Favorite Christmas Presents: 2022 Edition
This isn’t a Christmas gift, per se. To celebrate wrapping up The Goblets Immortal trilogy with Death’s Key (out now from Flame Tree Press), I decided to splurge and get some some Tolkien books…and some cool bookends to hold them in place (from Etsy.)

Which book from this fab stack should I read first? I’ve read THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS already. THE SILMARILLION has been on my TBR list for a while, but THE FALL OF NUMENOR sounds fantastic. What say you?

8 Simple Ways to NOT Keep Your Goals

What follows is a sarcastic stab at goal-keeping. This is not a one-size-fits-all attempt to cram a (failure) method down your throat. So, with that out of the way, I present to you…
8 Simple Ways to NOT Keep Your Goals:
Don’t make any goals. You can’t fail at what you don’t even start, am I right? No? If you don’t make any goals, you’re already losing—I mean, winning. Yes, I definitely meant to say winning.
Procrastinate. It can wait. Seriously. Success can always wait. S...

10 Books I Hope to Read in 2023

The list grows and grows. Every week it seems I’m finding awesome-looking new reads to add to my TBR (to-be-read) list on Goodreads.
Next year’s book goal is 25 (though I secretly aim for 50 every year.) Here are a few that are toward the top of my TBR pile:
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas (I started it but I don’t know if I’ll be finished by ’23)Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. MaasKingdom of Ash by Sarah J. MaasFairy Tale by Stephen KingThe Book Eaters by Sunyi DeanS...December 16, 2022
Imposter Alert: Words of Encouragement for Self-Doubters

I recently read part of a letter that Tolkien wrote. He had imposter syndrome (the feeling that you’re an imposter, a fake, a fraud. Never good enough, no matter how much success you have under your belt.) What are some good ways to deal with that feeling? I’m seriously asking for myself, because most of the time, I feel clueless, like I’m just making this all up as I go along and that at any moment someone is going to reveal the man behind the curtain and I’ll lose everything.
Here are a...

A Quick Look at TROP and Why I Love It

This is an opinion piece. I respect that many people don’t like the way The Rings of Power show has been handled. That’s okay. People are allowed not to like something and I’m not here to convince anyone that they have to think one way or the other. But a lot of people are enjoying this show. Their enjoyment does not take away from Tolkien’s great works. It might just inspire them to dig deeper into the lore and discover things for themselves.
With that said…
Many have strong feelings ...

How to for Sure Fail at Writing and Publishing

What follows is for comedic and informative purposes, so take all with a grain of salt and remember that no advice (or joke) is one-size-fits-all.
Don’t read. Like, don’t read anything. Especially not the guidelines for submissions when you’re ready to hit submit to that snazzy-looking ‘zine or publisher/agent. And books/stories? Please. It’s not like anyone will ever ask you for comparative titles.(Note that this post is extremely sarcastic and that ...

Teasing the Tea: Drink These Fabulous Teas and Tell Me Your Thoughts!
I like tea. Tea doesn’t make me sad.
Here is a list of a few teas that I’ve enjoyed in the past and think some of you might like as well.

When Bag Ladies Tea’s Novel Teas are good, they are really good. It’s a black tea (English Breakfast) with quotes about books on each tea tag. Note that the bags are not individually wrapped, so I recommend storing them in an airtight container or Zip Lock baggie. Note that I drink my te...
