Kindle MatchBook

Well what do you know – Amazon has done something I can truly agree with! Assuming of course, that I have an accurate understanding of what they are doing.

Their new program is called Kindle MatchBook. Simply put, if you (the reader) buy a print book from Amazon (hardcover, paperback, whatever), then you can also download the Kindle version of the book for a reduced price. Perhaps even for free.

Here’s the fine print:

You have to buy the book from Amazon. That makes sense, right?

The author or pu...

Marlene Dotterer … Women Writers over 50 | Fifty Odd

Hey, look what’s online over at Women Writers over 50! I forgot all about this interview. It’s kind of fun when they pop up like this.

The only change would be that now, of course, Worlds Apart is published and available.

Labor Day

High fives for unions, and kudos for all those women who have real “labor” days on this holiday!

I made it over to Walnut Creek for a small gathering of like-minded folks who want women to have real choices when it comes to their health, their pregnancies, and how they birth their babies.

My sign shows all the artistic endeavor you can expect from me. It’s heartfelt all the same!

What are you up to on your labor day?

The Food Issue. Or, the Issue of Food

Scientific American devoted their latest issue to the topic of food. Naturally, I read it cover to cover. Some of it was simply interesting, such as the article on how taste works or how calorie counting will never be an exact science. Yes, those official-looking numbers on the back of your Cheerios box are just estimates. Always will be.

The bits that really got my attention had to do with our current food system. Now, Scientific American is not a science journal, but the articles are about r...

The Fun Never Stops

What a vacation I just had! So much energy used! I barely had time to check email and send the occasional picture to Facebook. I spent most of my time doing this:

Yeah, I can see you don’t think I used that much energy. Little Hannah only weighs about 8 pounds, after all. Well, I also did some of this:

and of course,this:

We also met with old friends and colleagues: Amy Raby for drinks at Wild Ginger; a day of touring northernmost Washington along with a lovely picnic lunch with Rick’s “once re...

Our hotel in Eugene is across from an awesome park by the Willamette River. We walked to dinner, then spent an hour wandering along paths and bridges. Truly Fine!

Induced Labor Linked to Raised Risk of Autism, Study Suggests – WebMD

Induced Labor Linked to Raised Risk of Autism, Study Suggests – WebMD.

The researchers and others quoted in this article are falling all over themselves to remind us that sometimes induction or augmentation of labor is necessary, “even if there’s an increased risk of autism.”

Of course, they aren’t the ones raising the autistic child.

But that’s a snarky comment, and I take it back. Sort of.

What mothers and fathers need to understand, is that MOST pregnanciesdo notneed labor to be induced or aug...

Reviews: Worlds Apart

Love this Goodreads review on Worlds Apart!

“This book was a great read and so different from the normal type of relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, as I hope others will. Marlene Dotterer two thumbs up on this great book.”

And this great review is more comprehensive. Here’s a snippet:

“I’m so glad I took a chance on this new novel as I really enjoyed it. It’s full of suspense, intrigue, paranormal, action, and romance. It’s a well-developed story that’s written well that includes an in...
