Good Morning, America, I Love You

America is having a moment. Please excuse our dust while we hem and haw and dance around our system of checks and balances.It can get messy, we know. But eventually, things start falling into place and everybody calms down. The laws that are passed go into effect, and everybody adjusts accordingly and goes on about their daily lives.

Blue Skies and Sad Hearts

Today has arrived on a cloud of sorrow, although I know of no reason why it would. I’m trying to work through it with typical Saturday chores and cooking projects – laundry, chicken broth, yogurt… and an uncertain plan for dinner which may be nothing more than a late lunch. We want to take a long walk, and will need to leave about 4 or so. But I’m not going to eat afterwards at 7 or 7:30. So if we have “dinner” around 2 or 3, then walk, we can just have a light snack when we get home. Plus I...

Life’s recent observations:


1. It rained today. The sun is out now, but we gotrealrain. Not that those poor folks in Colorado will be impressed.


2. Speaking of folks in Colorado, we still haven’t heard from or about friend Arthur.


3. I’m cooking the first pumpkin of the season right now. Pumpkin pancakes are back on the menu!

Trips That Exhaust You

Those tend to be the best trips, and I’m happy to report that I just had a three day vacation that resulted in many naps. In fact, I think I’ve just started to recover.


We went up to the town of Mendocino, which is farther north than I’ve ever been on the California coast. Mendocino County has two of the best things on the planet: redwood forests and ocean. Let this picture show you – it’s the view from the balcony of our rented house:
