Reviews of Some Great Reads (an Off-Week Goodie)

by Kassandra Lamb ~ Since I read a fair amount, I’ve started a new feature on my own website—reviews of some great reads I’ve encountered recently. I try to focus on first-in-series books that are free or 99 cents, but I also include some full-price books that I think are worth the price.

Check out my first installment, including these three books: reviews of some great reads -- What The Cat Knew

PD Workman’s FREE first in series ~

I only like a certain kind of paranormal mystery, one that uses the paranormal aspects as a spice. ...

Horse Racing is In My Blood, and in My Books! (plus a New Release)

Horse racing is in my blood, and in theirs. Two of my colts at my Maryland farm.

by Sasscer Hill ~ I have loved racehorses all my life, and I believe this passion transfers itself to the written pages of my mysteries. I lived on a Maryland horse farm for more than 30 years, where I bred, raised, broke, and raced Thoroughbreds. Horse racing is truly in my blood!

The Thoroughbred racetrack is the anchor around which I build my mystery‑thrillers. I am grateful that my experiences with horse racing drove me to write my first Nikki Latre...

Writing a Crossover Novel (plus a New Release)

by Kirsten Weiss ~ Writing a crossover novel has some unique challenges and some interesting payoffs.

writing a crossover novel

If you grew up in the eighties, you may remember those crossover TV specials. (Simon and Simon crossed with Magnum PI was my favorite, and Murder She Wrote also did a crossover with Magnum.)

I’d already been toying with crossovers in a very small way. My Wits’ End and Doyle Witch series take place in the same small, mountain town, and characters cross between series.

But when sever...

Where the Research Takes Us: Burning Metal and Killer Freezers

by Kassandra Lamb (on behalf of the whole crew) ~ Every once in a while we like to share some of the odder tidbits we’ve gleaned, from where the research takes us.

where the research takes us: Kassandra Lamb I’ll start things off this time. Did you know that metal can burn?

I did not know that factoid, until I researched what would happen when a small plane crashes shortly after takeoff. I had questions like what noise would it make, would it explode, etc.

In my attempts to find answers, I stumbled upon a Facebook group cal...

A Crime Writers’ Interview (and a New misterio Author!)

by Kassandra Lamb ~ Last week, I mentioned that we have a new misterio author. She ended up joining us after some discussion, all of which started with a casual comment she made on an author board (Sisters in Crime, to be exact) that she was looking into the indie-publishing option.

Her comment caught my eye and I messaged her about misterio press. And now, she’s coming on board. So please help us welcome our new misterio author, Liz Boeger.

serendipitous moments that lead to big things

A friend of my husband’s was flying home after a visit with hubs (before he was my hubs) and happened to end up sitting next to a young woman on the plane. They were both fairly quiet people, but it was a long flight and eventually they struck up a conversation.

They celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary this past yea...
