Six Sentence Sunday ~ 4/1/2012

Today's snippet comes from my newest work-in-progress, Surrender (Alien Warriors, book 1).  Why yes, I'm writing a series!  I'm pretty excited about it, and I hope you enjoy my six:)

"Despite Betsy's brave front, Marqok could smell her fear.  Her distress coupled with the knowledge that she belonged to him stirred the darkest desires in the recesses of his mind, and he felt like a predator ready to pounce on his prey.  He moved around her in a slow circle, taking in every curve of her body, from her shapely thighs to her firm, inviting breasts.  The knee-length blue dress she wore hugged all the right places.  As he finished another circle around her, he noticed the rapid rise and fall of her chest.  He had to touch her."

Thanks for stopping by!

Spotlight Saturday with Brenda Dyer

Please welcome author Brenda Dyer to my blog for Spotlight Saturday.  She's here to answer a few questions and talk about her latest release, Love's Prophecy (A Paranormal Romance).

Who are a few of your favorite authors?
A few of my favorite authors are: Johanna Lindsey, J.R. Ward, J.R.R Tolkien, Stephen King, Karen Marie Moning—plus many, many more.

Do you like to listen to music while you write?  If so, who are your favorite artists?
No. I like quiet. I get distracted way too easily.

Tell us a little bit about your newest release.
Love's Prophecy is a paranormal romance, featuring vampires. I feel my story has a new and exciting twist to the vampire legend. But underneath the main plot and sub-plots, my novel is ultimately a love story.

Excerpt:

Pain twisted Mel's gut tighter. “Breeana, I'm not asking you to give up anything.”

Her gaze was fierce. “Do you want to know what scares the shit out of me?”

“What?”

She hesitated. “I would leave everything. I'd leave it all behind because I…love you.”

Mel's heart ground to a halt when her softly spoken words filtered through his brain. An instant later, it jumped, slamming so hard against his ribs it felt like it was going to burst free.
She loved him? Did he hear correct?

He searched her face and saw it was true. She loved him.
Joy, love, sadness, and God help him, hope pumped through him, adding to the chaos of emotions he already felt.

He tilted her face up with a hand cupping her chin and kissed her hard. A kiss brimming with love, despair, and frustration over a situation that held no other solution than heartbreak. And he sensed she experienced the same whirlpool of feelings. He felt it in her kiss, in the desperate way she gripped his shirt, and he tasted it in her tears.

He pulled back and stared into her eyes. “I love you, Breeana. The short time we've known one another, you have become my everything. My heart. My breath…My life. I was dead inside before you.”

She crumpled against his chest and sobbed. “Oh God! I can't let you go. Don't ask me to.”

Where can readers find your newest release?
Amazon
Barnes and Noble

All Romance e-books

If you could be the heroine in any romance or erotic romance novel, who would it be and why?
Even though Lord Of The Rings isn't a romance, I would love to be Arwen. I would kiss the crap out of Aragorn, LOL.

What inspired you to start writing?
The idea behind my story. I knew I was onto something different. A new look at how vampires were created and why. Then my characters developed into living beings and took on a life all their own. I knew then I had to write this story.

What is your ultimate writing goal?
LOL, to be #1 in Kindle books.

Star Trek or Star Wars?
Can I pick both? Well, I'm going to anyway. I love Star Trek, The Next Generation. And who doesn't like Star Wars?

Do you write under a pen name?  If so, who knows about your naughty writing activities?
No.  LOL, maybe one day when I'm rich and famous and I decide to write in a different genre, then I may write under a pen name. Hmmm, wonder what my pen name could be…how about Claire Cox? LOL, I better keep trying.

Tell us about your upcoming writing projects.
I'm in the midst of writing book two in The Prophecy Series. It is called Prophecy's Child. I have two short stories I should have polished and ready to publish within the next month or so.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog.

What a fun interview!  Please feel free to leave Brenda a nice comment:)

Spotlight Saturday with Kacey Hammell

Please give author Kacey Hammell a warm welcome to my blog today.  She's stopped by to talk about her latest release, Illusions (The Arms of the Law - Book One), and to answer a couple of questions.

Kacey, do you like to listen to music while you write?  If so, who are your favorite artists?

Sometimes. I like to have noise around me when I write, whether it is my kids or the tv or music.  If I do listen to something, it’s Johnny Reid, Maroon 5, Nickelback, Aerosmith, ACDC, Adele, Hedley, to name a few artists/bands.
Tell us a little bit about your newest release and share an excerpt.
ILLUSIONS is a contemporary, romantic suspense with a small bit of paranormal aspect to it. Isabella is the lead detective on the trail of  a murderer. Brady Jacobs is a P.I. with a special gift – the gift of a seer. He sometimes has visions of people in danger, murderers, settings, etc. and assists the police around the world in many cases. He and Isabella have been friends for years but begin to see one another secretly. Neither wants commitments but they’re helpless to stop the train of love as they try to resist one another, and catch a murder.
Excerpt, Kacey Hammell, © 2012
“What’s this? A party and no one told me?” At the newest addition to the conversation, Isabella’s pulse accelerated double-time. She looked toward the door. Man, I don’t need this today. Brady Jacobs walked—no, sauntered—into the office and heading toward Ethan, spared her not a glance. Black denim jeans encased his firm, shapely ass like a second skin. His black T-shirt with sleeves rolled over his beautiful biceps showed off his sexy, muscular build. He looked good enough to eat. A flood of heat coursed through her body. This was a man who was confident in himself and when he entered the room, there was a ripple effect. Everyone sat up to take notice of him and women practically swooned, eager to catch his eye. But Brady rarely gave any one woman the time of day. He was adamant about keeping his personal life private, and his no-commitment rule was always in full force. Something he was upfront about with the ladies. “Hey, pal. Great game this morning.” Brady slapped Ethan on the back. “Shit, Jacobs. You kicked my ass and then some.” Ethan chuckled. “My head just wasn’t in it today.” Isabella could see Ethan’s gaze move again toward the newspaper on the desk. If it wouldn’t be obvious, I’d snatch it and run to burn it. “Morning, Ms. Ali-Bear. How’s my sugar-girl today?” He headed over to her desk, ruffling her hair as he stepped behind her, as if she were his little sister. Leave it to him to make the ladies feel special. “Get lost, Jacobs. I’m sick of seeing you around here,” Alicia said flippantly. She must really be pissed about the photo. Isabella let out a frustrated sigh, causing three sets of eyes to look her way. “Morning, Brady.” She smiled, hoping she looked like a woman with not a care in the world. “What brings you to the precinct this early in the morning?” His gaze held hers for seconds longer than she would have liked. “Actually, I came to see Alicia. I need to go over the Vaughn case with her. I had another vision last night.” He spoke without hesitation. Trenton’s finest P.I. had become the city’s favorite after his first vision had saved the Walker twins eight years ago. The twins, then seven years old, had wandered off into the woods behind their family home one afternoon. When they didn’t return to the house for dinner that night, their frantic mother had called the police, begging someone to help her find her missing children. Within hours, an Amber Alert had been called and hundreds of citizens and every cop available had combed the Walkers’ woods, looking for the kids. After six hours without success, exhaustion had set in with many of the volunteers. Everyone had worked tirelessly, but when there seemed to be no hope in sight, Brady showed up, at a frantic near-run, and charged into the woods. Within thirty minutes, he came back out with a child tucked under each arm. Only after the Walkers had been calmed, the boys tucked into bed, did Isabella and Connor question Brady. With much resistance, he confessed to his ESP, the visions that had begun during his stint in the Marines. Most times, out of nowhere—he could be sleeping, driving, taking a shower—and a vision would claim him. In the eight years since the Walker incident, Brady had probably saved more lives than most cops. While he didn’t have visions for every beating, murder, kidnapping, or mugging in New Jersey, high-profile incidents seemed to find a channel in him. With each high-profile case solved successfully, Trenton’s citizens claimed him as a favorite son. If a child ran away, parents would hire his P.I. firm to assist in bringing them home. If there were a murder, police at a dead end called him in. No one thought anything unkind about him or his visions. It made his business a huge success and he took it all in stride. Isabella admired him for it. “Damn, Brady. Why didn’t you call me immediately?” Alicia growled in a disgruntled voice. “I am telling you. I had to get the whole thing in order before contacting you.” He shook his head and headed for the window overlooking West Street, the one she had just moments ago been staring out of. “Well? What have you got for me?” Alicia demanded. With a chuckle, he turned back to her. “Impatient damn woman, aren’t you? Just like your cousin. Always impatient for more.” Isabella’s cheeks burned and she prayed he wasn’t being an ass on purpose to start further questions running through Ali’s mind. She didn’t need them from her. “If people would deliver, I wouldn’t need more,” Isabella declared with some satisfaction. His eyes turned a darker grey than their normal silver color. Don’t mess me with me and think you’ll win, big guy.
Where can readers find your newest release?
ILLUSIONS is available at Decadent Publishing.
Coffee or tea?
Used to be coffee – 3 cups a day – until I got sick with the flu over the Christmas holidays and just couldn’t bring myself to drink it again after I got better. Now, it’s tea—2 cups a day. *g*

How do you go about choosing names for your characters?
I look at popular fe/male names, look at the background of the character (ie: Irish, French, etc) or just put together some of my favourite names.
What genres have you written in?
Romance first and foremost of course. Contemporary, Erotic, Romantic Suspense. I’m currently dabbling in a paranormal/ménage series. Should be fun!
Do you write under a pen name?  If so, who knows about your naughty writing activities?
Yes, I do use a pen name. Just for privacy reasons. My family, husband, Mom, some other family and friends all have knowledge of what I write. Some have even read and enjoyed it too.
Tell us about your upcoming writing projects.
The sequel to ILLUSIONS – AWAKENINGS – has recently been contracted by Decadent Publishing so that will be out in 2012.  There are manuscripts completed – contemporary erotic romances – that are submitted to publishers that I’m waiting to hear about.  I have a folder of other WIP that I look forward to diving into. As I said above, there’s the paranormal/ménage series that has been started, which I think will be a lot of fun.

Please feel free to leave Kacey a nice comment:)

Six Sentence Sunday ~ 3/18/2012

Today's six sentences are pulled from a novella I just completed called Dark without You. It's an erotic romance with more of a domestic discipline theme than bdsm, and it's a story I began months ago and set aside for a while. I really love this story and I'm so happy my characters decided to talk to me again.

My sample Sunday:

Alice accepted another shot from Derrick and immediately felt someone’s hot breath on her neck. “That’d better be your last drink tonight, young lady.” Her stomach dropped to the floor. It was Andy. Of course it was Andy. Who else could turn her insides to mush with a firm command?

Hope you enjoyed that little peek into Andy and Alice's world. Thanks for stopping by:)
