Testing, One, Two, Three…

Not entirely sure what’s going on, but for some reason every time I try to post a new article all of the permalinks on the site go away.
If you can read this, it means everything is fixed. Maybe.
Update: seems to be working again. Knock on wood.

Two and a Half Years Later…

Image courtesy of Clker-Free-Vector-Images, via Pixabay.comTwo and a half years. Two and a half years since I published Curveball Issue 35: City of Knives, City of Glass and got to work on Issue 36. Two and half miserable, frustrating years, but I did it. Curveball Issue 36: The Titan’s Shadow is now, finally, after all this time, out.
63,126 words. That’s the final word count. It’s on the site now. It’s almost 4AM. I’m a little fried. I think I’ll get some sleep.

Artemis LaFleur sinks deeper into his overstuffed chair, lost in the sound of waves crashing against the beach. Sunlight streams through the thick-paned window, warming his face, and he closes his eyes as he momentarily loses himself in the comfort of it. The moment stretches into minutes, and the minutes stretch even farther on… until at last, almost regretfully, he opens his eyes.
It’s a trap. H...

Hey Look, I Have A Website Again
Photo courtesy of Roven Images, via Pexels.com
Photo courtesy of Roven Images, via Pexels.comOn December 7, 2018 I got so angry with the Drupal CMS upgrade path from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 that I basically set my website on fire and walked away. It led to one of my more epic rants on Twitter, which I’ve screencapped and included below for posterity:

And with that I did what I said I would: I started migrating 3,401 Drupal nodes — by hand — over to WordPress.
Most...

Image by Deva Williamson via UnsplashToday I am 49 years old. That’s… weird. Not as weird as next year, when I turn 50, but still… pretty weird.
My 48th year felt like I was trying to cross a deep riverbed of slow-moving tar. I was trying to migrate the last of my content (Help Desk) into the new site — it’s not finished yet. I was trying to finish writing Curveball Issue 36 — it’s not finished yet, and it just crested 40,000 words. Ugh. I wrestled with terrible, crippling writer’s block...

CEO OF UNIQQUE: No I didn’t, and to be honest I’m pretty disappointed, Jim.

Superhero Fiction Virtual Convention: Day Two (Super Powers)
The moderator and panelists for SFVC Day Two.
The moderator and panelists for SFVC Day Two. The Superhero Fiction Virtual Convention continued yesterday with a panel discussing how we create super powers in superhero fiction. I participated on this panel, along with Jeffrey H. Haskell (moderator), Samantha Bryant, Karen Diem, Michael C. Bailey, and Lucas Flint.
It was a blast. Discussion topics ranged from how we set the basic rules for powers in a story universe, to how we tie powers to characters, and wrapped up with a discussion a...

Superhero Virtual Convention: Day One (Superhero Romances)
The moderator and panelists for SHVC Day One.
The moderator and panelists for SHVC Day One. Ive mentioned it on Twitter (a few times) but for some reason I never posted it here: superhero-fiction.com is hosting a virtual conference about writing superhero fiction. Every day, Monday through Friday, its streaming a discussion panel at 6PM EST, each day a new topic. Today kicked the whole thing off, and it focused on one of the most popular versions of Superhero Fiction today: romance.

ALEX: Sorry to hear about the voting fiasco, Boss.
THE BOSS: Yes it appears as if my plans have been thwarted.
THE BOSS: it would have been perfect, Alex. Our control of these voting computers would have granted us total sway over elections in the US for decades. It was untraceable! There was no accountability! No method of verifying that all the votes had been tallied correctly! It was perfect! I cant help...
