The B Team: A New Way of Doing Business

The link below leads to an interesting article by Arianna Huffington. She belongs to a group called the B Team, whose goal is to create a new business paradigm, one that focuses on people and environment along with profit. I’m all for this sort of thing, but no matter how influential the 14 founding members are, I’ll adopt a “wait-and-see” attitude. I’m pretty cynical about this sort of thing succeeding.

Go ahead and read the article, but there’s one aspect of this I want to talk about.

A Goal Attained

Happy birthday and Congratulations to another wonderful grandchild! Cahlil is 17 today, and finishing high school a year early, thanks to the marvelous Wayne Geri Academy. He was one of two high school graduates. It’s a very tiny school. Best of luck, my dear!

The State of Things as They Stand: A Debriefing

1. Weight loss. Going well, thank you. I know that fasting two days a week sounds extreme. But the missing calories only amount to 1500 – 2000 calories a week. That’s about enough to lose half a pound. Even that is not a steady loss, though. I find I drop a pound, then waver for a week or so at a pound or two above the lowest weight. Then it goes back down to the lowest point and proceeds to drop again. Rinse and repeat. It might be more consistent than it looks, but our scale is ancient and...

Solstice Menu

A friend of mine had the coolest idea for summer solstice. I want to share it with you and expand on it. Strictly for fun.

Lani Longshore is a master of whimsey, whether it’s quilting, writing, or theater. The ideas just seem to flow from her. So for solstice, she suggested creating a menu based on properties of the nine… er, eight planets. Well, it wasn’t my idea, but I’m going to steal it. Jump in with your own suggestions!

Mercury: Let’s see… iron core. In fact, the largest iron core relativ...

I Want Children, I Just Don’t Want Yours, and Other Conundrums

There’s an interesting post by Kat Lombard over at Once a Month, called I Hate that I Love Babies.

Boy, can I relate.

It’s another article, in a long line of articles marching through the years, about whether, or how, women can have it “all.” Otherwise known as the question that has no answer.

I’ll get back to that idea. For now, I want to talk about that irritating conundrum for women: we aren’t all alike. Okay, you knew that, and you’re okay with it. Everybody’s unique, right? No one expects a...

Rites of Passage… Celebrating Real Women’s Wisdom | Talk Birth

I love the ideas in this article. I agree with the author, that it is important for women to celebrate our bodies and who we are in all our aspects of womanhood.

The suggestions for the baby shower are wonderful. So often, baby showers are turning into lavish parties with huge and expensive gifts that clutter the mother’s home with stuff she or baby don’t need. Instead of that, consider a time of comfort, celebration, and laughter for the mother-to-be. When we celebrate our bodies and the thin...

This is a very important and useful resource for parents and parents-to-be. I will always insist that breastfeeding on demand is the absolute best way to feed a human baby, but if you ever have to give your child formula, this is information you need. Please bookmark this page!
