Book Description:

“What gives you a thrill Kristen?”

I knew that giving in to Vincent Sorenson was a risk, but it was one I was willing to take. I had hidden my heart for so long and for the first time in a long time, Vincent was close to breaking down the walls.

When a trip to Vincent’s exclusive private island reveals the real Vincent underneath the layers of suave nonchalance, I thought we were close to the start of something special.

Just when things were looking up for us, I would discover the one secret that Vincent never intended for me to find.

Juicy Review for “The Fangirl’s Dream”

From Nicky Peacock:

FanGirlsDream_small“This book was brilliant! Seriously, who doesn’t have a TV show crush? We all have one, and sit dreamily staring at the screen imagining what it would be like to slip into their world and seduce the hell out of them! This is exactly what Fierce does in Fangirl’s Dream.

It’s a short read with a great hook and seamlessly takes you on a sexy adventure with a female lead who can represent us ‘real girls’. I don’t want to give too much away and ruin it, but it holds a delicate balance of show don’t tell – which I always appreciate as a reader.

From a writer’s perspective there were a few sexual words used that jarred me personally, but that’s just me and could very well be more of a cultural thing. Just because we speak the same language, there are subtle differences.  I try not to be prudish in my own writing, but there are a few words I just won’t use,  Just my personal opinion.

The front cover is brilliant – gives us a great view of hunky man – to be honest, I don’t ask for much more than that!

Overall I’d give Fangirl’s Dream 4 out of 5 stars – a must read for romance fans!”

Tenth Grade English, Sex with Firemen, and Jessica Jayne

Who has been the biggest influence on your writing? How so?

My tenth grade English teacher was probably my biggest influence on my fiction writing. When I was in tenth grade, Mrs. B was also teaching a senior level creative writing class.  She asked me to be in it, even though I was only a sophomore. That class allowed me to expand not only my creative mind, but my writing talent. I’ve stayed in touch with Mrs. B over the years and she has repeatedly encouraged me to submit my writing to a publisher. As a writer, submitting your work is intimidating. Once it’s out there, you are vulnerable to other people’s thoughts about your writing, about your story. And most of us pour our hearts and souls into a piece of writing. But she never laid off me. So last year, I submitted a novella to several publishers and it was accepted and published. That story was entitled More Than Friends and was published by Cobblestone Press in November 2012.  Since that point, I’ve been a little more brazen about submitting my work, but I owe a lot to Mrs. B and her influence over the years.

If you were to have sex with one of your characters, which would you choose, and why?

Right now, I have four books published, so that means four hot heroes! Not to mention, the gazillion heroes lurking in my head and WIPs. Answering this question honestly (and of course, presuming I’m not married in this scenario, which in real life, I am married to a wonderful man that allows me to live my dream), I’d answer Matt Riley from my book, In Flames.  First, he’s a fireman. Not sure I need to say anything else, and well, I, too, have a thing for firefighters. Second, firefighter aside, he’s HOT! He has to be. He’s the hero in a romance novel. Third, he’s a man with a conscious but also a heart. He’s not afraid to show his emotions. In fact, they often come out during sex. He’s just an all-around amazing guy, who knows exactly how to please a woman!

Pitch yourself to new readers in thirty words or less:

I create emotional and sensual stories for my readers. Characters that are real. Emotion that’s raw. Sex that leaves you burning for more.

Tell me about your groupies–what have been your favorite fan moments?

I can’t wait to have groupies! ;)   On a serious note, this whole experience has certainly been surreal at times. I’ve had readers email me with enthusiastic messages about how much they loved a story or a character or how they could relate to the storyline. I had one reader send me the link to her Favorites on Goodreads and my book, In Flames¸ was listed as one of her favorite books – “to be read again and again.”  That’s a pretty fan-flipping-tastic feeling.

Every author has pitfalls in their writing process. Describe one of yours, and what you do to dig out of it.

I have a problem when I attempt to overplan a scene. I know some writers outline and plan every aspect of their stories. I used to be like that. But I struggled when I came to a point in my outline and nothing was clicking while I was writing because I had planned it to the nth degree and I guess the characters were just not about my plan. It is frustrating when you have an idea of where you think things are going and yet, you can’t seem to get there.

I deal with this situation one of two ways. One – I walk away from that story for a bit and see if I can come back to the scene in a few days with a new perspective. Two – I let it unfold the way the characters are dictating in my head and go from there. A lot of it depends on how invested I am in the scene. Lately, option two has been most prevalent and I think the characters are becoming spoiled because they throw a tantrum in my head if I even attempt for option one! ;)

What was the inspiration for your latest release?

I recently worked with an attorney from a rather large law firm, who was about twenty years my senior. After spending considerable time with this gentleman, I found myself oddly (for me because I tend to have a thing for younger guys) attracted to him. He sparked something in me that took me by surprise. I was drawn to him. His dark brown hair and goatee peppered with greys. His blue eyes filled with knowledge. His educated conversation. His grace when he moved. His politeness and respect that he demonstrated for everyone around him. The softness he used in addressing me, like I was a lady.

I will admit… he charmed me! So much so, I created Greg Snow from Board Approved!

My mother always joked about her special place in Hell—just punishments for guilty pleasures.  What guilty pleasures will send you to your special place in Hell?

Flirting! I’m a ridiculous flirt! I married a man that knows exactly how to handle me and doesn’t mind that I flirt because he knows he owns my heart.

Chocolate. I’ve been known to have the ability to eat a lot of chocolate! A lot! I can put away a Dove chocolate bar… easily!

Fairy in the Flesh, from Katalina Leon!

Have you ever tasted Absinthe? It’s strange, beautiful stuff and something of an acquired taste. Straight from the bottle it’s an earthy golden-green similar in hue to high quality olive oil. When mixed with water it becomes an enchanted, cloudy shade of pale opalescent jade. The mysterious green transformation is where the legend of the La Fée Verte, the green fairy begins. In cafés of the 19th century a patron would be served a fluted, parfait style glass, a small pitcher of water, a filigree spade-shaped spoon that often was a work of art in itself, and a tiny dish of chunky oblong sugar cubes.

The patron would balance the spoon across the top of the glass, place the sugar cubes atop the spoon and very slowly drizzle the absinthe over the sugar cubes, saturating them. Then a small amount of water would be trickled over the sugar cubes and allowed to dissolve them. The final step after the last bits of green sugar had slipped through the spoon is to stir the mixture until it becomes opaque. At that moment it’s time to ask La Fée Verte to be kind with you.

The first impression that might leap to mind while tasting modern commercial absinthe might be “Dear god that’s strong”, or it might be, “Wow this is just weird black licorice and a lot of booze.”

Taste it again and the other subtle flavors begin to come forward. Taste it again and you’ll notice there are a lot of layers to this stuff, multiple ingredients that are familiar yet very hard to name. Anise is right at the top, screaming “licorice!”, but there are other quietly seductive flavors as well as the possibly of a few sinister properties. Absinthe as it was made in the 19th century contained wormwood as one of the principle ingredients, which is said to induce hallucinations and eventually madness.

Madness? Wormwood? You might think that sounds a little unsetting but it didn’t stop the French from guzzling the stuff. Until World War I Absinthe was the most popular alcoholic beverage in France. French veterans returning from the Crimean War came home with a taste for exotic herbed alcoholic beverages. Absinthe’s astonishingly high alcohol content and notorious ability to intoxicate added to its popularity among the poor and serious café drinkers alike. Absinthe’s allure crossed all social boundaries in 19th century France. Intellectuals, artists and well-to-do middle class matrons all enjoyed and often overindulged in La Fée Verte’s warming and yet numbing embrace.

For professional purposes only I drank a little absinthe while editing Fairy In The Flesh. I called on La Fée Verte to bring me a beautiful vision as I asked the question, “What if your soul mate was born a century before you?” Fairy In The Flesh explores that question big time.

In this excerpt Maya has been tricked into drinking mojo laced absinthe, travels back in time and wakes up in 1903…

About Fairy in the Flesh

Maya Rousseau’s fantasy vacation in Avignon France heats up when an eccentric enchantress tricks her into drinking mojo-laced absinthe.

An unexpected encounter with the green fairy causes Maya’s reality to have a serious melt down. She travels back in time and wakes up naked in the bed of her favorite bad boy Bohemian artist, the tall, dark and mysterious André Bosco. There’s nothing wrong with that except it’s 1903.

For André it’s love at first sight. He begs Maya to become his cherished model, muse and lover. The chemistry and shared passion between them is overwhelming. André’s a generous-hearted dream man but there’s a catch. Every hour they spend together bonds them tighter and time is running out. The same powers that flung Maya back to 1903 are preparing to snatch her back.

With a hundred and ten years separating these soul-bound lovers it’s uncertain if they can find a happy ending without the help of a little magic and La Fée Verte.

Note: Story contains super hot sex with an unattainable man, enchanted hallucinatory beverages, mischievous time-twisters and green fairies.

Confessions of a Bad Fangirl……..

FanGirlsDream_small I have a confession to make: I was a bad fangirl. When I first submitted The Fangirl’s Dream to my publisher, Decadent Publishing, I was still reveling in my TV boyfriend hangover and memories of visiting the Yucatan a while back. It’s not my fault. I mean, I didn’t do it on purpose. How could I help it, distracted by the possibility of writing out my primetime lust, consummating my character crush? Mary Sue much?

Here it is: I got some details in the book wrong. I know!! What was I thinking (besides about how they were gonna do it, and where, how often, and if palm leaves would stick to their butts while they were doing it)? I was a very bad fangirl, and I should be punished for not paying closer attention to my scenes, my hero, my heroine, the lush scenery I created for them to roll around and bang their brains out.

The thing is, when I visited the Yucatan a few years ago, I was in Belize, which is a very different terrain from the setting of my newest release, The Fangirl’s Dream. The book is set in the northern Yucatan Peninsula, sort of central, land-locked Chichen Itza. The locations aren’t terribly far apart, however, the bioregional difference is significant, and had I not changed it would have ruined my cred.

Originally, when I threw Siler and her TV boyfriend, Farraj, in the middle of the jungle, I had in mind the lush, dense, Cave River area of Belize in mind. Belize is very green and wet, and the wildlife sustained by that area is plentiful and evident on its surface. Been there, done that, saw it for myself. I’m sure that people living on the more rocky limestone shelf that is the arid, dry, region of the northern Yucatan sustain from what lives beneath it just fine. But my trapped foreigners (and their dumbass author) wouldn’t know how to take care of themselves as easily in this jungle setting.

This difference presented a couple of problems in the plot, most of which became apparent to me after the chance viewing of a documentary on the northern Yucatan. First, there are no above ground rivers there, as in Belize. All water runs below the limestone shelf, thus the quaint dining scene in which Siler sat by Farraj’s side as he fished their meal from a stream had to be rewritten. The only fish in that area come from cenotes, which was a great fix to my dilemma, though required me to add several hundred feet between Farraj and his water source, as well as toss a few extra implements to his backpack. Also, Siler couldn’t see what he was doing fishing in this manner, so the monologue in her head changed to watching him prepare the meal.

Second, though having lesser impact on the plot, I had to change what foods could be eaten raw. I’d originally written in yucca, which was just silly. Did I want them puking and poisoned in the rainforest? No. That’s no good. Definitely not sexy. So, pitaya it was.

In all, I caught my errors in time and rewrote what was needed to make the story true to the setting, thus the characters comfortably upset in their surroundings. I sighed, my editor laughed (again).

The moral of the story is, know your shit. Be a good fangirl. Do your homework, so that if you do find yourself having to rescue your TV boyfriend, you can at least write in a cenote, and not send him searching for rivers that don’t exist.

Fierce on Erotica for All!

A bit back I had the pleasure of gushing about character boners on Erotica for All. If you’ve got one, you’ll know exactly what I mean…

Guest Blog: Fierce Dolan
Fangirls Dream Banner 450 x 169Have you ever met a character in a film, book, or TV show that just wouldn’t let you go? Hot is a given, but their story stayed with you. You wanted to give them acceptance, freedom, release–you know what you wanted to give. And you know exactly what you wanted to take. With a character boner like that, what’s a biggest fan supposed to do?

According to the New York Times, 46% of people polled say they fantasize about other people while having sex with their lovers. So do you? Do you pretend that deep dicking is from primetime’s most popular fall guy living a lie to protect innocent others? Or does the skirt upshot you’re dreaming of belong to the blushing damsel desperate for release in the novel that won’t let you go?

Maybe roleplaying is more your style? Does your lover go the extra mile and become the angst-ridden cowboy from that western, with you tied up and being a good little pony? Maybe you get to be Daddy while your little one sits on your lap and confesses the secrets of your favorite girl-next-door, reluctant heroine.

So, so many ways to play out treasured scenes and sins that keep you up at night. That need to fill in certain fictional character hangover blanks was my inspiration for The Fangirl’s Dream. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to meet a hot character from a book, TV show, or film, you’ll love this book. So tell me, who’s your book boyfriend? What doll of your silver screen dreams creams for you? I want to know your character crushes, and the naughty things you do with them in that fangirl imagination of yours!

About Persuasion Skills

In the aftermath of a major health scare, Pepper Holts makes the relief-inspired decision to seize the day. Unfortunately, most of her “seizing” involves a bit of merlot and her best friend’s pants! After a shared night of passion she realizes that her feelings for Jax are a lot more complicated than she ever thought.

Jax has finally realized that his allergy to marriage has nothing to do with the institution itself, and everything to do with the women in his bed—or more specifically, the one woman not in his bed. Her reaction to their one night together has him scrambling to regroup. So he does what he knows best—he disappears, and he thinks. The plan?—convince Pepper into staying with him at a secluded cabin for one week. One week of pretending to be a happily married couple to show her how great they could be together.

About Laura

Laurel is a romance author, who like most writers loves to read. Her first love (pun intended) has always been romance. From the sappy YA romance novel to the more risqué erotica novels, Laurel is a sucker for a good love story.

Laurel writes paranormal and contemporary romance and is a self proclaimed, out of the closet nerd. She admits that she can’t seem to avoid adding a bit of “nerdology” or “geek-dom” to all of her books. Living in Miami, she also admits that she can’t seem to avoid giving her heroines gorgeous shoes, “In Miami, we worship everything strappy, open toed and just plain hot!”

Fierce on Book, Books, the Magical Fruit!

A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed on Books, Books, the Magical Fruit, in which I dished on myself, Wraeththu, Oxford commas, and “How to Talk to Girls at Parties.”

Author Interview: The Fangirl’s Dream by Fierce Dolan

Little Blurb about yourself:

I’ve been writing professionally for 22 years, and I published my first book 9 years ago. I write across several genres, and enjoy having a smidgen of comfort and confidence in the publishing industry, now.

1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer?

I don’t know any better. I used to dictate things to my mother to write before I learned the alphabet, and it stuck. I don’t know why, but writing is how I order the Universe and filter life. Publishing the things I write is just an extension of that.

2. How long did it take you to write The Fangirl’s Dream?

About two weeks. I started the year on a very tight writing schedule, and I got this and several other projects done very quickly. Fangirl was a fun and light piece to write.

3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?

Rarely. In my writing process, the whole thing comes at once, like a paintball splatter—characters, plot, movement. I know what it all needs to do from the very beginning. The plot refines as I go, but the broad marks are there from the beginning.

4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?

How sad is it that I don’t recall the last time I was in a bookstore? I buy everything online, now, and I’m an ebook junkie. Digital media just suits my lifestyle better than tree sacrifice. In terms of genre, though, I head straight for recipe books. Boring, I know, but I’m a fantastic cook…

5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?

I read probably 2-3 books a month. I don’t have a lot of time to read anymore, so I do it somewhat on the run.

6. In all the books you’ve read. Who is your most favorite character and why?

Pelaz, from Storm Constantine’s Wraeththu. I loved him from the beginning. At first, I identified with him because he doesn’t fully understand what Wraeththu is, and neither did I, as the reader. Even as my awareness grew, reading his experience of becoming something beyond human was deeply intimate. I just loved Constantine’s poetic voice, and I’m forever her fangirl as a result of the Wraeththu series.

7. State 5 random facts about yourself.

I was first published at 14 years old, when my poem won a state competition.

I suck at math.

Oxford comma, bitches.

I never planned to write erotica.

As a result of a brain event a few years ago, I have problems reading, typing, and retrieving words.

8. Your favorite Genre?

New Adult Magical Realism. I love the age range that’s sort of post-Harry Potter but not quite adult, and I’m in love with the grounded components of Magical Realism. I find more and more that while I adore literary fiction, I need a little magick in the mix.

9. What are you currently reading?

How to Talk to Girls at Parties, by Neil Gaiman.

10. What is the best book you’ve read?

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.

11. Any new projects coming up?

I’ve got several works in progress. At the fore is wrapping the second book in the Scattered Dark series, Alpha, which will be out in time for spooky season this year. This series is a different and very dark take on shifters, and Book One, Journal of a Lycanthrophile has gotten fantastic response. This series is considerably more graphic than anything else I’ve published, verging on horror, but not in the way most fans of shifterfic would think. I see this arc of this series wrapping at Book Three, though there could be more. I also hope to have a intergendered romance completed, soon.

Here’s your chance to market your book. Describe it. And why readers should pick it up?

The Fangirl’s Dream is everyone’s fantasy of meeting their fictional lover. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to meet a hot character from a book, TV show, or film, you’ll love this book.
