Guest Post: The Origins of Peter; M Pepper Langlinais on The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller
The old adage is that writers get asked, “Where do you get your ideas?” And the answer is, generally, “Everywhere and nowhere.” There are times, of course, when a writer can pinpoint the moment the idea for a story or book came to them, but writing is a long process, and as time wears on, the writer’s mind is so enswirled with what he or she is doing, the origin of the book begins to be lost in the fog.I can say this about The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller: It started as a Sherlockstory. At...

Star Wars Opinion Piece On Writing From Author & Washington Post Columnist Andrew Hiller
It was May 19, 1999. The air smelled of butter . The marquis glittered with thousands of speckled lights designed to bring you back in time. In this case, not to the 1920's when the Ziegfeld Theater was at its height, but the late 1970's when a seven year old kid was first introduced to Han, Luke, and Leia. In that line, excitement fizzed, it popped, and some people practically goobered. This was Star Wars. This was a chance to go back to our childhood, an opportunity experience something new...

Guest Post Exclusive From Author J.J. Green
Living in a foreign country has been a source of inspiration for many writers, and I’ve certainly found this to be the case in my time in Taiwan. The sights, sounds and smells of Taipei, the stories of my Taiwanese friends, and Taiwan’s history and culture have all contributed to my novella, Death Switch.Set in the near future, Death Switch tells the story of a young woman, Yi-ling, who has always tried to conform to the wishes of her parents, but finds that whatever she does is never good en...

Guest Post From Author Mara Lynn Johnstone
Today's guest post is from author Mara Lynn Johnstone on the inspiration for her fun new book Sweeping Changes!
Sweeping Changes began with a song on the radio. The chorus was "I used to rule the world / Seas would rise when I gave the word / Now in the morning I sleep alone / Sweep the streets I used to own."
My first thought was that the song was probably about a breakup, but it would make a fascinating story if taken literally. A while later, I was doing a writing challenge with friends that...

ANTHONY
One of my short stories for the month of July might become a novel. If anyone likes it I'll finish it as a full book.

CHAPTER 1
When I was a child home from boarding school in the summer, I’d go out to the middle of the woods nearby. There I’d stand in front of the crumbling old mansion. Not wanting to waste any time I’d always head straight for the cellar with my torch light.Down the cracked stone steps I went, careful not to breathe in too deep the black mould I could see growing on the wall...

Kindle Unlimited
Now through September my books are part of Kindle Unlimited and free to members. I want to see if they sell better in this program, or if sales stay the same. Happy reading! Because I'm paid royalties by actual pages read under the rules of KDP Select. My choice, just an experiment to see if it works.

31 Stories in 31 Days Update
I've worked out that I can write a roughly 1500 word short story in 1 day, with kids, one of whom is a baby. I can only do this if I don't do anything else though. Between errands, taking care of the kids, house cleaning and other tasks, if I want to get a story finished in 24 hours, I can't spend any time online or on Netflix. My distractions.
I can manage to give up the internet and show watching for a month if it means I'll succeed at this challenge. It's the first time I've tried anything...
