Writing Revived

So I've gone back to writing the first version of Flutterby Girl. lol!

I know, I'm weird. I'm up and down, off and on, round and round with my writing. The reason I abandoned version 1 of FG was because I got mad at myself for adding Jaclyn into the book. I realised today that this is a good thing. The Keystone, in which Jaclyn is the main character, has a hand on the cover, and so does the cover of Flutterby Girl! So it's right fitting that she should be in FG. It suits in my mind now anyway....

So Many Ideas, So Little Time

Not a speck of writing done today. I haven't started a new version of Flutterby Girl yet because I'm stuck trying to think up a profound first sentence. Something that hooks the reader like CALL ME ISHMAEL or whatever.

Also, I have a two year old. When she's awake she doesn't stop. It's just go go go with toddlers. And that means mummy doesn't get to write write write.
Maybe it won't be Flutterby Girl I write next. I had a dystopia vision play out in my mind like a blockbuster movie this...

False Starts

Today I deleted my 2nd start at Flutterby Girl. This happens every time I start writing a new book. I don't keep going till after 3 tries. Cuz third time's a charm? I don't know, it's annoying. I'm annoying. I get about 5000 words and 4 chapters in and then I quit because I hate the direction it starts to take. At least I get to know my characters better. I stick with the same names. Not always the same personalities though. By the 3rd try I usually know which personality is most interesting....

IWSG

Writing is my hobby and I really wish I could find other authors out there who write like I do. But I can't because my author voice is like no other. My plots develop of their own accord, I don't outline. My genres are mishmashed and I don't exactly write commercial fiction. And isn't that why a novelist writes? To make money at writing? Well yeah. I'm frustrated that my books don't sell viably, but it's expected. I write for myself and apparently not many other people like what I write. Oh w...

Right Then!

Okay, that's it. I'm determined now. I'm going to write a new book every month. I can do this! It's doable! Let's do it!
So yeah, short blog post, but there's nothing else to say really. Course, writing a book a month will take up all my spare time, so no more internet faffing from me for a while! Toodles. xx

Twelve Books To Date

I like to do word counts now and then. I figure when I've written 1 million fiction words I will officially have found my author voice. I'll be practiced at writing enough to have more confidence in each book. And of course it's an entertaining process getting to 1 million! I love to constantly practice at my writing. What better practice than to write?

Having my books on Smashwords means I can see all my book word counts. I added them up yesterday, just for fun. And the total to date is 683,0...

A Cause for Concern Guest Post from Author Geoffrey M. Gluckman

I wanted to take a different direction with a guest blog post today, because the current novel I'm writing deals with such disturbing subjects. The cause that's always been closest to my heart is the safety of children. I never had the strength to become a social worker, and I highly respect people who do. It sickens me that such atrocities still happen today.

Malvern, Tired, Too Many Tea Pots

Aw crap, I just realised I got up this morning at 4am. I mean, I knew what time I got up when I looked at my phone. Basically, I'm going to be very tired today. And what a day it is, weather wise. See:

It's a cloudy, dreary, quite cool morning. Yesterday was lovely and sunny and only partially cloudy. I went to the Malvern Shopping Park yesterday on my own. I took my comp with me and did a little writing of Flutterby Girl at Neros, but otherwise it was boring being on my own. Turns out I don't...

Allison Smith Guest Post; Tame the Beast

Growing up, I heard all of the fairy tales. Bedtime just wouldn’t be complete without them. Big ball gowns, fairy godmothers, true love kisses … the born romantic in me was hooked! Unfortunately, princes are hard to come by in everyday life. It really is quite the shame. But that never stopped me from daydreaming, and somewhere between finishing my degree and paying the big girl bills, the Ever After series was born, a new adult romance series inspired by (but not retellings of) five differen...
