proves to be the cause of murder and mayhem. Taking power and seeking more. However, Alexis isn't willing to just stand back and accept it all.
From footage caught on tape, to putting clues together down to life or death battles of power and gods. This book takes you on an adventure that will have you turning the pages quickly as your heart races with the story line and you start putting the pieces together yourself.

Ten literary, psychological, and suspense tales collected in Sandcastle and Other Stories are nothing short of an adventure through a roiling sea of emotion. An old man twisted by fate and a lost love . . . a young girl playing on the ocean shore becomes entangled in nets of a mercurial god . . . a divorced man mired in troubles, coerced into taking a singles' cruise . . . a Hollywood actor in a television drama, always typecast as the bad boy . . . a child kept awake by night terrors, and a woman who hides her secretive personality from everyone on the beach one sunny day. Genuine voices of the characters, mixed with a clear-eyed tonal directness, make this a series with mesmerizing psychological interaction. Stories span a broad depth of human understanding and build a bridge between deepest chasms of pain and high portals of joy. Read Sandcastles and Other Stories and stand witness to unspeakable hate sitting with cozy wile, right beside unconditional love -- a provocative and compelling mirror on the human condition.

Enjoyable read. 10 short but powering stories. You don't have to read them all in one sitting as each story is its own but you'll want to. The characters emotions and thought patterns are so well incorporated into the stories that you can picture the stories as movies in your mind. Unexpected twist and turns of the characters actions turn each story into your favorite. Justin Bog is a wonderful writer that really knows how to draw you in with some of the most common human traits and yet powering stories. Sandcastle still has me in shock.

I'm not one that goes out looking for those get rich books. My life is pretty much black and white to the point I know I will never be able to claim the rich life style and it is going to take all I have not to drown in the sea of debt. However, this is a book I want on my shelf.
Not only does this book give you step by steps charts, ideas, and actions to take to begin the private lending process but it gives you information about the world of finances. It tells you historical moments and the truth of how it isn't that these people got rich on it but that these other people you don't think about got rich on it. It gives you facts and explains those facts.  Also it doesn't use to many banker terms as I like to call them. Anyone that knows the basic concept of money can read this book.
It even provides real life cases where people made a profit using some creative and some simple tricks. If you are in the Private lending business or thinking of joining the private lending business I suggest you grab this book. Also it is a good book if you are just looking to understand who, what, when, where, why, and how money and finances have gone, go, and will be going.

REVIEW TIME!!!

First I want to say THANK YOU Gladys for having a book that doesn't have vampires are pretty little diamonds!
Getting into the book was easy within the first couple of sentences I couldn't put the book down. I had to know more and learn more about each mystery that slowly surfaced and continued. Cassandra is one of those that is just born unlucky I think. She has to survive so many bad things that happen in her life. However she has had the help of her guardian angel. Years of being together the two of them fall in love and spend every dream together. But when Cassandras long time boyfriend leaves and the things between her and her dream guardian angel become heated more truth is unveiled. Is she crazy or is there more to everything then she could possibly ever know?
There is some sexual scenes but nothing extremely detailed. This book is hot and steamy without having to go into the erotic details that some books have. And if there are any dark haired guardian angels that want to come to me in my dreams... please do so. I would love to be Cassandra and have the undying love that she and her mystery angel have.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
FAQ
Why 4 not 5 stars? Well in this book the dreams and love of the two take up 75% of the book. And as much as I love reading about them and their passion for one another I would have loved to know more about Cassandra. About things she does during the day to know more about her personality and her likes. I am one who likes to get inside the mind of the characters and though it is possible in this book it is hard when you know so little about Cassandra outside of the hospital and her steamy dreams.

Blog Tour Post for Statue of Ku

About Statue of Ku:  The second book in the Moa Book Series, "The Statue of Ku" follows Hillary and Moa as they jet to Egypt on the Prince’s private plane to reclaim Moa’s family heirloom, the inimitable statue of Ku. Get it on Amazon.

About the author:   [image error]   Tricia Stewart Shiu combines her addiction to the written word with her avid interest in the healing arts and all things metaphysical in her novels Moa and Statue of Ku and looks forward to finding new ways to unite her two loves. Visit Tricia on her website, Twitter, Facebook, or GoodReads.

Please enjoy this interview with Tricia Stewart Shiu, author of the paranormal YA novel with a literary bent Moa and Statue of Ku.
1. The Moa Book series has a metaphysical theme. Do you have any expertise in this area?
I am an energetic intuitive and have a talent for creating powerful healing essential oil blends and gem elixirs. The unearthing of these talents occurred as I embarked on a metaphysical journey, which included studies in mediumship, pagan and Huna rituals as well as an energy healing technique called “Crystalline Consciousness Technique.” I also studied a variety of shamanic clearing methods and healing rituals.
2. You get pretty heavy into the metaphysical. Are you, in fact, a witch?
Like, Hillary, I question who I am on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis. For centuries, women have been persecuted and even killed for being labeled a witch. I have studied many forms of healing rituals and magic and discovered that I have talents for using essential oils and crystals for the highest good. Others, who have witnessed the results of my practices, have called me many things: healer, shaman, and yes, witch. I choose not to accept any of these names but to embrace all of them as one growing changing name—wishealer or heshitch—to coin a phrase...or maybe not. As I discover more talents, gifts and unique parts to myself, this unusual word is sure to undergo a metamorphosis and may grow to the size of Moa's real, and quite lengthy, Hawaiian name.
 3. What are your favorite books and how have they touched you as a reader?
Albert Einstein said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” The books/stories that touch me most echo the theme of humanity and self discovery and include a sense of adventure and wonder. Ray Bradbury's short story, Frost and Fire is a shocking, but tender story about a boy's journey into a world where people only live eight days. James Joyce's Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man inspired me to unleash my inner censor and allow my truth to shine though my writing. If I could wish anything for those who read my books, it would be the gift of self acceptance and self acknowledgement.
4. How long does it take you to write a book from start to finish?
Good question. I went back into my notes and discovered that it took me exactly three months and ten days to write Moa from beginning to end. That seems to be my average writing speed, three months. My aunt Rebecca Gummere is my editor extraordinaire. We have developed a comfortable and productive working rhythm that balances creativity and structure and brings such joy and enrichment to the work.
 5. Who designs the covers for your books?
The brilliant and talented Sydney Shiu took the cover photos when she was six during a trip to Hawaii. Scott Torrance brought his years of experience in photographic art and design to the layouts.
 6. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The time between stories is the most challenging for me. When I am inside a story and writing I am filled with peace and joy. When I finish and have to leave that world, I mourn the loss of this comforting place--the same is true when I finish reading a great book. Nevertheless, I believe that this sadness brings with it a great opportunity and depth of creativity and I wouldn’t change a thing about the process.
 7. Any take-away message you want readers to grasp?
Each of us has at least one divine gift to remember. The moment we wake up and retrieve the memory of who we are and what we are here to do, that's when the adventure begins.
 8. When did you first consider yourself an author?
I was in middle school and read James Joyce’s Portrait of an Artist for the first time. About an hour later, I was overcome by an urge to write, an impulse I readily indulged. Time stood still, I still can't quite remember what happened during that frenzied period of first creation. All I remember is coming to with pages upon pages filled with words in front of me. It felt incredible to express myself so freely. I've never looked back.
 9. Did you start out writing novels?
No. I started out writing short stories when I was young. Then when I began acting, I wrote one-woman shows and plays, eventually combining my efforts of performance and writing in a piece called Doing Lunch which made it’s way into a short film trilogy directed by Hal Trussel. That film won “Best Dramatic Short” at the Houston Film Festival.
 10. What was your main source of inspiration for the Moa book series?
When I was five, I was visited by a vision. I'll never forget it, I was running down the stairs and the entity, a girl with dark hair, stopped me in my tracks. The spirit said that I would go through a deeply challenging time in my life, but would resurface, later in life, with unimaginable joy and fulfillment. That vision stayed with me. In middle school, I would sit quietly at my desk adding up the years to figure out exactly when my life would turn around. And then I forgot. I got busy, my work and the stress of family life took over and I was completely overwhelmed and in desperate need of a vacation. My husband, daughter and I decided to go to Hawaii. When the plane landed in Honolulu, I remember feeling the difference in the atmosphere as I disembarked. The air made me somehow, remember that there was a part of me that knew…something…what was it? Never mind, I was in Hawaii it was time to see the sights! So, I sped off to see Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach and then headed home for an afternoon nap before an evening luau. As I drifted toward sleep, I heard my name being called. In my mind's eye, I saw a beautiful young woman with dark hair, who said her name was Moaahuulikkiaaakea’o Haanaapeekuluueehuehakipuunahe’e—Moa for short. And then I remembered.

REVIEW TIME!!! REVIEW TIME!!! REVIEW TIME!!! REVIEW TIME!!! REVIEW TIME!!! REVIEW TIME!!!

Written in the same way as Moa this story goes into the depths of Egypt to find Ku. Again the story jumps point of views in different places and had me confused to where I would have to reread a section a couple of times just to figure it out. This one has or to me seems to have a lot more characters in it but I was still unable to attach and connect to any of them. This story is a bit longer then the first book but still could be easily enjoyed for a lazy afternoon read.

LETS REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jennifer has her own unique style of writing. The book is written in 1st person point of view from the character Sarafina. You follow her through the life of a early 20's girl living in LA. You meet her friends and learn about them as well. The writing is nothing I've ever read before and took a little time to get use to. But I am glad I didn't stop reading. It is good to try new things. You get to follow Sarafina as she comes to realize things from her past, her present, her future. Love, hate, disappointment, happiness, and some very philosophical ecstasy trips.
It is an easy book to read and enjoyable. I enjoyed reading the life story style of this book as it added some change from my normal reading list. I hope to see more from Jennifer and her colorful and interesting stories.

Review Time!!!        Review Time!!!         Review Time!!!          Review Time!!!       Review Time!!!

Hillary is a follower of witchcraft. She performs charms, incantations, and meditates to enhance her powers over herself. Going to Hawaii to visit her sister should be a nice vacation from the bullies at home and provide some adventure. But she can't for see that she will meet Moa and be sent on the adventure to top all others. Finding ways to save herself, her family and Moa sends her to places she never would have imagined and teaches her things she wouldn't learn on her own.
The book can get a bit confusing as it does switch from point of view. Personally I didn't find the adventure to hold my attention that much. And I couldn't relate to the characters either. Which is very sad as I myself have studied witchcraft. It is a short read that could probably be finished in a lazy afternoon.

Movie Review: In Time

In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage - a connection that becomes an important part of the way against the system.

Cillian Murphy as Raymond Leon
 "TimeKeeper"

Justin Timberlake as Will Salas

Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis

MY REVIEW TIME!!!

7 Oscars are awarded to this "Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller". I will be one of the first to say that I have never been one of those in love with Justin type people. I grew up with the pop band but never really had my crush on the curly haired singer. When Justin first got into acting in the early 2000's I had to laugh and shake my head. However he really has turned himself around. This movie puts him in a stronger more dominate role then most of what I see him in and I think it really brings him into the spot light. He has the mixture of futuristic robin hood down pretty good.
Oh and Robin Hood is exactly what this movie reminds me of. Steal from the rich and give to the poor.
This movie isn't action 24/7 and honestly this whole I love you at first sight thing is slightly boring but it works. Tying in the whole Bonnie and Clyde aspect of things. There is plenty of action to keep one interested but it does slow down and builds on the characters and their past. Letting you hear pieces of how or why they are who they are today.
Once on the run and back in the ghettos you don't only have the guards from the rich district after you but also the thugs of the ghetto and timekeepers always hot on your trails.
What would you do to survive? And would you be willing to risk it all to help others? I would recommend this movie to anyone that likes a new spin on sci fi movies. And anyone that likes a good medium of action flicks.
