Birthdays Today, March 1: Jensen Ackles, Justin Bieber, Kesha, Ava Allan

Well, I know this is my personal choice but… our Top#1 Famous Birthdays Today is for the actor Jensen Ackles, who appeared on many television shows like Supernatural, Smallville and Dark Angel. From Yareah, we wish him and his family all the best in this special day. Congrats and happy birthday, Jensen Ackles!

I was in preschool and a girl actually kissed me on the cheek. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what it meant, so I instantly grabbed her face and kissed her on the lips. And, then I got suspended.

Some people will go to the opening of an envelope. They live their lives in the public eye and get off on it, they need it. They need that kind of adoration. If their name isn’t in the tabloids once a week they feel like a failure.

More famous birthdays today, March 1: Justin Bieber -well, he’s very famous, no presentation-, born in London, Canada in 1994; Kesha, pop singer born in Los Angeles; and Ava Allan, television actress born in Los Angeles in 2000.

Happy birthday to all of them. Have a very nice day, dear friends.

Brie Larson true personality. She is authentic, supportive and creative

Brie Larson rocks! The 88th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), took place on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Brie Larson was awarded as Best Actress for her role in ‘Room.’ Congratulations!

Brie Larson in 'Room'

Brie Larson in ‘Room’

What do you know about this actress and singer? She is sincere, creative, authentic and supportive. Our quotes of the day are by Brie Larson. Listen to her!

Sincere: “It’s really hard to see yourself and to recognize that you are a human being like everybody else. You just think everybody’s judging you.”

Room is a 2015 Canadian-British-Irish drama film directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on her novel of the same name.

The plot focus on a woman (Larson), captive for seven years in an enclosed space with her 5-year-old son (Tremblay). Finally, they gain their freedom, allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time.

Creative: “Singing is an incredible expression and something that is important to me, but where I feel comfortable with how much I reveal about myself is acting. I enjoy the characters, the costumes, the wigs and just being a chameleon.”

Room premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2015 and had a limited release in the United States on October 16, 2015. It was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director for Abrahamson, Best Actress for Larson, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Donoghue.

Authentic: “Maybe you’re not perfect, but you’re willing to actually look at yourself and take some kind of accountability. That’s a change. It might not mean that you can turn everything around, but I think there’s something incredibly hopeful about that.”

Brie Larson won several awards, including the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Critic’s Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Supportive: “I’m learning with the older that I get that some feelings are just universal and that I’m not the only one who hates their hair or their life at times.”

And above all, she is a great actress: “I know that I’m an actor and I guess I could kind of put on an act, but it takes so much more time to be someone you are not. I feel so much better just being comfortable with myself and hopefully girls will accept that.”

Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!

Boston Cyberarts. New Exhibition about Art and Science in the Contemporary World

Boston Cyberarts. Membrane: Biology and Art is an exhibition considering the relationship between art and science in the contemporary world. Comprised of nanoscopic neurons, slime mold ceramics, and natural installations, this exhibition explores the reciprocal nature of biology and art. Including concepts that marry scientific research with artistic inquiry, Membrane investigates human curiosity and man’s modern relationship to the natural world.

Natalie Andrew’s slime mold specimens ingest various materials including cobalt, copper, and other elements, leaving finely drawn marks resembling the minuscule lines of miniature painters. Nathalie captures their journey in a kiln-fixed glaze, producing a stunning array of pottery. Joe Davis’ Neimand weiss das ich Rumpelstilchskin heiss!, involves genetically engineering silk worms to spin metallic gold – an homage to the fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin. And his ‘self-assembling’ clock features components of a disassembled clock enclosed in a jar. Like life, which spontaneously ‘self-assembled’, the experiment tests whether these simple parts could ‘self-assemble’ into a functioning clock. David Kim’s Unsent Unburdened Subconscious Subterranean consists of a compost pile cradled at chest height. The compost is primarily created by feeding an earthworm colony drafts of unsent letters the artist has written to his estranged mother. Through a buried hydrophone microphone, viewers can listen to the earthworm colony, which sounds much like a sonogram.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS.

Natalie Andrew is a biologist, cognitive-scientist and master rhinestoner researching creativity, paradigm shifts, and the ingredients of wonder. Formerly a scientist at Harvard Medical School, Natalie has published in Nature Cell Biology (where her illustrations made the cover) and other journals. She has a Doctorate in Biology, a Masters in Cognitive Science, and a Bachelors in Physics with Electronics, all from Birmingham University, England. Natalie currently lives in Cambridge, MA and works in Artisan’s Asylum Somerville, MA as a full time, self-supporting artist/scientist.

Joe Davis spent most of his early life in the Deep South. While earning his Creative Arts degree (1973) from Mt Angel College in Oregon, he pioneered sculptural methods in laser carving at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, University of Cincinnati Medical Center Laser Laboratory and other renowned laboratories. In 1976, Davis signed the first launch services agreement with NASA to fly a payload for the arts on Space Shuttle and in 1980, was the first non-scientist to address Goddard Spaceflight Center’s Engineering Colloquium. He joined MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies in 1981 as a Research Fellow and was appointed Lecturer in Architecture shortly thereafter. In 1986, Davis created the first genetically-engineered work of art and organized the most powerful and lengthily radar signals for extraterrestrial intelligence ever transmitted. In 1989 he created large permanent sculpture, fountain and pedestrian lighting for Kendall Sq. in Cambridge, MA. In the same year Davis joined the laboratory of Alexander Rich at MIT where he is widely regarded to have founded new fields in art and biology. He attached fishing rods and minuscule fish hooks to his microscopes and developed other whimsical instruments that could resolve audio signatures from microorganisms. His “DNA programming languages” for inserting poetic texts and graphics into living organisms are cited in scientific literature. In 2009 Davis transmitted the gene for the most abundant protein on Earth from Arecibo Radar in Puerto Rico to three sun-like stars. In 2010, he joined the laboratory of George Church at Harvard where he is designated “Artist Scientist” In 2011 Davis initiated a project that would eventually make it possible to turn silk into gold. In 2012 he organized an international consortium to sequence the genome of the ancestor of all domestic apples and later, to contain a version of Wikipedia in that same genome.

David Kim studied Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California San Diego before getting a gradute degree at the Digital+Media department at the Rhode Island School of Design. He is presently Adjunct Faculty at RISD.

Jessica Polka is currently a postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.

Being incarcerated is truly very serious, and it has changed my life to such an extent that breaking the cycle has become my sole focus. Jail is definitely not cool. Education is.

Ja Rule

I believe in God and not religion, because I believe religion is the double cross. Because I’ve been double crossed by three religions, so I think I can safely say that religion – there is maybe something wrong with religion. Every temple that’s put up may not be a holy one, so watch out.

Ja Rule

More famous birthdays today, February 29: Mark Foster, rock singer born in 1984; Tony Robbins, motivational speaker and author born in Los Angeles in 1960; and Antonio Sabato Jr., soap opera actor.

Auctions. Special Artist’s Studio Sale of the works of James Arnold Martin

Chiswick Auctions is proud to announce a Special Artist’s Studio Sale of the works of James Arnold Martin 1931 – 2015, taking place on Wednesday 9th March.

Auctions. Special Artist’s Studio Sale of the works of James Arnold Martin

Auctions. Special Artist’s Studio Sale of the works of James Arnold Martin

We have been fortunate to have assisted with several distinctive artist studio sales over the last 20 years. By their very nature an artist’s studio sale is a unique and special event, and a moment to understand the innermost life and work of an artist. Some of the most innovative art pottery and paintings of the 20th Century came out of the studios of independent artists. They created unique, one of a kind pieces for nothing more than their own pleasure and enjoyment.

This collection includes pottery items alongside sketches, watercolours, paintings and sculptures by James Arnold Martin, and presents us with a most extraordinary previously unseen body of work. His artistic output was various and prodigious and includes many wonderful works including topographic and architectural subjects.

Had he chosen a career as an exhibiting artist, there can be little doubt that James Arnold Martin would have been hailed as one of post war British Arts most singular voices. The originality of his ceramic work and the breadth of his painting is at once striking, original and fresh.

Martin was born on 10th October 1931 in Southsea. A prolific artist, teacher, skilled painter, theatre designer, ceramicist and potter, as well as serving as a British spy and active supporter of the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Martin was considered by many to be a modern Renaissance Man. A long standing resident of Balham, he had a beautifully styled home in the area and whilst he welcomed those who loved to see his pictures, he chose not to sell any of his work.

All of the paintings, ceramics, drawings and ephemera being offered are from the Balham home and studio of James Arnold Martin, and at his request are being sold to benefit the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK (British Diabetic Association) and without reserve.

It is our hope that this sale will firmly establish long overdue recognition of his work.

Sunday Poetry with Jenean C Gilstrap. Today: walk of the blind

Sunday Poetry with Jenean C Gilstrap. Today: walk of the blind

Sunday Poetry with Jenean C Gilstrap. Today: walk of the blind

walk of the blind

and the deserts rambled

their sad song

taking me back

to when i done wrong

and the rivers rose up

and the skies tumbled down

leavin’ me stuck

in this lonesome ole town

and the mountains

spewed forth fire and stone

strippin’ my soul

to its sun bleached bones

and now i walk

the walk of the dead

steppin’ on nails

wherever i tread

talkin’ the talk

of lost memories

blinded by the truth

of all that i see

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they’re going to have some pretty annoying virtues.
