Kids and Kitchens

Today was busy and fun, with a bonus visit from our two San Diego grandkids. Never turn down a chance to babysit, especially when the parents fly 400 miles to drop the kids off.

Okay, maybe they hadotherreasons to fly up here, but that’s beside the point. The grandkids, Grandpa, and I did much playing with Legos, Lincoln Logs, and balls of various sizes. The cuties are on their way back home now. Hopefully, we’ll see them again this summer.

It’s a pressure canner (I know you were wondering). I’ve done a bit of boiling water canning, mostly making pickles or chutney or jam. Most people make lots of jam, but we don’t really eat it around here. I like my sugar in pies or donuts…, not on my toast. Anyway, I’ve always wanted to try canning soup, meats, and veggies, but they have to be done under pressure to kill bacteria in low acid foods. It’s taken me about twenty years to get around to actuallybuyingthe canner. But now that it...

A Wrinkle inTime

My gateway drug into science fiction was this book: Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time. I was 7 or 8 years old when I picked it up in the school library, and I was hooked forever. It had words liketesseractandmitochondria, and maybe evenphysics. It was my first experience traveling to another planet and my first introduction to the speed of light.

A Wrinkle in Time is probably why I’ve never been satisfied that Einstein, brilliant though he was, is the last word in faster than light travel....

Our Dust is Showing

I admit it – I’m playing around with the website, so you may be seeing a lot of strange stuff. It’s a procrastination technique many writers employ. I did write a scene today. Honest.

Warning: Politics Ahead

I don’t talk a lot about political things here, but I won’t shy away from it, either. This blog is about life and how we live it, or at least, how I live it. Politics is part of life. Sometimes I just gotta say my piece.

This post has two topics, which kind of prove that I’m all Gemini – full of dichotomies. I just can’t fit into one box. Some of my beliefs may seem contradictory, although of course they make perfect sense to me.

Topic the First: EBT Recipients Stole Food…
