Breastmilk stem cells.

Here’s more reason to breastfeed, but there’s also a big reason to not store your baby’s cord blood. The baby NEEDS that blood. This is also why the cord should not be cut to early. These are just more “common” medical practices that save doctors a few minutes of time per patient.

Unrelated Topics: Mysterious Pages and Genre-Hopping

Oh, my stars, I have been having the WORST time with a Word file. It’s driving me nuts.

I try to be really picky about my books. I want them to look as professional as possible, in everything from font to design. Truly? I don’t know the first thing about book design. But I know what a book looks like when I hold it in my hands, and that’s what I want MY books to look like.

I’ve published two books in hardcover and so far, both of them look pretty darn good. ButMoon Over Donamorgh…what the hell...

I Know I Left That To-Do List Somewhere Around Here…

The week just past kept me hopping with obligations of all kinds – social, financial, business…. In addition, violent wind and rain have caused me to lose a couple of hours of sleep the last few nights. I’m not complaining about that really, because I LOVE storms. We don’t get enough of them with our mild Bay Area climate.

Nevertheless, I am tired.

This coming week will not, or at least, should not, be as busy. I finished my read-through of Moon Over Donamorgh in printed format, made the changes...

Food Politics » Do artificial sweeteners make rats fat?

I don’t use artificial sweeteners because they are… well, artificial. As much as possible, I try to eat Real Food. But this study shows another possible reason why it’s good to avoid them.

Moon Over Donamorgh. Another Book From Me For You!

I couldn’t go to water aerobics yesterday at my usual time, so I went to the class at 7:00 pm last night. It was so cool to be jumping around in the water underneath the bright, full moon. I watched the moon as much as possible while doing my half-jacks and crunches.

That moon of ours is simply amazing. I never get tired of seeing it.

I have a character who feels that way, too. Let me tell you a little about him.

Seamus Firnan is one of those characters who is bigger than life. From the moment I...

REAL FOOD 101: How to Make Butter | OUR NOURISHING ROOTS

Yes. REAL butter is much better for you than margarine. Even those horrid “heart-healthy” things they sell.

Post-Thanksgiving Analysis

Hoo boy, did I overdo it.

No, no, I didn’t drink too much on Thanksgiving. I didn’t even eat too much. I just stood on my feet too much. It’s a shame, because that darnperipheralneuropathy had settled into a dull roar that I could easily ignore. But a couple of days of standing on my feet and cooking took care of that. It’s taken until today for my feet to stop shouting at me. Now they are just whimpering quietly in the corner.

I really don’t see a way to avoid that kind of thing. I don’t want t...

In Which the Author Takes a Play Day

The grandchildren have arrived and today is a zoo day. It’s always a good way to let the tykes run off energy without exhausting the grandparents. I’m not crazy about zoos – it bothers me to see animals in cages, even if those cages are the modern “natural habitats.” But I do like the idea of walking outside for several hours. I’ll get my supply of vitamin D and be a happier person.

However, being San Francisco, there is no guarantee of sun. It’s very bright here right now. I keep having to sh...
