Hollow World—a Novel by Michael J. Sullivan

I’d received an advanced review copy from Michael J. Sullivan, but I paid for mine. I was one of the backers on Kickstarter. I’d briefly communicated with Mr. Sullivan before participating in his project. He assured me I’d like the protagonist after disclosing with him what I don’t like to read.

He was right, I did like Ellis Rogers.

Ellis is a 58-years old MIT graduate living with a crippled marriage and failing lungs. He’s expected to die soon of pulmonary fibrosis, and his wife barely notice...

From Now Until Halloween

August 29th thru September 1st

I’ll be at LoneStarCon3, the 71st World Science Fiction Convention in San Antonio, Texas. I will be joining Tim Marquitz (author of the Demon Squad Series + several other titles) to promote Manifesto UF, an anthology with twenty-three urban fantasy stories. One of those stories is mine, Bloody Red Sun of Fantastic L.A.

Beyond the Veil by Tim Marquitz

Tim Marquitz sent me this book around the time it was released. Tim knows to anticipate an honest review from me. This was not a ‘rounded up’ four-star, it’s an “I can’t quite give it 5-stars” review.

Although this is book 5 in the series, there are a lot of ‘first times’ to mention. This was Tyson Mauermann’s editorial debut. For those who don’t know Tyson, he is ‘the’ book reviewer for Speculative Book Review– and here I have an opportunity to critique his work– heh-heh.The editing was 5-sta...

Review Fifty Shades of Decay

First off, I have a story in this anthology. ‘I Was Legend’ is a fun play reflective of Richard Matheson’s ‘I Am Legend.’ It is a story where loneliness and desperation turn one man’s hope into his doom. A handful of my friends also found their way into this collection, and to be fair, I will not comment on any of their works, (which I thought were fantastic, but clearly I have a bias.)

Some of my own taboos were stretched a little further than their comfort zone, and I’m no prude. I found all...

The Latest Book Reviews for The Wrong Way Down

This is an author’s insight into my first novel, The Wrong Way Down. The Wrong Way Down is a fantastically imaginative story, and it was not my first book, but the first to ever make it into print. (I did not self-publish. I may eventually do so with future books, but I have not self-published my first two novels.)

TheWrongWayDown _200x300_dpi72

The Wrong Way Down is a fantasy story set in a dangerous world, and written with an edgy darkness, intended for a 16+ audience. The tale is about a fledgling priestess who makes dec...

D. Robert Grixti’s Sun-Bleached Winter

I don’t usually showcase an author’s text in my reviews because it requires too much typing on my part, but D. Robert Grixti’s prose was exceptional. Here is an excerpt from Sun Bleached Winter,

Railway

Night has fallen. We’re eating dried biscuits by the light of the campfire. The flames glow weakly, dimly. Dying. Flakes of snow drift down from the sky and threaten to bury everything under a blanket of white. Nothing can live here.

Atmosphere––Mr. Grixti does it very well. The bleak world inhabited b...

50 Shades of Decay

Angelic Knight Press has put together a new anthology. I can proudly say I am one of 50 authors to have been selected to be in this collection. It is a collection of zombie stories – Valentine’s Day short stories – okay, flat out, it is zombie smut.

Decay

It was an opportunity for talented erotica writers to join with talented horror writers – and one fantasy author – to showcase their humorous sides. I don’t know the bigger names in erotica, but the names I recognized from horror were Armand Rosami...

Strange Bedfellows

Some of you may have read Crossing Mother’s Grave. Did you think it was boring? Please let this critic know that you agree with him so I can move on. I’ll go back to the steady paycheck of watching fat people die in hospitals. Thanks to the new insurance tax Congress has forced upon us, Cardiac Monitor Technicians will be in high demand.

Year’s End– My Favorite Book Read this Year

When the year is over, I like to reflect upon the successes and failures of the past year. I try to assess damages I’ve done, as well as be proud of my victories. But I’m not sharing those things here.

Among the things I was most proud of accomplishing this year was interviewing several talented writers. Among them was screenwriter/ novelist Edward M. Erdelac, author of the book, Merkabah Rider; Tales of a High Plains Drifter.
