256
At last, truly, a number to be proud of.
Once upon a time, if you were to have called Help Desk a "two-bit comic" I would have shrugged my shoulders and, if I was feeling argumentative, pointed out that it stopped being a two-bit comic after the third comic was posted. But now I can say "actually, it's a 256 byte comic. FYI."
It will take 8,192 comics to reach a full 1K. That's what, another 45 years?

Everything Old is New Again: Why KDP Select Probably isn't Good for Self-Published Authors
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
- Ecclesiastes 1:9
If you're at all interested in self-publishing and eBooks, then you probably know about Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Amazon.com's service that allows authors to load their eBooks directly into the Amazon storefronts. Using KDP, I'm able to sell Pay Me, Bug! through the Amazon.com website, and also directly through the Kindle application.
KDP appears to be wildly...

The Points Between - Chapter 14
Daylight's public library was quite modern compared to the rest of the town, and Matthew was surprised to learn that all public records and a very comprehensive selection of newspapers were archived digitally. Mrs. Elliot, a middle-aged woman with evenly-dyed reddish-brown hair, was quite excited when Matthew asked about them.
"Mr. Vernon spent six years setting up those archives." Mrs. Elliot had a slightly gravelly voice that suggested she was a long-time smoker. "It was his obsession in a w...

What the Hell!? Con 2012
Once again I will be headed off to What the Hell?! Con at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. If you're in Greensboro Feb 10-12, stop by and say hello.
I love going to this con. Last year was a little awkward, though--I showed up with a very complicated plan that hinged on the use of an ink jet printer, and because I forgot to bring a power cord I had absolutely nothing to show for it. My display consisted of my website displayed on a netbook.
Seriously. It was very sad.
This year is going to...

A Website That Doesn't Currently Exist (Part Two)
Those of you who listen to the podcasts of The Points Between may be curious about the intro/exit music I use in each episode. If you're one of those people, here's the full song -- bask in my attempt to channel the Sisters of Mercy:

The Points Between - Chapter 13
The sun beat down on the back of Matthew's neck as he bent over his tablet, pencil scratching against paper. Children shouted happily in the distance as they ran through Bridge Street Park, rambunctious and carefree, their parents watching with deceptive indifference. He was drawing today, and drawing was different from painting—for Matthew, it was almost the opposite of painting. He painted when he knew what he wanted to capture; he drew when he wanted to see what he might find. Today he...

The Points Between Returns! Finally.
At the end of November I had a plan. The plan included getting Pay Me, Bug! prepped for distribution on Smashwords and iTunes, as well as continuing updates of The Points Between, as well as continuing to update Help Desk, as well as, you know, doing all those Christmas things people do in December.1
Unfortunately, December had other plans.
First week of December I realized the podcasts were out of sync with the posted chapters of The Points Between. The most recent podcast was for Chapter 10, ...
