10 Ways to Make Your Imperfect Holiday a Happy One
by Kassandra Lamb
(Note: If you read my teaser last week and you were expecting more about psychopaths today, I’ve postponed that post to January. I decided it was getting too close to Christmas to be talking about such a grim subject, so instead here’s a post on how to keep the holidays from stressing you out!)
This time of year is supposed to be joyful–full of good food, time spent with family, tinsel and bright lights and lots of packages under the tree.
We tend to have high expectations for...

Sometimes Truth is Stranger than Fantasy
by Kassandra Lamb
Today, I’m over at Marcy Kennedy’s cyber-home, talking about how Truth is sometimes stranger than any fantasy an author can make up. Check it out!

Serial killer, Ted Bundy, SMILING as he leaves the Leon County, Fla. Courthouse where he was just convicted of murder, 1979 (from The Florida Memory Project–CC-BY-SA 3.0 Wikimedia Commons)
When Marcy graciously invited me to guest post on her blog (thanks so much, Marcy!), I wondered what the heck I would write about since I write tr...

The Things We Take For Granted…
by Kassandra Lamb, on behalf of the whole misterio press gang
All of us here at misterio have lived a few decades (we’re not sayin’ how many) and we’ve had our share of trials and tribulations, some of which have found their way into our stories.
But today we wanted to focus on the good stuff in life. And when we stopped to think about what we were most grateful for, we discovered that it was all too easy to take those things for granted.
So starting off on that theme is Kirsten Weiss.

More Gallivanting… Come visit the FBI of the past with me
by Kassandra Lamb
Today I’m at K.B. Owen’s cyber-home talking about the history of the FBI. Please come over and check it out. And don’t forget to enter my contest HERE.
Criminal Minds and the History of the FBI
Criminal Minds is a favorite TV show in our household. My husband likes it because the interaction of the characters reminds him of the teamwork he experienced during his working years at another government agency. I like the psychology involved (for the most part; sometimes they get som...

Cruisin’ the Blogosphere (and a Contest)
by Kassandra Lamb
I’m gallivanting around cyberspace over the next couple weeks on a blog tour for my new thriller, Fatal Forty-Eight. And I’ve got a contest going through the 8th of December! (see below)
Today I’m over at Jami Gold’s place with The Psychology of Emotions–talking about the ins and outs of emotions, and how we can get them twisted together sometimes (with tips for writers).
As a retired psychotherapist turned mystery writer, there is one subject that I k...

What Is a Psychopath? (plus a New Release & Giveaway)
by Kassandra Lamb
Today is Veterans Day–a day set aside to honor those who have served in the military to protect our country. I don’t think there are enough words in the English language to express how grateful we should be to military personnel today.
They are facing a new breed of enemy that may very well be the most evil our world has produced to date. When I watch the news reports about ISIS and other groups like them, I shudder.
These are not religious fanatics. These are psychopaths using...

This is Your Brain on Stress (encore)
by Kassandra Lamb
Eeck! I just realized I have no post written for today. The other misterio authors will tell you that isn’t like me. I’m organized to the point of being annoying obsessed awe-inspiring.
I’m pretty stressed out right now, getting ready to launch a new book, and I am NOT one of those people who thrives on stress and deadlines (which is why I try to be organized waaay in advance).
So I decided that an appropriate “encore” post for today would be one that I posted almost two years...

Spooky Nights
by Vinnie Hansen
As night falls, we advance toward the 100-year-old mausoleum in the cemetery. There is no electricity. Candles and a kerosene lamp light the way.

Vinnie reading by lamplight
Here in Santa Rosa Memorial Park, I join seven other mystery writers to read our spooky stories in the echoing marble chambers.
Even though we are competing with the Giants playing in the World Series, the annual event draws a standing-room-only crowd.
No one rose from the dead around us except in our tales.

The Most Haunted House in New Orleans
by Kirsten Weiss
We’re hosting a Rafflecopter giveaway to celebrate the Halloween release of my new book, The Hoodoo Detective! The prize? An ARC of the novel!
But first, a bit about the most haunted house in New Orleans…
In The Hoodoo Detective, Riga Hayworth travels to New Orleans for her paranormal reality TV show. The book opens mid-way through shooting, and Riga has found little to get excited about in the haunted houses they’ve filmed so far.
What would have happened if they’d filmed at the...

Halloween Haiku, Just for You
by Kassandra Lamb (on behalf of the whole gang)
Our own Kirsten Weiss is hosting a Hoodoo Halloween Blog Party this weekend to celebrate the upcoming release of her new book, The Hoodoo Detective. She also suggested we do a haiku post for Halloween, so we decided to make this our contribution to her party.
And since this was Kirsten‘s idea, she gets to go first:
Footfalls crush dried leaves
Pumpkins cast malformed shadows
Gimme candy now.
Shannon discovered she was even more mathematically challeng...
