Dyer verses Dryer
It's not a dyer. It's a dryer. Thank goodness it's Friday.

It's Thursday!
My dyer broke, my air conditioning broke, an earthquake hit, then a hurricane, and I wonder what could possibly be next. It’s been interesting to say the least. Thank goodness my air conditioning is fixed and brand new and I won’t need my supply of band-aids any longer. My dyer on the other hand still hasn’t been fixed. I wash my clothes at home and find myself hanging dry everything else. That’s what they did long before dryers were invented, right?
No, I’m not hanging my clothes in the summer air. I think my home owners association and neighbors might take offensive. But wouldn’t it be nice to have that nearly fall breeze add to the scent of freshly washed clothes. I mean they package dryer sheets in that scent, don’t they? This would be free and dare I say, ‘Organic’ LOL! But then again, with my luck, it would rain all of a sudden. But I think they have rain scent too?
My dyer conundrum remains on my to do list while I decide if it’s worth repairing or if I should replace the thing. It’s not that old. Less than five years in fact. It almost seems wasteful to replace but repairing it is about half the cost of getting a new one. And in this economy, waste not want not. Decisions, decisions.
In the meantime, I’ve been multitasking like a storm trooper under Death Vader; but some things are falling by the wayside. I’m in the process of working with an editor to spruce up my debut novel to make sure edits weren’t missed. It’s interesting looking at your work yet again. My new editor tells me that no matter how many times you look at your writing, you’ll always find something you can improve. I guess it’s true.
Contest updates!!! I’ve gotten some very interesting name choices for the contest. There is still more time to enter for those who haven’t yet. See post below. I can’t wait to get a winner and add the winning names to what I’ve written so far. I’m also going to be doing a give away on the physical copy on the book soon. The release has been pushed back due to re-editing. The try me price for the novel also remains until edits are completed. So enjoy while you can. Labor Day is near. Happy Reading!

CONTEST!!!! Name a character in the next installment of my YA series.
The idea of this contest began a long time ago when I, the fan, wrote an author of a favorite series of mine and foolishly asked to be written in his next book as a very minor character because I of course was his biggest fan. So, I was young and naive, but it never hurts to ask, right? Obviously, he didn’t do it. But it didn’t deter me from his series or cause me to dislike the author in anyway. I realized the error of my ways.
But interestingly enough, LOL!, this same author a few months back sent a blast email to all his fans regarding a new contest (not through Goodreads because I wasn’t aware of this site at the time). That contest was to answer a trivia question about the series and of the correct responses; a randomly chosen winner would have his or her name used as a character in the upcoming book. Yes, I shamelessly entered and just my luck, I didn’t win.
But here is your opportunity. I’ve decided to let a member of Goodread’s choose the name of a character already developed in my next installment of my Cambion series. I’ve found Goodreads to be a great site that brings together a community of avid readers and writers of all genres and one of the best things to happen to the internet in a while. To sweeten the deal, the winner can also if he or she chooses, have their name be one of two minor character who already currently exist namelessly in aforementioned book as well.
Rules
1. There will be five easy trivia questions asked about my current book. Have no fear if you haven’t read the book. All the answers can be found in the Sample edition of the book Kindle provides to anyone free of charge. Kindle samples books can be read on computers, iPods, iPads, and other electronic devices.
2. Submit your answers to me through private message on Goodreads or though the contact me page on my website (www.shannondermott.com).
3. Suggest a name for my character. Without giving anything away, I can tell you the character is male and not human. Please note any vulgar suggestions will be disqualified. This is a young adult series.
4. Give me your first name or nickname you would like either the male or female minor character named after you to be.
5. Provide me with a way to contact you, in case you are selected the winner.
6. One entry per person.
7. Of the correct trivia answers submitted, I will randomly choose one winner.
8. The contest will run until September 10, 2011. Depending on the number of entries, I expect to notify the winner by September 17th.
Trivia
1. Name what type of paranormal being the main character Mercy is?
2. Give me the name of the person Mercy shared her first kiss with?
3. Name the game Mercy found herself playing at the party which started her troubles?
4. Give me the name of the person who asked Mercy to dance at the party mentioned in the previous question.
5. Tell me the piece of advice given to Mercy by a male friend after the football game?
There is no purchase required to participate in the contest. All answers can me found by selecting the sample button under the heading ‘Try it Free’ section on the right side of the Amazon webpage using the link below.
http://www.amazon.com/Beg-Mercy-Cambi...
Additionally, if you have not yet read the book, you can view a fanmade cast list on you tube to see additional character names I’ve already used that don't yet show up in the sample of the book.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H0Rt4...
Prizes for the winner:
1. I will use your suggestion for the character name based on the rules listed above.
2. If you desire, I will use your first name as a name of one of the other two minor characters based on the rules above. If you prefer to use a nickname, let me know what it is and I will make the final decision if the nickname can be used.
3. If you haven’t yet read my book, I will send you one free Kindle edition e-book of Beg for Mercy. If you’ve already read it, I will send you a free Kindle edition e-book version of my new series once released.
This contest is for fun. So have fun. Please note some name suggestions may already exist in this series or the other series I’ve written. But I will do my best to include all entries. Please note, that the winner will not be compensated in any way for the use of the suggested name and/or his or her name or nickname other than the prizes listed above. I reserve the right to make changes to this contest at anytime for any reason although it is not my intentions to do so.
Thanks for you time. Have fun with it. Happy Reading!!!

Earthquate Huh!
Many years from now, those of us in the area will ask "Where were you the day the earthquake came to Washington, DC?" much like they ask about 9/11 and other important events of history.
My response would be, ‘I was standing in the beautiful all glass lobby of a building in Virginia looking up like a deer in headlights not comprehending what was going on.’ I consider myself an intelligent person, but frankly I just didn't have a clue while it was happening what was going on.
Looking up three stories of glass front windows, I watch the glass undulate and rattle with utter fascination. Thank goodness, it didn't shatter or I wouldn't be writing this. Earthquakes aren't a frequent occurrence in my neck of the woods which can explain my lack of action. There was a much smaller one a few months back. That one, it registered from the beginning what it was and it woke me from sleep.
Alas, we all survived so thanks for small mercies. To say the least, I've written nothing today other than this post. Do you think my deadlines will be forgiving?

No Air Conditioning! Say it isn't so.
Yes, my air conditioning choked and died a sudden and violent death yesterday. I didn't what all citizens’ would do without the skills and knowledge on their own. I called my trusty repair guy. You know the one. The one, that warned you every season when he testing the system that this day would come. But alas, I didn't listen. I just knew I could squeeze just a few more seasons before I bit the bullet and replaced it.
No, the day has come. I have no more lifelines and no more bandages to heal old wounds. My pleas of starving writer went unheard and a choice of the good, the bad and the ugly must be made.
So say, that writing in the heat was awful was a gross understatement. Try making a several thousand dollar decision with sweat pouring off you. I still can't make up my mind and I am also not sure any of my writing will make sense when edited. My brain is like on overheat at the moment.
Bare with me. I need to find a new first reader with time to edit my book. But I can't think of a contest or way to do it at the moment. Next time, I say. I will procrastinate on this issue since I cannot on the status of my A/C
Happy Reading! :) Think cool thoughts for me.

Monday Blues!
The weekend is over and it's time to get back to work. I'm struggling with what to work on. I am juggling editing my new series and working on the next book for my Mercy series.
You guys have been real supportive and I'm grateful.
So at long last, I need to stop procrastinating and find my muse. Maybe I need a good song to get me going.
My long time first reader is working on her own great first novel. So I will be looking for a new 'First Reader'. I think now that I've found Goodreads, I'm might do a contest to find one. We will see in the next week or so.

It's Friday
It's Friday and thank goodness for that. It's been a long week with the pre-release of Beg for Mercy in eBook form exclusively at Amazon for the try me price of 99 cents.
Technically difficulties hold the presses. Thanks to you out there a few minor edits were missed or the final edited version wasn't what was uploaded to Amazon. But alas, we all are only human, right?? LOL!
But I won't stress. I am trying to get through final edits of my second series and I am about a third way through the second book in the Mercy series. So I will press on.
Thanks for all your support and for those that have posted reviews. Giveaways will come with the official release of the book in physical format. Prices will change, so get the eBook while you can.
Have a Happy Friday to all out there in cyber land!!!
