Rules...what rules? - Why I love science fiction romance
I love science fiction books, particularly those with a dystopian and futuristic feel. My last three releases were sci fi erotic romances, all with varying plots that allowed me to make up my own rules of society.
Shana's Guardian takes place in an unspecified place in North America after a plague, a war, and severe solar flares wipe out civilization as we know it.

Rules of War takes place in Western Maryland as a war between the United States and a fictional island civilization called the Free Islands comes to an end.

Surrender takes place after a powerful race of aliens known as the Kall conquer Earth.

My latest sci fi erotic romance books are available on Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon CA, Barnes and Noble, and All Romance.
Despite my love for sci fi, the next book on my plate to write is contemporary, and my next release, A Strict Husband , is a western romance - with spankings, of course!

Book Spotlight: Tumbling in Time by Denise L. Wyant
Today I'm excited to feature Tumbling in Time by Denise L. Wyant, a fun and romantic urban fantasy short story. You can find my review of Tumbling in Time here.
Blurb:

As an immortal wizard with unique parentage, Arikk is blessed with all sorts of special abilities. He serves as a high ranking sentinel with the Guardian Peacekeepers, a demanding organization devoted to maintaining peace and justice through space and time. While Arikk has fun with Tasha – his Sunshine – he knows his life is too dangerous for them to be anything more than friends.
Will Tasha, a fragile human, survive the battles with otherworldly creatures? Will she be successful in winning the heart of her wizard?
Excerpt:
“You want to explain that?” Tasha’s voice quivered just a bit. She didn’t like the idea that he was worried. Arikk normally exuded cockiness.
“Okay, here goes . . . don’t say that I didn’t warn you.” Arikk raked a hand through his chin length midnight black waves. “It’s December 32, 2256. We’re in what’s left of Frederick, Maryland.”
“What is it now? Does the United States still exist? Who’s battling and why?” Tasha couldn’t help the questions spilling forth from her mouth. She twisted the silver ring on her middle finger as her eyes flitted around the church.
“The United States does not exist as you know it. Various demons have conquered and settled the continent. It has been divided into independent federations. We are in the nation state of Elpisa, which is ruled by a group of fallen angels known as the Erienese."
“My, wizard, you are well-informed. Although, I would expect nothing less of a sentinel.” A new, bass male voice carried from the entrance of what was once the sanctuary.
“Hurry up, cast your cloaking spell! What are you waiting for?” Tasha whispered, her tone urgent.
Arikk rose from behind the altar despite Tasha’s furious tugs at his jeans. A smile spread across his face. “Good to see you, too, Rafe.” Arikk’s warm eyes looked down at Tasha. “Come on, Sunshine, let me introduce you to one of the best fighters I know. I can assure you that even though he is a fallen angel, he is definitely one of the good guys.”
Tasha allowed Arikk to pull her to her feet. She turned toward Rafe and froze. He’s a fallen angel? No way. Not with that gilded hair that looked soft as silk, perfectly proportioned features, and those huge white-feathered wings, laced with gold. He’s got to be a full-blown up in the Heavens kind of angel.
“You can blink now, Sunshine.” Arikk chuckled. “We wouldn’t want his halo to get any bigger.”
“That’s not funny, and you know it.” Rafe retorted, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
“I’m sorry. I forgot that after all these years you still take your fallen status hard. My apologies.”
Tumbling in Time is available on Amazon US, Amazon UK, and Amazon CA.

Release Day ---> SURRENDER

Fiona Lockhart struggles to survive after Earth is conquered by powerful aliens. So when turncoats offer Fiona a way to keep her mother safe, she can't refuse—even though it means marrying a Kall warrior and posing as the First Daughter, Betsy Carson.
Kall warrior Merokk has mixed feelings about marrying a human woman, but it's his duty and he can't refuse. He enjoys taming the headstrong Betsy, and a good spanking now and then makes the passion burn. The sex is sizzling, and as the months pass, Merokk discovers the feelings for his little wife run deep. But when he learns of her deceit after the real Betsy Carson surfaces, Merokk's new world shatters. Can he learn to forgive Fiona, or will he spend the rest of their lives punishing her for a crime she never wanted to commit? Excerpt: A haggard-looking President Carson guided a young, pretty redhead across the room. He cleared his throat. “Ambassador Merokk, may I present to you my daughter, Betsy Carson.” He urged the woman forward and stepped back. Merokk stared into the bluest eyes he’d ever seen, taking note of the glimmer of fright she tried to hide behind a small, polite smile. The moment stretched on as they stared at one another, and he suddenly became annoyed they weren’t alone. “Leave us,” he said sharply, glancing at President Carson. Betsy’s smile vanished as she watched her father leave the room. She squared her shoulders and held Merokk’s gaze. Amusement curled his lips. Despite her brave front, the scent of her fear was a sweet cold sensation that flowed into his nostrils and caused his muscles to tense. Her distress coupled with the knowledge that she belonged to him stirred the darkest desires in the recesses of his mind, and he felt like a predator ready to pounce on his prey. He moved around her in a slow circle, taking in every curve of her body, from her shapely thighs to her firm, inviting breasts. The knee-length blue dress she wore hugged all the right places. As he finished another circle around her, he noticed the rapid rise and fall of her chest. He had to touch her. Merokk tilted her chin upward with one finger and caught her eyes in his. He smiled and inhaled deeply, breathing in more of her intoxicating human scent. “The only time you need to fear me, Betsy, is if you’ve done wrong. Try to relax.” Her thin brows knitted together. “I don’t even know you.” “What do you want to know?” She shrugged and tried to pull away, but Merokk caught her chin between his fingers, holding her in place. Her eyes darkened a shade. “I’ve been told this marriage will be in name only, that it’s one of many such political alliances formed to heal the hurt between our worlds. Am I to understand I won’t see you often after the wedding ceremony?” The optimism in her voice gnawed on Merokk’s nerves and wounded his pride simultaneously, though he’d never admit it out loud. His teeth clenched, and his hands moved to grip her shoulders. “I will be your husband and this marriage will be whatever I want it to be. You’ll see me often, Betsy, in and out of the bedroom.” Buy links: Amazon USAmazon UKAmazon CAAmazon DEBarnes and Noble

Braggin' rights and a naughty excerpt

When she awoke, Emma found herself pressed down on the bed, her clothing removed. How long had she napped with John on the couch? A glance at the window told her it was still night, or at least early morning.
Brought back to awareness by the delicious kisses John was trailing up the inside of her thighs, she caressed her fingers through his hair and parted her legs in invitation.
“That’s it.” He met her stare. “Spread your pussy wide. Reach down and pull your lips apart.”
The coarseness of his words caused her face to heat. Jesus, had anyone ever spoken to her that way before? Unsure of whether or not he seriously wanted her to pull her pussy lips apart, she leaned back and did nothing.
Smack! Smack! He stung the front of her thigh with two sharp slaps.
“Ah!” Emma flinched from the pain as fear propelled her to full wakefulness. Her previous spankings were fresh in her mind and gave her a healthy respect for John, but she had not anticipated punishment for not following directions during lovemaking.
“I’ll give you one more chance to spread those pussy lips apart, princess.”
“No. I will not.” Her tone was firm and haughty. He could force her to marry him, make her come, and spank her if she disobeyed him outside the bedroom, but she sure as hell was not going to be his mindless puppet in bed.
“Very well.” His eyes flashed with danger.
Emma tensed and hid her face in her hands, expecting another smack to her thigh. Instead, John flipped her over his lap on the edge of the bed. Her wiggling was no match for his strong grip as he pinned her hands down and wrapped a leg around her flailing ones.
“I knew it would take more than two sessions over my knee to spank the defiance out of you.” He chuckled and Emma’s rising anger soon equaled that of her excitement.
“This is ridiculous. It’s not like I tried to run away.”
His huge hand covered one of her bottom cheeks and he began to rub. “Not running away isn’t my only rule, young lady. You will strive to obey my commands to the best of your ability, even in bed. You will cook, clean, and turn this cabin into a warm haven we can both enjoy. You will treat me – and others – with respect.”
“In other words, you want me to be a good slave?” Hostility laced her words, though a small voice in her head agreed with him.
“You’re my wife and those are your duties as my wife. As your husband, it’s my job to keep you safe and happy. I will make sure there’s food on the table, a roof over your head, and clothing on your back. If you’re sick, I’ll find a doctor. If you’re cold, I’ll build you a fire and wrap you up in a blanket. We each have different roles in this marriage, Emma, and I expect you to live up to yours. When I feel it’s necessary, I will warm your bottom to remind you how a good wife behaves.”
Rules of War blurb:
Can her greatest fear become her sweetest desire?
Emma Conrad's worst nightmare is realized when a bomb strikes her building and she awakens to discover she's been taken captive by a Free Island enemy soldier. Tensions and passions rise as she rebels against the man who has claimed her as his wife, whisking her away to a settlement in the mountains.
Unit Commander John Rousseau insists he's a good man Emma need not fear, but he does promise to spank her if she misbehaves...and he has lots of rules. Will she lose her heart to the stern stranger, or will a ghost from her past take away her last chance at happiness?

Book Spotlight: Miss Abigail's Room by Catherine Cavendish
Today I'm spotlighting Catherine Cavendish's latest release, Miss Abigail's Room . Catherine's books are a must-read for fans of horror and paranormal, and her latest book is one not to be missed!
Blurb:

As the lowest ranking parlor maid at Stonefleet Hall, Becky gets all the dirtiest jobs. But the one she hates the most is cleaning Miss Abigail’s room. There’s a strange, empty smell to the place, and a feeling that nothing right or Christian resides there in the mistress’s absence. And then there’s the blood, the spot that comes back no matter often Becky scrubs it clean. Becky wishes she had somewhere else to go, but without means or a good recommendation from her household, there is nothing for her outside the only home she’s known for eighteen years. So when a sickening doll made of wax and feathers turns up, Becky’s dreams of freedom and green grass become even more distant. Until the staff members start to die.
A darning needle though the heart of the gruesome doll puts everyone at Stonefleet Hall at odds. The head parlor maid seems like someone else, the butler pretends nothing’s amiss, and everyone thinks Becky’s losing her mind. But when the shambling old lord of the manor looks at her, why does he scream as though he’s seen the hounds of hell?
Extract:
Wiltshire,1896
It wasn’t so much the blood on the floor that Becky minded, as the way it kept coming back.
That morning, as she did with monotonous regularity, she heaved her bucket up the steep, winding stone stairs to the turret room, muttering to herself. She panted as she stood at the top of the stairs and stared at the heavy oak door. A warm August sun streamed in through the turret windows in the east tower of the large eighteenth century country manor. Sweat beaded Becky’s brow, and she wiped her hand across her forehead, catching up a stray lock of mousy brown hair which she tucked, none too successfully, under her white housemaid’s cap.
Her heart beating a little too quickly, she took a deep breath and reached for the door handle, praying that, just once, she wouldn’t have to get down on her knees and scrub away the gruesome stain.
She turned the handle and pushed the door open, peering into the still, darkened bedroom. “‘Ere goes.”
The room smelled of emptiness. Miss Abigail had been away for three months this time, but she would be back in a week or so. At least that was what the butler, Mr. Farnsworth, had told them all at breakfast.
Heaving another sigh, she tugged at the dark green damask curtains that hung on one wall of the semi-circular room and sunlight flooded in. Despite the summer warmth, Becky shivered. She hated this room. Its heavy atmosphere always left her depressed and gloomy.
Her view was uninterrupted for miles across Stonefleet Hall’s immaculate, velvet green lawns, over the trees to the rolling Wiltshire hills beyond. The bright sun against the deep azure sky made her squint, and she wished she didn’t have to turn around. But it had to be done.
“Oh Gawd! Not again.”
There on the floor to the left of the window, the familiar splash of red stained the parquet floor. Hitching up her black skirt, she groaned as she lowered herself onto her knees, wincing at the pain of her Housemaid’s Knee. “I’m getting too bleedin’ old for this lark.”
Taking her rag, she sloshed it in the galvanized bucket, wringing it out before plopping it onto the floor and setting to her task.
Ten minutes later, she tossed the rag back into her bucket and sat back on her haunches, mopping sweat from her forehead with a grimy handkerchief. “Now stay away this time, why can’tcha?” Becky’s joints creaked as she heaved herself upright, almost tripping as her boot caught on the hem of her skirt, ripping it. “Dammit! Now I’ll ’ave to get me needle and thread to it again. Gawd knows ’ow much more mending it can take.”
A sudden noise caught her attention. She gazed around the room, taking in the tidy double bed with its heavy white cotton bedspread, the wardrobe with its doors shut tight, and the mantelpiece covered in delicate china ornaments.
Becky hardly dared breathe. All she could hear was her own heartbeat. Yet, she was sure she had heard something, a slight knocking sound when there should be nothing. No one else had any reason to be up here. The only room in this turret was Miss Abigail’s, and the only person in that room was Becky.

His prisoner...his wife...his passion - an excerpt from RULES OF WAR
Today's six sentences come from Rules of War , my new sci fi erotic romance release. Rules of War is a spanking romance with a splash of BDSM. The following scene is from the night John beds Emma for the first time:

John was going to fuck her from behind. He planned to use her body for his pleasure, and a dark thrill skittered through her at the idea of being used like a toy.

'Location, location, location' and all about Comfort and Joy by Charley Descoteaux
Please give Charley Descoteaux a warm welcome to my blog! She's here today to talk about the importance of location in writing, as well as her steamy new m-m romance, Comfort and Joy . I am still drooling over the excerpt included at the bottom of this post. It woke me up better than coffee this morning!
Take it away, Charley...
I really love stories where the setting is so important it's almost like another character. This is partly because I'm a die-hard Trekkie. Gene Roddenberry insisted every story be one that could only happen in the Star Trek universe, and I guess that attitude rubbed off on me.

From outer space to a small town in New Mexico, the stories that stay with me the most have a deep sense of place.
What are some of your favorite stories with settings so vivid they seem almost like characters?
Tagline & blurb for Comfort and Joy :

Sam and Charlie have been together over a decade, and their commitment to each other has only grown stronger through the years. But love isn't always easy, and eighteen months after a violent assault, their fairy-tale relationship is still struggling. Charlie can’t shake the lingering fear of attracting more violence by displaying affection, and he's angry at himself for not getting past it. Sam would do anything to help Charlie feel better—if only he knew what that was.
The century-old farmhouse in Northwest Oregon is the perfect place to spend the holidays with Sam’s family, but it was their refuge after the attack, and it still holds painful memories of those difficult first months. Christmas should be a joyful time, but even being surrounded by people who love him isn’t enough to make Charlie feel safe. He could try to keep to himself, but even if Sam agreed to give him the space he needs, Sam’s warm and loving family might not. And even though they agreed not to exchange gifts, Sam has a surprise up his sleeve that he hopes will make everything merry and bright. But he may end up more surprised than Charlie before the week is out…
Excerpt:
Sam continued up the stairs, considering how to go about putting Charlie’s perfect ass on a piano bench became entangled with the unfortunate fact that as long as they slept upstairs they would be showering separately. He gave Charlie first chance at the hot water and then sped through his shower as fast as he could. Sam stopped just inside the bedroom door and closed it quietly. He towelled his hair and let his gaze linger on Charlie, lying still on top of the quilt, bare feet on the floor, partially covered with a green towel. A slice of moonlight filtered through the curtain on the opposite wall and across Charlie's body, which was a work of art even when not bathed in romantic mood-lighting. After a few moments Sam realized Charlie was also watching him.
Charlie flipped the towel up and away from his body and Sam felt as though someone had just grabbed him by the throat. After barely a heartbeat’s hesitation he strode to the foot of the bed and leaned over Charlie to kiss him. Sam’s free hand caressed his slender chest and shoulders. When he felt goose bumps Sam lowered himself over Charlie but kept all his weight on both knees and one hand.
Sam moaned softly and moved his dark hand over the fair skin on Charlie’s abs. He hadn’t regained any of the bulk he’d lost but made up for it with dizzying definition and a solidity he hadn’t had before.
“Vanilla ice cream.” Sam began to kiss his way down Charlie’s chest and felt a cool hand on his head exerting a gentle pressure, urging him lower.
“You’re lactose intolerant.”
Sam looked up and grinned for a short moment, then slipped down even farther. “I’ll just have to lick you instead.”

RULES OF WAR ~ New Release!

The idea for Rules of War started with a vision of a bunch of men living in a camp of some sort in the mountains, starting over after the end of a war. Slowly, the plot fell into place as more pieces of the story came to me. Sometimes I start writing a book with no clue about what's going to happen in the middle or the end, but with Rules of War I had a clear picture before I started typing. I love it when that happens because the story seems to write itself, rather than me trying to squeeze words out each day.
Here's the blurb:
Can her greatest fear become her sweetest desire?
Emma Conrad's worst nightmare is realized when a bomb strikes her building and she awakens to discover she's been taken captive by a Free Island enemy soldier. Tensions and passions rise as she rebels against the man who has claimed her as his wife, whisking her away to a settlement in the mountains.
