Traveling solo as a boomer is a wonderful experience.
It’s age-defying.
Be just a little intrepidand the world willtilt on its access to deliverexperiences you would never get traveling with someone else – never mind staying at home.

Mural behind the the Princess of Wales Theatre – only seen in the back alley.
Was it my age?
No doubt.
But given thespoof on Drake in the Q&A after the film I’d say it also has to do with being Canadian.
Probably “white ‘n nerdy” andCanadian.
Each September I go to TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival. Choosing what to see fromover 300 films isn’t easy. But Ihave two guiding objectives whendoing so:

Manage Money. Avoid Fees. Keep Cards and Cash Safe.
In Jordan my go-to debit card didn’t work. Thankfully I also hada card from a secondbank.
I have ahierarchy of safety for solo travel.
Your person
Your documents
Your money
Your stuff
In that order. That’s what’s important.
And even though money ranks number three in the list, it is still a big, BIG priority.
Managing your money, cash, credit and debit cards while on the road alone is a challenge that must be met with tactics that work for you. So, I’m going to give you lots of options here, starting...

Azaleation: The Just Misses of Travel
A lenticular cloud in Torres del Paine, Chile.
I had no word for it until now.
Thefeeling, a mourning, a lament for having missed the best of a place.
Or at least the frustration of being told that I’ve missed the best, feigning that I’m mourning the fact, while I am actually quiteenjoying what is in front of me to experience.
The word for this is “azaleation” as given to us all by poet,Howard Nemerov, and revealed to me by Billy Collinsin an introduction to hispoemThe Sandhill Cranes of Nebraska....
