Shayne McClendon, and the Filthy, Naughty, Slutty Things She Does with Jane Eyre
Today I’m hosting Shayne McClendon on her Mackable Babes Tour for her new release The Barter System. I’ve known Shayne for a while, and word–you want to know her, too. She’s the hardest working author I know, a sweetheart, she’s sexy, and she knows how to get you off. Check it:
If you were to have sex with one of your characters, which would you choose, and why?
My, my – that is a difficult one. I’d have to say Jack from Being Delightful. After all, he is tall, outdoorsy, and successful in his own right without being a billionaire type. He’s attracted to curvy women (holla) and knows candles make bath time great.
The very best part about Jack…he is hysterical. I adore him. I always fall in love with my characters but Jack…mmm. Any man who can make you laugh while giving you orgasms is absolutely not allowed to get away.
Pitch yourself to shiny new readers in twenty words or less:
Positivity is even better with screaming orgasms. Get some today (alone or with a friend) reading Shayne McClendon’s new novel.
Every author has pitfalls in their writing process. Describe one of yours, and what you do to dig out of it.
Chaos and noise completely derail me. Interruptions (especially non-stop unnecessary ones) can send me over the edge faster than anything. I have to go take a shower or take a nap, sometimes I’ll watch a movie with Mini-Me. Anything to disconnect my brain from the insanity.
What was the inspiration for your latest release?
The inspiration for The Barter System was a news article that was famous for all of five minutes. It was about a college woman who wrote this awful “rating” of the men she’d slept with – without their knowledge or consent. She ripped them apart (everything from skill to size to noises…horrible stuff), used their names and photos, and was a total piece of crap about it. When it was finished, she shared it with all her friends.
I think some of the men sued her over it but she disgusted me so much that I’ve never looked it up again. I got to thinking, “I wonder what the result would be if the men were willing and the point was a positive one.”
The idea was born from that.
Tell me about your groupies – what have been your favorite fan moments?
Being completely honest, I have some of the most amazing and supportive readers on the planet. They’re smart, sometimes a little damaged, and open to the good things around them. I adore them. I have a group that I adore and can share anything with. Each of them has a unique viewpoint on life and they encourage me when I doubt myself. They offer each other the same non-judgmental support. I’m so proud to know them and they know who they are and why they are so important.
With that said, I have three women who stand out in the “fan” category. A woman at a book event (and I don’t know that she wants me to say her name) actually screamed when I introduced myself. Startled the crap out of me at first. She’s gone on to be the most incredible source of information I’ve ever had in the indie world – putting pieces together for me that I wasn’t connecting before. I owe her a huge debt and I’m good for it.
Another is a very young woman (a few years older than my son) who messaged me and told me that my work really affected her. I talk to her all the time now and find her to be one of the most well rounded and genuinely good people I’ve ever met. She does these amazing things for me and acts as if I’m doing her a favor. That couldn’t be further from the truth. She’s quietly brilliant and filled with potential. I can’t wait to see where life takes her.
Last, there is my SS (Shayne Stalker) who would literally drive three hours to pick me up in a snowstorm if I needed her to. She’s just that kind of person. Through her, I’ve met other really great people and I forget to tell her how much I appreciate her support, her encouragement, and the fact that she keeps every tiny thing I touch and makes me sign it. *grin*
Slash two (or more) of your favorite characters from any book, film, or tv show. Tell us who they are, why you’re making them do naughty things, and their favorite positions.
Edward Rochester promised Jane that his trip with his solicitor would be finished in time for them to celebrate their five-year anniversary. His valet made the trip with him since his vision would never return. Even without the use of sight, he would know his Jane anywhere.
It was very late when the carriage delivered them to the door of Thornfield Hall and he bade the man goodnight at the door to the master suite. Jane would be sleeping inside. He insisted she spend each night by his side to make up for so many years they’d gone without the comfort.
Adept in his own space, he shed his clothes and slipped beneath the thick bedding.
“Edward? It is very late.”
“The carriage wheel had to be replaced ten miles from home.”
“I have a gift…”
“You will give me no gifts until I give you yours. First, I would touch you.”
He spent the next hour simply stroking her narrow form, learning the woman he loved by touch and scent and sound. Her sighs more beautiful than any sight he’d partaken before going blind. When she trembled for him, he entered her gently. This first time was an apology for his inconsideration. He did not say the words and she did not expect them. This would be enough.
The next time, he would ask her to grip the carved oak of their headboard and fuck her until she screamed. Tomorrow, she would blush around the servants. Though he would be unable to see it, he would feel the heat on her skin.
She came sighing his name and he cupped her small breast. As her heartbeat settled, he whispered, “I would have you on your knees, Jane.”
Her smile curved against his cheek. “I would have you on yours, Edward.”
My mother always joked about her special place in Hell – just punishments for guilty pleasures. What guilty pleasures will send you to your special place in Hell?
Cinnamon rolls, croissants, any kind of cheese, and coffee. Place any of those in front of me and I’m putty. Absolute putty. I avoid carbs as much as I can but when I have them…I want the full pop. Cheese is just good – gourmet to cheddar – I love it all.

100 words to tell a story based on an image…
Today’s inspiring photo is from Will Blog for Sex, courtesy of stockvault.com.
The candle flickers
as I read Little Birds,
glut myself on the overzealous Baron at the Grand Hotel with the girls,
the young confessor who dreamed of making love to vicunas,
poor Miguel, frightened of twat, craving cock,
the tentative Basque, edging along Viviane’s whisper, “just the tip,”
threesomes, voyeurism, strapped women, latent man-love, jealousy, and
so. much. fucking–
even queefs, Anaïs made sexy.

Writing the Sophomore of a Series
Writing the Sophomore of a Series
Originally published at Erzabet Bishop, Erotica With an Edge.
I was dubious about writing a series to start with, because it takes a lot of stamina to sustain momentum across several installments of a greater plot. I knew going into Alpha, the second book of The Scattered Dark Series, the challenges that would be ahead, and… I wrote it anyway!
Before we get into the challenges of the sophomore book, let’s talk about what a first in a series must do. Each book in a series must stand-alone, yet tie neatly into its sister books. The first book gets to be the darling—one hopes. It sets up the core conflict, introduces enticing characters, and jets the plot along so well that the second book is set up sublimely. Everyone falls in love with the freshman, or is so incensed by its setup that they want to know more.
So what about The End? The final book (we’ll assume the third one, for brevity’s sake), reveals all characters’ true colors, resolves individual character arcs (at least mostly), and to some degree brings an aptly satisfying resolution to the greater plot. With all of that candy, what’s sweet about the second in a series? Are they all just Jan Brady?
Well, that’s the question every author who writes a series has to clarify from the beginning. The sole purpose of the middle book is to get readers to the final installment. That’s it. Simple enough, right? Yet the majority of the time, the middle book is the one readers complain most about. The first book gets all the action, all the proper introduction, while the finale pushes toward thorough resolution. That said, there can be no lag, no deviating, no grand flourishes in either.
Apart from giving characters the chance to step up their role in plot resolution and possibly explain their connection to it bit more, second books allow a tad more room for dabbling. The very fact that they tend to focus on character development a bit more and rounding out the story allows them wider berth in how the story is told.
There’s a reason second books fall into what’s called the “sophomore slump,” or “sophomore syndrome.” It’s hard to live up to the hype generated by a first book, and sustain the interest to the finale. The truth is, there is no one formula for writing the second of a series. When a concept is created to develop across installments, the power of its story has to be strong enough to carry through.

Best Book Sequels
A lot of authors are daunted by writing a sequel. I was dubious about writing a series to start with, because it takes a lot of stamina to sustain momentum across several installments of a greater plot. I knew going into Alpha, the second book of The Scattered Dark Series, the challenges that would be ahead, and… I wrote it anyway! Yet, there are notable sequels in series—some of which are even better than the first installment.
Here’s a list of some of my favorite sequels:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
The Bewitchments of Love and Hate by Storm Constantine
Spiritwalk by Charles de Lint
Beauty’s Release by A. N. Roquelaure
The Marvelous Land of Oz by L. Frank Baum
Prime by Poppy Z. Brite
Death, the High Cost of Living by Neil Gaiman
The Voyage of the Dawn Trader by C. S. Lewis
The Tale of the Boy Thief by Anne Rice
What are some of your favorite sequels?

Pagan Erotica Author, Erzabet Bishop, Does Her Characters
Check out our recent exchange, as well as her three titles coming out this month: EPS Yuletide Temptation from NNP, A Christmas to Remember from Ladylit and Holidays in Hell from Storm Moon Press.
Who has been the biggest influence on your writing? How so?
One of the biggest influences in my writing has to be Anne Rice. I grew up clutching her vampire novels and dreaming of one day writing one of my own.
If you were to have sex with one of your characters, which would you choose, and why?
Oh, a naughty, naughty question! When I write, I think about what it would be like with each and every one. There, now you’ve made me spill a secret. Shhhh…
Pitch yourself to new readers in thirty words or less:
Take a walk on the wild side with naughty crochet, masquerade balls, witchy shorts, ghosts, werewolves and a derby girl story that will make you moist in the knickers.
Tell me about your groupies–what have been your favorite fan moments?
I had a woman tell my publisher that after reading my short story “Hooked” in Anything She Wants, she was considering turning gay. That has to be one of the nicest things anyone has ever said.
Today I got a wonderfully glowing article in Witches & Pagans online magazine about my Erotic Pagan Series. It made my heart happy to hear that she loved the series and wanted to see it continue.
Every author has pitfalls in their writing process. Describe one of yours, and what you do to dig out of it.
I start out mapping things on a legal pad, then tear in on the computer and keep molding and sculpting until it is done. It is not a one-shot sit-down process. It takes time. I often find myself reading aloud to make sure the flow is right. After two rounds on the Liz McMullen radio show, I have learned that you want the stories to sound natural or you are in trouble! Your words will hitch and then you face plant. Get it right first…J
My mother always joked about her special place in Hell—just punishments for guilty pleasures. What guilty pleasures will send you to your special place in Hell?
My penchant for chocolate, Walking Dead, fuzzy socks and smut novels. Oh, and using my exercise bike as a clothes rack. Bad…naughty…break out the switch. (please)

Friday Flashfic – Lesson Learned
100 words to tell a story based on an image…
Today’s inspiring photo is from Will Blog for Sex, courtesy of stockvault.com.
When we met you told me to kneel,
and I thought nothing of it.
A new game, play bottom.
There’s a first time for everything.
When you slapped my hands from your hips
and commanded I come
without my touch or yours,
the game stopped.
My heart sank.
I worried, fretted I’d let you down,
despaired you’d find a younger Daddy.
My insecurity undermined us both,
until
you squatted, fingered your clit,
squirted down my length.
My load shot harder and faster than I thought possible.
Lesson learned, baby girl.
To trust a new Daddy,
he must worship you.

About Chains
Three Fates. Three Sisters.
When a will from her dead father decrees Chloe into the protection of the renowned vampire commander, Tyrian en Kulev, she does what any woman would do—and casts a spell. Things get worse for Chloe when the spell she and her sisters perform summons an ancient demon from deep within the earth. Now she’s being hunted by a demon set on killing her and must live at the aptly named Castle Death with the king of cold, Tyrian. Surprisingly, Chloe finds that she doesn’t mind her new Protector so much. His cold, impassionate nature needs a firm push to show his true colors, and Chloe thinks she’s just the one to do it.
Tyrian en Kulev always pays his debts. When Francis Bellum dies and orders Tyrian to act as his eldest daughter’s Protector, Tyrian resigns himself to the position. What should have been a simple deal–keep her in the castle, protect her–has turned difficult. Chloe comes to him with a demon trying to kill her and a sexy attitude that keeps invading his thoughts everywhere he goes. The little succubus easily grabs hold of the heart he’d kept locked away for so long and makes him feel once again. But can they defeat the demon that haunts her and can Tyrian overcome his past and move on to a new future with Chloe?

Hot Interview–Kenya Carlton Gets Nasty
Kenya Carlton stopped by to discuss her new release, Devil’s Play, and share a little about herself.
Who has been the biggest influence on your writing? How so?
Inadvertently, my aunt, but mainly my parents. My dad has a new book every week.
If you were going to slash two (or more) of your favorite characters from any book, film, or TV show, who would it be, why, and what’s their favorite position?
I’m not sure what slash is, but I’m assuming it means screw …Hmmm, right off the top of my head I would pick The Guardian Idris Elba and Lokie, Tom Hiddleston from Thor. Can you tell that was the last movie I saw? (:-I can’t imagine what either one of those mystical creatures favorite position would be, hopefully someone will ask them.
