Nanowrimo Day 14:

Yesterday was another whiff, but I think I needed it, because I woke up this morning without an aching neck for once.  Yay!

As soon as we've moved into our new place, I'm setting the computer up at a real writing desk, not just this thrown-together Frankenstein's monster we've put together in the dungeon as-is.  I know, I know, it was my idea, but not all my "let's make do" plans lead to glory.

Anyway, so far so good, today.  There's nothing wrong with a little "Oh, no, I'm behind bigtime in Nano" guilt to get one moving.

Notable Nanos:

"What exactly was your plan, anyway?  You'd just waltz into..wherever we are…and we'd walk out together hand-in-hand?"  His face turned bright red.  That was exactly what he'd thought.  What an idiot.
His beefy hands held the boy by the back of his shirt.  Looping a finger down beneath the yoke of his tee shirt, he pulled out a tiny silver chain.  "Slave," Harlow said.
"Time flies when you're sold into slavery for an evil Troll overlord," I said.
A few moments later, we were pushing aside our food to make way for Dave's leg of goat.  Still hooved and with the pelt intact, Dave picked up the bloody limb and tore off a huge bite with his tusks.  "Not baaaaaaaad," he said.

"Two Croaks, please."

"Want me to open them for you?" she asked.

"Sure," Harlow said.

She opened the bottles and the usual tiny fog of carbonation rolled out, followed by loud croaking sound, like a bullfrog.

Dolly laughed. "Never gets old. Enjoy, kids."

In other good news, I learned today that bobcats are back in Indiana.  For a moment or two, I thought a mountain lion had showed up at Patoka Lake to interfere with Harlow's flashback story, but as it turns out, it was a bobcat, just like this one spotted at Camp Atterbury:

Hey! Author RJ Palmer interviewed me. She got me talking about roller derby, my tragic past, Internet hijinks, and that time you saw The Pixies without me (damn it)!

Go have a look.

Book Bloggers Wanted

I am sure I posted this elsewhere, but I can't find it now, so I'll just post it again.  Why not?

I'm looking for a few good book bloggers.  I'm giving away some copies of This Brilliant Darkness via a Goodreads Giveaway, and I'm looking for some folks who would be inclined to share that on their blog.

Also, I'd be willing to send you a copy for yourself, as well as a copy I'd give away to the winner of a giveaway you host on your own blog.

Does that sound sweet?  Is that cool?  Are you intrigued, interested, gung ho, etc.?

Well, leave a comment here, or email, tweet, FB me, etc.  Let me know where to look so I can have a gander at your blog.  I need to make sure you're Too Legit to Quit, you know?

I'm pretty hardcore non-stop Kung Fu Zen about getting my friends' names out there in front of others, so it could be a great way for you to meet others who would love to follow your blog.  Think about it and let me know, okay?

So far I've got one gal lined up, but I'd like to have at least two more.

And now, because you need to enjoy it again, Godson, receive the gift of the 11 minute 2 Legit video from TAFKA MC Hammer.

8 Favorite Moments From 18 Favorite Films: V for Vendetta, 2006

A building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols are given power by people. A symbol, in and of itself is powerless. But with enough people behind it, blowing up a building can change the world.

The proof arrived for This Brilliant Darkness. We were quite excited, as it was hand-delivered by ninjas.

I defeated this one, eventually, but not until after he had convinced me to reconsider the line spacing in the book.

Farging ninjas!

Hey.  I was just checking Amazon's Top Rated Dark Fantasy books, and This Brilliant Darkness has risen to #22.  I don't check this chart very often, so it could have been higher, I dunno.

If you've read the book and you liked it, would you mind sharing your rating on Amazon?  I'd love to see it make the front page of the Top-Rated chart.  :)

Clicking on the curious owl will take you there.

Thank you!

The orbs remind me of little Tinkerbell fairies.  Those are coming up in a chapter or two.  I remember that.

Nanowrimo Day 12:

Executive decision: The Character Formerly Known as Christie Shall Now Be Referred to as Gennifer.  Find & Replace yielded 85 results.

Yesterday I started the day off with breakfast with friends, and ended up not Nanoing at all.  I also never made it onto my computer, but worked from a variety of devices upstairs on other projects.  I wasn't as successful as I'd have liked, but I did get to redraw my Snowflake and update my original character notes, so I'm more clear on where the story is going.

Then, today, I got up early despite it being Saturday, and Tim and I got the baby snuggled up in blankies, and proceeded to try and wake ourselves up enough to write cogently.

Before we could even wipe all the sleep from our eyes, my 8 y.o., full of mirth and joy, bounded down the steps and screamed "Good morning!" waking up the baby and pretty much derailing Tim's Nanoing for the past hour.

I know it's selfish of me, and very single-minded, but I will keep writing no matter what the distraction, unless it's blood or fire.  Tim handled the diapers and the kids while I got through about 850 words.

It's not much, but I wrote it.  And now I need to make nice with everyone I've been ignoring, and encourage him to stop fiddling around online looking for our iPhones in transit, and to WRITE.
