Winter Great Reads, Just in Time for Spring

by Kassandra Lamb ~ Oops, I forgot to post these here. Not too late for these reviews of a couple of great reads.

A Treasure to Die For, A Seaside Cove Bed and Breakfast Mystery #1, by Terry Ambrose, $2.99 or Free in KU couple of great reads

You don’t see many cozy mysteries written by men, nor with male protagonists. This one has both, and it’s a gem. Terry Ambrose is an artist, only he uses words to paint a picture. The setting, a California coastal town, and the characters come to life.

The latter incl...

Scones and Secrets: Crafting Scones Recipes for my Tea and Tarot Mysteries

by Kirsten Weiss ~ Did you know that recipe ingredients are not copyrighted?

However, the description for how to make the recipe is copyrighted. This can be a challenge, since there are only so many ways to write, “Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.”

But since so many cozy mystery readers enjoy getting recipes in the back of their baking-themed mysteries, it’s a challenge that must be tackled.

I’ve gotten around it by crafting scones recipes...

When My Muse Surprises Me

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I had a fun time guest posting last week on a blog called Writers Who Kill. I was talking about times when my muse surprises me with some new twist that I didn’t see coming.

Pop over and check out When My Muse Jumps Up and Yells “Surprise!” on WWK.

Here’s a teaser…

We writers, even seat-of-the-pantsers like myself, tend to have a pretty good idea of where a story is going as we’re writing it. And by the time we are midway into a series, we know our protagonists quit...

How Our Past Affects Our Present

by Kassandra Lamb ~ Following up on my post in November about the Fickleness of Human Memory, I thought I’d rerun this post (that was originally a guest post on someone else’s blog) on how our past affects our present experiences. This was a subplot of my recent release, Malignant Memories, when my main character, a female chief of police, realizes how much a memory, which has been lurking in her subconscious for decades, has affected her happiness (or lack thereof).

Today, some people still ...

The Flip Side of the Quest for Work vs Life Balance

by Kassandra Lamb ~ If you’ve been reading our blog for a while now, you know that I have struggled with work vs life balance ever since I started writing fiction. Doing better with this has been at the center of every list of New Year’s goals/resolutions for well over a decade now.

At first I was obsessed with the writing, pounding on my keyboard night and day, sometimes forgetting to eat (or even sleep). Then—once I had a few books published—promoting and running the business end of thi...

Are You a Bah-Humbug Person? (an encore)

by Kassandra Lamb ~ This seemed like a good time to re-run this post on dealing with the holidays if you are a bah-humbug person.

I hate to say it since I love the holiday myself, but Christmas is not for everyone. Some people just barely tolerate it, some flat out hate it, and some find it incredibly depressing. And the fact that everybody else is so gleefully looking forward to it just makes their lack of pleasure in it that much more pronounced.

If you are a bah-humbug person, or know s...

Best Interview Ever!

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I had a lot of fun last week being interviewed by Lynn Slaughter over at her cyber home. She asks great questions that dig deep. I think it may be my best interview ever!

We get into all kinds of topics, including how my background as a psychotherapist has influenced my writing (in more ways than you might think), how obsessed I was in the early years of my writing journey, and how my protagonist, Chief of Police Judith Anderson, is growing and changing in my newest series...
