Baseball Favorites
It’s the All-Star break for major league baseball so it’s the two days of the year I pay attention to the sport until October. I’m a Cubs fan so the regular season is normally painful. By October, I’ve accepted the fact my Cubbies won’t be in the World Series and I can comfortably cheer for whichever National League team is playing.
So Monday evening, I settled back to watch the Home Run Derby. Prince Felder looked pretty good, I thought and I kind of knew who he was. The next batter came up a...

Audio Books: Why I Love Them.
I love to read. I have books piled, shelved, stacked, and shoved into spaces all over my home. I even have two e-Readers. These books call to me; a siren’s song of you must open and read me.

An Intro to RWA (for our Readers)
Around this time every summer (or winter for our southern hemispherian readers) anyone who follows romance authors around the blogosphere starts to hear more and more about her favorite storytellers “getting ready for RWA.”
For authors, “getting ready” means suffering through finding new shoes, a fancy top for the RITA/Golden Heart awards ceremony, trying to finish your edits (due the day before you fly out—this is a true, current events story) whilst accomplishing the shopping and then, maybe...

Star Spangled Memories

Photo: DT Krippene
Fourth of July will always be the bandstand of summer for me. Men burn meat over an open fire, beer flows like the Mississippi in spring, pools slosh with white caps, hotdogs become an endangered species, ice cream puddles in vats, and fireworkscloud the sky with enough phosphoric haze to create its own weather pattern. Doesn’t get any better than that.
Memorable fourths fill a dozen photo albums in our family. The kids spent most of their summers at grandpa’s place, where th...
