Exploring Bologna: Stolen Cadavers and Modern Medicine

Entrance with coat of arms

The Anatomical Theater is located on the second floor in the Archiginnasio. The walls along the stairs are lined with crests of some of the students who have studied there.

Solid advice from Andrew Zimmern, chef and food writer. Sure, see the sights and the monuments, but also get off the beaten track. Hang out where the locals go, meet people, try their food and drink. Don’t look to be comforted by what is the same as at home – get a real taste for what...

Watching a symphony can bemore enjoyableif you have a littlemusical training. Knowing that the bows of the violins are not all up at the same time just because it looks good- knowing that the bowing structure directly relates to the notes on the page and that someone chose the best of many alternative bowings for that piece – makes the performance a greater pleasure.

Solo Travel S U R V I V A L

Know where you're going.

Know where you’re going.

Really?

A survival guide for solo travel?

I know, it’s a bit over the top but writing abouthow to travel alone is important now and then. I had a look at theUS Army Survival Manual for a framework – but it is way too elaborate. So...

Life, Death, Divorce and Solo Travel

Signing the visitor book at Nelson Mandela's

Signing the visitor book at Nelson Mandela’s

I’m pleased to introduce my friend and semi-solo traveler, Elizabeth. I say semi-solo because on her trip to South Africa last year she traveled solo through London then landed in the lap of friends in Cape Town. But, true to her adventurous spirit, she traveled solo again as she took on challenges that didn’t interest her hosts. Elizabeth’s adventurous side and huge enthusiasm for life is well worth sharing. You can read her travel story below. On...
