ExcerptThe bell above the door jingled announcing another customer, and Beth tried to hurry. Getting behind would only make it worse.

“Hey, B. You have a visitor,” Tommy yelled.

Beth sighed. She hated when he called her that, but telling him did no good whatsoever. Tommy was twenty-three and felt the need to give everyone a nickname. She had to admit B was better than the first nickname he’d come up with for her—Bumble Bee.

Cutting the sandwich in half, Beth placed it along with chips and a homemade pickle on a plate and brought it out with her to give to Mr. Keller. “Here you go.”

He smiled back at her and took the sandwich. “Thank you, dear.”

Beth wiped her hands on her apron and started toward the counter where Tommy was chatting with someone. When she saw who it was, she grinned.

Then Beth noticed the man standing behind Nicole. Drew Parker.

No. No, no, no, no. This was not supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to know anything about her life outside the club . . . the lifestyle.

The only thing that made her feel a little better was the look on Drew’s face. Clearly, he hadn’t been expecting to see Beth any more than she’d been expecting to see him.

“Nicole. What are you doing here?” Beth asked through gritted teeth.

Her friend acted as if nothing were amiss. “We were working in the area and got hungry. I told Captain Parker and his crew that I knew of a great place for lunch, so here we are.”

Beth was going to strangle her.

She walked in slowly, looking from side to side in the empty room. It was dark and gloomy, but that could have been due to the fact that the sun had already begun to set. Lily reached over and flipped the light switch. Nothing. Mrs. Knight had failed to mention that the electricity had been cut off.Deciding that she needed to make the most of the dwindling sunlight so she could see the room, she wandered around looking for windows. There was a small one above the sink in the kitchen that helped brighten things a bit when she opened the blinds. Not bad, she thought. Not good, but not bad. There was a little bathroom with a shower and what looked to be one bedroom on the other side of the living room.As she walked further into the dark apartment, she instantly noticed how warm it was. Slipping her jacket off and dropping it to the floor, she stopped to flip the light switch on the opposite wall by the bedroom as well, just to make sure. Still nothing. Frustrated, she fumbled her way through the darkness until she found the doorknob to what she hoped was the bedroom. Right as she started to turn the handle it began to spin in her hand. Before she realized what was happening the door was pulled open swiftly, causing her to stumble forward and land against a very solid chest.  “Shit!” she yelled, trying to right herself without putting her hands all over this… stranger. I’m not really one for blabbing about myself, but I can give you a few starters, if you’re interested.
I’m a mum of four kids, two girls and two boys and I’m married to a wonderful man who puts up with my crap.
We live in an area near Southampton (UK) called the New Forest, which is very beautiful. There’s ponies, donkeys and wild deer and cattle all over the place, so it makes it very interesting living here at times.
I design for a living, but I am self taught, so I have a long way to go.
I’m a very down to earth thirty year old and yeah, I dabble with writing.

Tell the readers a little about you.I’m a rather sarcastic and slightly insane woman of thirty (ish) and I totally blame my four kids (and hubby) for my mentality lol. I live in the south of England in a place called The New Forest and I’m not too far from where the Titanic was built. I used to be a stay at home mum, but now I’m a stay at home mum who runs her own graphics design and swag business.
What genre you mostly write in and why?I’m happy to write any genre that appeals to me. The only genre I can’t write (or read for that matter) is horror/gore. Oh, and I won’t write anything involving dino or tentacle porn. lol
Tell us your latest news?With the kids going back to school soon (does a happy dance) I will really be focusing my time in pushing my business forward and taking on a lot more work. I’ll hopefully be writing more, too.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Self confidence. I have zero amounts of it. Not just in my writing, but in my designs, too. I always find when writing, that I write for myself, so maybe people won’t like what I put onto paper. Will they hate it, is it too fast paced etc . . ?
What is your least favorite part of the writing process?Fleshing out the storyline, adding descriptions etc . . . I love writing dialogue, but really struggle at descriptions. It’s all in my head, but getting it down on paper can be tough.
Describe your writing style in ten words or less.Ooo, that’s hard! I cover so many genres . . . Eclectic, sarcastic, random . . .
Is there a message in any of your novels that you want readers to grasp?With ‘Pain’, the content is pretty self explanatory. It’s all about a girl who’s fed up with the crap in romance novels these days. With The Northern Gate, although I don’t see it as a religious story, at it’s core, it’s about who mankind has twisted religion to suit their own needs, wants and desires.
What are your current projects?I have The Eastern Shore ready for editing and I’m writing Carpe Diem (the second part to Pain) at the moment. Those are my big ones. I have a few smaller novella stories to tweak before they go into editing, too.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I have a few on the go, like always. The Eastern Shore is book 2 to The Northern Gate. It follows Tabitha now that she’s with Nathan and they’re not on Earth any more. It’s fun filled, but has some very serious points to it. Carpe Diem is book 2 to Pain. This story picks up where Pain left off. It centres around Princess and her Prick-a-Doodle-Doo as they find a balance to work, they relationship and other things . . . as well as the blog posts that readers have loved so much.
Are there misconceptions that people have about your book?  If so, explain.The Edelyn Legacy (The northern Gate etc . . . ) is built on misconceptions. Man’s idea of religion, twisting it to suit his way of thinking, to suit his way of life etc . . . Religion, at its core, is nothing like how it was first intended. I’ve always debated several aspects of religion, especially with my mother and although I’ve been baptized into the Mormon faith (still Christian), I’ve always questioned everything about any faith. Some things make perfect sense to me, others really, really, don’t.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?Not really. Pain was very blunt and too the point. The second book should be out soon, hopefully, and then book three. After I’ve written them all, then maybe I’ll end up kicking myself about leaving things out etc . . .

Ava’s heartbeat quickened, her palms growing moist even in the brisk cold. She flipped the safety off the pepper spray, her thumb poised over the button. As she neared the bridge marking the halfway point to her dorm, she glanced over her shoulder quickly. Seeing nothing, she hurried over the bridge, cursing the burned-out bulb that left it in darkness.
Suddenly, a stifling feeling overcame her—like a dark blanket had been thrown over her head to suffocate her—and she whirled around, her backpack clattering to the ground as she whipped the pepper spray out of her pocket and held it at arm’s length. Ava gulped for air, eyes frantically darting about, and the trembling hand holding the pepper spray flailing as wildly as her gaze. She was sure someone was there. She swore she could feel them. She stood frozen with fear, waiting . . . watching.
After a few long moments, she shook her head, glad nobody had witnessed her desperate panic. With a heavy sigh, she pocketed her pepper spray, embarrassed at her own ridiculousness. She had to stop this nonsense. She was driving herself crazy. It was just a dream making her jumpy, nothing else.
Just a crazy, scary dream.
Ava bent to pick up her backpack, sliding it onto her shoulder as she scanned the horizon one more time. With a self-deprecating chuckle, she turned around to continue home.
Only to stop short in terror.
A man—a huge man—stood before her, mouth twisted in rage. He towered over her, at least six and a half feet tall, his shoulders wide, and arms banded with muscle. Shaved close to his head, his dark hair shadowed his skull, and his intimidating appearance was only enhanced by the jagged scar running down the right side of his face, from forehead to chin. He didn’t wear a coat, only a tight, black shirt and fatigues, black boots on his feet, and a wide leather belt with a mean-looking gun holstered at his hip.
It couldn’t be. But it was.
It was him. The man from her nightmares.
Ava scrambled back, but he reached out in a flash, gripping her upper arms and lifting her up so her toes barely brushed the ground. One hand slid to her throat, and he held her easily, pulling her closer to his frightening face.
“Please,” she begged, the word catching as she fought to breathe.
The man’s glare tightened, and Ava stared in morbid fascination at his mismatched eyes—blue and green—odd and vividly terrifying. She struggled, reaching for her pepper spray, only to have it slip from her fingers as she kicked out at the man.
He responded by laughing humorlessly, flipping her around and banding one arm around her torso. His grip was like iron, and she could barely breathe.
“Please,” she said again, dizziness closing in. “I can’t,” she gasped.
A press of metal to her temple transformed her fearful trembles into horrified shudders. She had no doubt. She was going to die. Her eyelids fluttered shut in defeat as he cocked the gun, the loud click echoing off the trees.
Then, a flash of black, a gust of wind, and suddenly she could breathe again. The man’s grip loosened, but he didn’t release her.
“Damn you,” he growled. “Stay out of this!”
Ava pushed him, her efforts in vain, as he hitched her up in response, tucking her under his arm like a bag of groceries. She kicked her legs, flailing desperately as the man spun about, pointing his gun into the darkness.
“Show yourself, you coward!”
The same flash of black, another blast of wind, and Ava fell to the ground, her head cracking on the concrete. She curled onto her side, moaning, lifting a hand to the back of her head, and squinting in shock at the blood that came away, streaking across her trembling palm.
Low grunts and the crack of bone on flesh floated on the air toward her, muzzy with her disorientation. She tried to focus, but could only make out two dark figures exchanging blows. Ava tried to sit up, but collapsed back onto the icy ground, overcome by a shock of dizziness and nausea.
Suddenly, the two dark beings seemed to meld into one, and in the next moment, she felt herself floating. She blinked; a face took form above her briefly, the features cast in shadow.
“Do I . . . do I know you?” she mumbled, fighting for consciousness.
“I’ve got you,” a low voice replied, and Ava nodded as a cool palm stroked her forehead, and the darkness consumed her.
